Black Friday might be over but you can still grab some last minute video game deals on Cyber Monday.

Three shoppers are injured after a shooting broke out at a mall on Black Friday.

Cops responded to a call of an active aggressor at Park Plaza Mall in Little Rock, Arkansas, at 1.45pm, KARK reported.

Three people were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Little Rock Police Department.

‘Apparently two guys got into it,’ police spokesman Mark Edwards told USA Today, adding it appeared to be an ‘isolated incident’.

No arrests had been made as of 5.30pm.

Mayor Frank Scott Jr stated that ‘gun violence is unacceptable at any time or in any place’.

‘The careless, senseless and criminal actions of two individuals today jeopardized the lives and safety of residents and visitors,’ said Scott.

‘We are praying for the victims of this incident, and are hopeful they make a full recovery.’

The mayor said the community was grateful to mall security staff and workers, law enforcement officers and first responders.

‘We trust those responsible for this will be held fully accountable for their dangerous and reckless decisions,’ Scott said.

Park Plaza Mall officials announced that the establishment would be closed for the rest of the day, which is considered the biggest day for shopping deals.

‘Our hearts go out to the individuals affected in this incident, along with their loved ones,’ stated mall officials.

‘The safety and wellbeing of our guests and the community remains our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation.’

It was not the only shooting to happen on Black Friday in the US.

A police detective in the village of Oak Park adjacent to Chicago was shot while responding to a call of an armed offender leaving a bank around 9.30am on Friday. Detective Allan Reddins, 40, sustained a gunshot wound on his left side and was pronounced dead shortly after at a hospital.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is an American tradition that starts after Thanksgiving and originated as a one-day event, but now spans over the entire weekend – at the end of November.

It usually starts on the last Friday of the month and continues over to Monday, which is also known as Cyber Monday.

It gives shoppers looking for a bargain the perfect chance to purchase presents for loved ones and pop an item in their baskets for themselves – but at a lower price than usual.

What’s the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

To be honest? Not that much, but the super sale starts on the Friday – with deals taking place over the weekend, and finishing online (only) Monday.

Historically the best deals for tech items and your traditional home appliances are best on the Friday, whereas smaller items like fashion, beauty and toys are at, sometimes, the lowest price on Monday. It’s also worth noting that as the name suggests, Cyber Monday is only online – so you won’t be able to shop anything else in stores.

When is Black Friday?

Traditionally the major shopping event takes place on the last weekend of November – and after the American holiday, Thanksgiving.

This year, that falls on November 29 with massive offers and discounts happening over the weekend, and finishing on Cyber Monday, December 2.

As the name suggests, this is an online only event – though some stores may also keep the sales coming until the following week, as we ramp up the Christmas spirit and shopping period.

Black Friday 2024 is officially here, with big discounts across all gaming consoles, including the PS5 Pro.

While Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all announced sales in the run up to Black Friday, it technically only started today on November 29.

There have been a wealth of discounts across consoles and games already, including Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 and EA Sports FC 25, but it can be overwhelming to navigate all the price cuts floating around online at the moment

To help with your search, we’ve collated all the best console deals across the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Some are better than others but there are some decent savings, with up to £80 off a PlayStation 5 slim model.

Despite only being released this month, there’s also a £35 reduction on the PS5 Pro, which is the best option if you’re looking for the most technically advanced PlayStation console on the market. Whether it’s worth the high price tag in itself though is another matter.

Black Friday is here and as such retailers have launched tempting sales and deals to mark the occasion. 

Many people will likely have done their research and are ready and raring to snap up the best bargains – but those who aren’t after anything specific might find themselves spending money they hadn’t planned to, and buying things they didn’t really need.

This could be due to what is known in the online shopping industry as ‘dark patterns’, which are sneaky tactics companies use online to drive sales.

At one point or another, you’ve likely fallen for one of these tricks. But thankfully experts have shed light on some of the most common ones, so you know when a site is trying to ‘manipulate’ you and can protect yourself.

According to The DPO Centre (Data Protection Officers), dark patterns are clever design tricks used on websites and apps to subtly manipulate your choices. 

‘They might make you think a product is about to sell out, or rush you with a countdown timer that creates a false sense of urgency,’ the experts explain.

‘The goal is simple: to get you to buy something, sign up for a service, or give away your personal information without having the proper time to consider what you’re doing.’

Examples of these tricks include text displayed near an item’s price which says something like ‘only two left in stock’. Alternatively it might say ‘hurry, offer ends in two minutes’.

This messaging is often designed to make shoppers believe they have to act fast to avoid missing out, even when there is no rush. 

But it’s not just obvious signs like these that you have to keep an eye out for. 

You might find yourself hit with unexpected charges if you don’t read the full small print for purchases and subscriptions online, as sometimes the total cost can be buried in lengthy terms and conditions, or hidden elsewhere on a website.

And things can get even trickier if you try and cancel a service you no longer want to pay for, with some sites requiring customers to jump through various hoops to end a subscription.

The upside is that in the UK there are strict laws in place to protect consumers from these kinds of tricks. The UK’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA) aims to stop businesses from misleading or pressuring consumers online. 

How to protect yourself when shopping online

If you’re keen to make informed decisions when shopping online and avoid falling for dark patterns, the team at The DPO Centre have shared a few top tips for protecting yourself:

• Read everything carefully before clicking on anything, so you know what you’re agreeing to. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is and it’s more likely to be a ploy to get you to get you to buy quickly.
• Reread instructions before clicking any buttons or options. When we’re in a hurry, the eye is drawn to bright, bold colours and important words like ‘continue’ and ‘cancel’. You might assume that a ‘cancel’ button would cancel your subscription, but the text above it might read something along the lines of ‘If you don’t want to continue with your cancellation, click cancel’ – meaning your subscription continues.
• Check your options: If a website is pushing you towards a particular choice, like signing up for a subscription, take a moment to look for alternatives that might be less obvious.
• Review your settings: Take control of your personal information by reviewing the privacy settings on websites and apps. Look for easy ways to opt out of data sharing.

The experts add: ‘While companies and their website designers have a responsibility to be honest with their customers, dark patterns are surprisingly common in the online world, and they’re not always easy to spot. With a little vigilance and understanding of what to look out for, you stand a better chance of being able to make smarter, more informed choices when shopping online. 

‘Wherever you’re browsing, always look for clear and transparent information about purchases and how a website will be making use of your data, and don’t allow yourself to be rushed into decisions. By staying informed, you can shop online with confidence.’

Holidays are perhaps the biggest spend that we make each year, so with Black Friday upon us, it’s the perfect time to splurge.

But, with so many deals and discounts, it’s hard to work out whether you’re getting a bargain, or not.

Thankfully, research has revealed the major airlines and holiday companies that offered genuine Black Friday savings back in 2023 — indicating that similar price cuts will be available again this year.

Here is what you need to know.

The best holiday and flight Black Friday deals 2024

According to Which? there are four major airlines you should consider: TUI, Jet2, British Airways and Ryanair.

The Which? research from 2023 recorded the prices of 140 holidays and flights from 14 different companies on Black Friday. These prices were then checked again two weeks later in December and again in early January.

Of the TUI holiday deals it tracked, 100% were cheaper on Black Friday, as were nine in 10 of Jet2 holiday deals. 

One of the best holiday savings the consumer group found was a discount of almost £300 on a TUI holiday to Tenerife. The deal for two people departing in August could be snapped up for just £1,768 (£884pp) on Black Friday, but the price had risen to £2,0425 (£1,023pp) to weeks later.

A Jet2 all-inclusive August break for two people to Fuerteventura was just £1,704 (£852 pp) on Black Friday but rose to £1,938 (£969) two weeks later.

When it comes to flights, Black Friday was the best day of the year to book a flight with British Airways, and 70% of Ryanair flights were also significantly cheaper.

A British Airways flight from Heathrow to Oslo in March was just £69 to book on Black Friday, before climbing to £135 in January.

A Ryanair flight for two from Stansted to Zagreb over Valentine’s Day (February 10-17) was £181 (£91 pp) on Black Friday before rising to £324 (£162pp) in January.  

Meanwhile, Which? found just half of EasyJet and Jet2 flights checked were the cheapest on Black Friday, with the other half cheapest in January.

Metro searched the four Which? recommended holiday companies for the best Black Friday 2024 deals so far.

British Airways Black Friday 2024 deals

British Airways Black Friday deals include flights to the UK and Europe for as little as £35 each way, based on a seven-night return journey. The lowest ticket prices are between January and March for £35 each way, while flights cost £40 and £43 each way in April and May respectively. 

BA flights to Nice cost £29 each way over the same period, rising to £44 in April and £43 in May. Holidaymakers can get their hands on £35 flights to Edinburgh for most of 2025 (January to March and June to September), while tickets cost £37 in April and £36 in May. 

The cheapest Black Friday tickets to Dublin meanwhile are between January to March next year for £32 each way.

TUI Black Friday 2024 deals

100% of the package holidays checked by TUI were cheaper on Black Friday, with the travel company offering £300 off holidays by booking with a TUI account. 

Travellers can bag an all-inclusive stay at Holiday Village AQI Turkiye in the Dalaman area in June for £990pp, down from £1,326pp and save an extra £100 by logging into their MyTUI account.

The Coral Sea Aqua Club in Egypt is currently £884pp, from £1,141, for seven nights in June and has an extra £100 off by booking with a Tui account. 

Winter getaways are also on sale. An all-inclusive stay at TUI Blue Sensatori Atlantic Caldera Palace in Crete, for example, is £821pp.

Jet2 Black Friday 2024 deals

Jet2 is offering £100pp off on all holiday packages this Black Friday, as long as you sign up with a free Jet2 account. 

Most of its current summer holiday deals are discounted by £180. Seven nights in Real Palace in Malia, Crete from London Luton in April is currently priced at £290pp, down from £380pp.

Meanwhile, an all-inclusive stay at Gran Canaria Princess in April costs £967pp, down from £2,114pp.

Jet 2’s winter holiday destinations are also discounted. A seven-night all-inclusive stay at Auramar Beach Resort in the Algarve is £384pp, compared to the previous holiday price of £474.

Ryanair Black Friday 2024 deals

Ryanair has launched a ‘buy one get one-half price’ deal over Black Friday and Cyber Week. Discounted flights from London Luton to Krakow include a basic fair of £28.99, while flights discounted to Dublin cost £30.99 from London Luton. 

There are plenty of deals elsewhere in the UK. Discounted flights from Manchester to Cologne, Dublin and Oslo average at £30.99 each way.

Travellers can find tickets to Brussels, Milan and Poznan for £33.99 and fly to Berlin, Bratislava, Copenhagen and Gdansk for £36.99.

Unexpected bargain
It’s been a fairly unexciting Black Friday so far, despite my hopes that I might be able to pick up a Nintendo Switch cheap, but I have found a few bargains. I got Spider-Man 2 for £43.50 from the PlayStation Store and EA Sports FC 25 for £35 at the same time. I’m thinking about getting Star Wars Outlaws too, which seems to be floating around £40 at most stores.

These are pretty good deals but unlike previous years I haven’t seen anything super cheap that tempts me. There’re usually some games for £10 to £20 that I decide to take a gamble one but there’s been nothing like that this year that’s taken my fancy. Suicide Squad is the only 2024 game in that price range and that’s certainly not something I’d pay any amount for.

Interested to hear what other people’s experiences are though and if they can recommend any other deals. I feel like trying something unique, that I wouldn’t usually because of the price, but I’m not seeing anything like at the moment.

Bad timing
All this talk about the Nintendo Switch 2 being unveiled in January might make logical sense but people don’t seem to be taking seriously all this tariff talk from Trump. He said this week it’d be 35% from China, which is a huge increase in the cost of anything made there, including all video game consoles.

I don’t see Nintendo announcing the Switch until they know exactly what’s going on, because how are they going to look if they say that Switch 2 is $300, or whatever, and then a month later they have to increase the price by a third because Trump came into office?

That is a disaster waiting to happen for them and could kill the whole console in the public’s eyes. Nintendo are a cautious company when it comes to business and I don’t see them willing to take any chances with a situation as volatile as this. It wouldn’t shock me if the Switch 2 was delayed into the autumn or even 2026.

Christmas adventure
Kudos where’s deserved. As long as the Indiana Jones game turns out well (and based on your preview that’s looking promising), Microsoft’s actually done a decent job of an end of year line-up.

People seem to like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, and once the capacity issues on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are fixed that seems like it will please people into flying (not me personally).

Call Of Duty isn’t something that generally appeals to me but as I’m likely to resubscribe to Game Pass for Indie, having two campaigns to play through in December is good. Also, something about Indy feels like it fits a Xmas break.

Time is a flat circle
I’m not sure I understand the point of the Zelda timeline. None of the games reference each other (except Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom, which aren’t on the timeline) so what does it matter? Nintendo could make a typo with their list, and nobody would ever be able to prove it didn’t make sense or was obviously wrong.

There’s barely any story in any of these games anyway, so I really don’t think you want to be tied down by continuity as well. As usual, fans focus on completely the wrong things, potentially distracting the creators from doing the stuff that matters. Imagine if Nintendo decided not to do an idea or add a feature because it wouldn’t fit the timeline. None of that matters, only the game.

Alternative dimension
Those Metroid Prime rumours sound pretty convincing, so I look forward to more remasters. I hope they put as much effort into them as they did the excellent first one, as I’d never played any of them before but I loved that and have become a little obsessed with the series now.

I do wonder what the future of 2D Metroids are though. Metroid Dread was a big hit, bigger than Nintendo expected, but we’ve heard nothing about any kind of follow-up. I would like both styles to continue, as they’re both quite different and yet Nintendo don’t seem to make any Metroid game very often.

Hopefully, if Metroid Prime 4 is successful then Nintendo will start to go bigger on the franchise and we’ll get more new games more often.

Lack of dino crisis
I really don’t understand why Capcom is so averse to giving Dino Crisis another go. It took till now to get it properly on modern formats but there’s still no sign of a remaster or remake or sequel.

I know dinomania was strong in the 90s, thanks to Jurassic Park, but the Jurassic World films were all very successful, even if they weren’t very good, and there’s a new trilogy coming up as well. With a female protagonist no less, so now we can pretend it’s an official Dino Crisis film.

If they did a new game, I’m sure it’d be very different to the originals, so whatever problems they have with the original gameplay being outdated is irrelevant. Basically, all it needs to do is have dinosaurs in it, and be a survival horror, and it’s Dino Crisis game, everything else can changed.

Although, how were the dinosaurs there, originally? Was it a time machine or cloning like Jurassic Park? I think it was a time machine and so they were actual dinosaurs and not lab-made ones.

Double threat
I see Mass Effect director Casey Hudson has had to shut down his studio before even getting to announce a game. Apparently they couldn’t get all the funding they need. Yet more proof that the whole business of making games is completely messed up. He should’ve had investors knocking at his door but now what will happen? He’ll give up making games or go back and work at EA or something?

After Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t blow the doors off I wouldn’t be surprised if EA were ready to shut down BioWare entirely, or at least cut them down to a shadow of themselves. What was their last hit? Dragon Age Inquisition almost a decade ago? If I was a bean counter I’d be sharpening the knives and that’s unfortunate.

Let them cook
I really hate to see people cheering on acquisitions. There was plenty of that going on when Xbox was buying Activision Blizzard and what did that lead to, exactly as GC predicted? Hundreds of redundancies. Not to mention Xbox giving up any sense of competing with PlayStation, with their new multiformat policy. In short, it was a disaster.

This company that owns FromSoftware isn’t big enough to cause that kind of trouble but it’s still not going to be good news. As Phil Spencer is now learning (but apparently never predicted) once you spend a lot of money on buying a company your boss and investors expect you to make that money back very quickly.

This will put huge pressure on FromSoftware to make new games as quickly as possible and that is going to have an obvious effect on quality. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hidetaka Miyazaki ended up leaving as soon as his contract allowed, just like all the execs from Activision Blizzard did, and then where will we be?

A developer needs two things: plenty of funding and to be left alone to do their own thing. Sure, the publisher has to make sure they’re actually working on something – they can’t waste years just prototyping or whatever – but it should be a loose leash that’s kept on them as much as possible.

I feel it’s a shame they’re even owned by a larger company, let alone that larger company now being owned by Sony. Maybe the deal won’t go through but if it doesn’t the target is already on their back and someone else will step in after Sony to try and buy them instead.

I find it very hard to imagine that any of Sega’s plans for movies are going to work. They just don’t make any sense, given most of these games didn’t have a story. And not even just the old ones, what’s the plot of Crazy Taxi that’s going to be winning it an Oscar?

I remember a reader questioned recently why other publishers don’t try and copy Animal Crossing, given it’s been such a massive hit. I agree it doesn’t make much sense, no matter whether you care about the game or not, but apparently Ubisoft is rumoured to be making one with the codename Alterra. May be too little too late though.

Black Friday is an increasingly popular time in the UK to snap up some bargains at discounted prices – but shoppers must be careful of scams.

Scammers will take advantage of the influx of shoppers to try and steal personal information such as log-in credentials and other identifying details.

Some big brands have already launched sales ahead of Black Friday itself, with prices slashed on a variety of items.

Amazon is warning customers that scammers could pose as them to try and trick shoppers into handing over precious data.

In an email sent out to customers the online shopping giant said: ‘Scammers posing as various organisations like Amazon may send you calls, texts, and emails with various tactics to try to deceive you to provide personal information or sign-in credentials.

‘Scammers may tell you there is a fraud investigation and you must “verify” your account or claim there is an unauthorised or fraudulent activity on your Amazon account.’

It comes as customers who shop through an app have been warned that their personal data could be being tracked.

A whopping 74% of consumers use retailer apps to browse and shop, and the shopping app industry is growing massively – but this could come at the cost of your privacy, cybernews reports.

After installing an app you’ll be prompted to grant it various permissions, and while some of these are essential for the app to work, others could pose a risk to your private data.

cybernews analysed 71 of the world’s most popular shopping apps on the Google Play Store to find out which required the most potentially dangerous permissions.

These runtime permissions give apps additional access to restricted user data, or let it perform actions which could affect the system and user data.

The analysis found the Tata Neu shopping app demands 19 intrusive permissions to use, followed by Taobao which requests 18, and Lazada with 17.

All three can access the user’s location, camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, and stored files.

Like it or loathe it, Black Friday is almost impossible to avoid. An avalanche of emails and
offers persuading us to shop more has already hit our inboxes and as we approach the day itself, there will be more in store.

According to Nationwide building society, we’ll spend an average of £278 during this discount period, with four-fifths of us planning to buy something during the time.

But is it a good idea to get the credit card out in the hope of bagging a bargain – and how easy is it to fall victim to scams or other pitfalls at this time of year?

‘Consumers need to be savvy when it comes to Black Friday,’ says Fiona Peake, consumer money expert at Ocean Finance. ‘It’s easy to get carried away. We’ve seen many people end up spending more than they bargained for, only to regret their purchases later.

‘It’s important to stick to a budget, do your research and buy only what you really need. Black Friday is just
a Friday, after all.’

This year, Black Friday falls on November 29 but shops started discounting way before this – and the deals often run for much longer. It now largely morphs into Cyber Monday – the biggest date for online shopping, which falls on December 2.

With many sales already started, here’s your guide to making the most of the day, without suffering buyer’s regret.

Is it a real Black Friday discount?

It’s easy to be tempted by Black Friday ‘discounts’, but not everything that is ‘discounted’ is a bargain. Consumer group Which? analysed Black Friday deals from 2021 and found that 98% of everything touted as a deal was cheaper or the same price as at other times of the year.

Price-comparison websites are your friend in finding whether you’ve got a real bargain. Fiona at Ocean Finance suggests PriceSpy or PriceRunner. If you’re looking at Amazon, a site called Camel Camel Camel will tell you if any item is cheaper than it has been at other times.

Fiona says you should always check the small print on deals such as ‘buy one, get one free’ or ‘50 per cent off’.

‘These deals often apply only to specific items, or you may be required to make a minimum purchase to qualify for the discount,’ she says. ‘Be sure you understand the terms before committing.’

Making a list with prices in advance and then checking it against Black Friday ‘bargains’ will help you to keep to your plan.

Get an even better bargain

If you do find items you want to buy during Black Friday, make sure you’re getting an extra uplift on the amount you’re spending.

Clicking through a cashback site such as Quidco or TopCashback can often give you more money towards your purchases.

An app called JamDoughnut, which allows you to download gift cards and spend with those online and instore, can also offer cashback on purchases.

You can combine both methods when shopping online to give you even more money back.

If you’re shopping online, check whether discount codes are available to take more money off 
your purchase. Automatic voucher code plug-ins such as Honey and Coupert can do this for you automatically so you don’t have to check each time.

Using a cashback credit or debit card such as the American Express Platinum Cashback Everyday card could ensure you get more money back on your Black Friday spend. The card is free and you get five per cent cashback on your first five months of spending up to £125 in total.

Black Friday regret is real

One third of us expected to return items we’ve bought, says Nationwide – so before you buy, ensure you know what the return policy is, how long you’ve got to return something and if you’ll get money back or a credit note. Otherwise you’ll end up getting far from a bargain buy.

Alex Stedman, from shopping site Rakuten, says these policies can vary widely. Some companies have shorter windows to return items during deals such as Black Friday and you may have to pay postage.

‘To ensure you can get your money back and aren’t lumbered with unwanted items, read the return policies for every purchase,’ says Alex.

This is particularly important if you’re buying Christmas gifts, as purchasing them this early shortens the time you’ll have to return them after the big day.

Also keep receipts, whether paper or digital, and ask if stores can provide a ‘gift receipt’ with no price on if you’re buying a present.

Don’t lose out to Black Friday scammers

Black Friday isn’t just great for shoppers – it’s a bonanza for fraudsters. The National Cyber Security Centre and Action Fraud says Brits lost more than £11.5million to online criminals between November 2023 and January 2024, with each victim losing an average of £695.

Ian Wilson, insurance and savings expert at comparison site Tiger.co.uk, asks shoppers to be vigilant.

‘Ensure websites are secure by looking for trust seals, reading reviews and checking for a locked URL,’ he says. If you buy with a credit card, the good news is you’ll have extra protection, as the card issuer is responsible for refunding you if things go wrong.

This protection, known as Section 75, works only if the item is worth more than £100, though.

Black Friday gives me early lockdown vibes. Panic-buying, empty shelves, and a general sense of chaos.

Not that I’m above a deal, but it makes me wonder whether bargain hunting is a natural part of our genetic makeup as human beings. I mean, regardless of our social standing, we all morph into voracious scavengers at the faintest sniff of a promotion. Don’t we?

I suppose we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t turn a bit feral at the thought of iPads being flogged for £60, TVs slashed to half price and air fryers ‘with up to 65% off’. And as we all know, having too many air fryers isn’t a thing.

But nowadays, we’re being advised to slow down, read the labels and do the maths, with research showing that between 40 – 60% of people regret their Black Friday buys. As many as 1 in 3 people are set to return their Black Friday or Cyber Monday purchases, which all seemed like such a good idea at the time. In 2023, returns increased by 145%, with a quarter of those blaming ‘impulse purchase’ for their buyer’s remorse. This year, December 10 has taken on the name ‘Returns Tuesday’, when businesses will brace themselves for the aftermath of our dodgy decision-making.  

For those of us who like a snifter, wine tends to be a keeper. You can’t exactly send back the empty bottle and demand a refund, although you’d be surprised. But don’t expect every supermarket to be doing specific wine deals for Black Friday – some just don’t operate like that. Instead, a handful will run generic money-off rollbacks that cover November and December.

Case in point, Tesco is running a blanket 25% off 6 bottles of wine promotion through to December. I was told I’d have to sign an NDA if I wanted specific details about their other upcoming drinks promotions, which are under embargo until the day before they go live. Doesn’t that slightly defeat the object of creating demand? Either way, I politely declined and carried on with my day.

Waitrose has a similar 25% off 6 bottle mechanic for wine, running from the 27^th November – 3^rd December, stopping all other wine promotions during that period. Lidl will be running region-specific deals, also offering 6 bottles of Cimarosa Shiraz for £25 (£4.94 saving) with the same mechanic for their New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (£8.94 saving) in their English stores. Meanwhile, Ocado are running a 30%-off some cracking wines for Black Friday, which you need to click onto immediately.

Morrisons

Champagne Charles Clement Cuvée des Vignerons, France, £14 was £25 (save 44%)

I’m beyond impressed with this bottle and the price is mind-scrambling good. This Champagne is Pinot Noir dominated by 70% to 18% Chardonnay and 12% Pinot Meunier, matured on its yeast lees for 18 months. Flavour-wise, it’s rich yet fresh with Hob Nob notes over white plum, quince and macadamia nuts. I also get a morish marzipan note on the finish. Grab some ASAP.

Comte de Saint Emmanuel AOP Bordeaux, France, £7.50 was £12 (save 37.5%)

Here is a Merlot-led Bordeaux, aged in oak for only three months. Bizarrely, the oak comes through as if it was aged for significantly longer. There are also plums, pencil shavings (in a good way) sandalwood and cooked strawberry flavours to be getting on with. All that for a £7.50 price tag, now that’s one I won’t be returning.

Aldi

Comte de Saint Aignan Pouilly-Fumé, France, £9.99 was £19.99 (save 50%) 

I always think Pouilly Fumé has a lot more to say for itself than Sancerre. It may not be as instantly vibrant, that’s because it’s a food wine with richer flavours, a smokier style, more texture and complexity. I like it even more at 50% off, especially when it delivers aromas of quince and apricot, followed by a mouthful of thyme and preserved Mayer lemon.  

Luc et Louise Cinsault Rosé, £4.99 was £8.99 (Save 44%) 

Sipping rosé in winter is NOT a faux pas. Au contraire, rosé is a versatile food wrangler, and certainly a style I’ll be having on Christmas day. In fact, it’s one of the only wines that can cope with turkey and trimmings, though we’re not quite there yet. Meanwhile, this is made from one of the main grapes found in Provence rosé, aka Cinsault. It’s all zesty satsuma, nectarine and the pith of a pink grapefruit in flavour, so dig in.

Bordeaux Chateau Pomone 2015, France, £9.99 was £17.99 (save 44%)

At under a tenner, this represents desperately good value for money. Particularly if, like me, you’re a fan of more developed styles of red Bordeaux from the Merlot-dominated Right Bank, more specifically, Saint Emilion. This is from the outstanding 2015 vintage, and has swapped its youthful, primary fruit flavours for those of violets, baked mulberries, stewed plums, roast chestnuts and French saucisson stuffed with fennel seeds.

Sainsbury’s

Louis Pommery England – £18 was £29.50 (save 39%)

Surprisingly, Sainsbury’s is a tad light on its November deals when it comes to their non-fizzy wines. The gloves are off when it comes to sparkling though, and this is one of the most dramatic value offerings of the bunch. The English wine of the famous Grand Marque Champagne House, Pommery. They snapped up land in Hampshire back in 2014 and now produce world-class English sparkling with Champenois know-how.

Ocado

Isula d’Amore Love Island Rosé, Corsica, £7.70 was £11 (save 30%)

I get it, we’re light years away from the ‘sweltering’ summer months. Because that’s the only time we’re allowed to swig rosé, right? Wrong. The innate fruit character in a rosé makes it a ‘rosé year-round’ situation. Take Love Island Rosé from Corsica, perhaps the best kept secret for rosé production in the world. Dry, fresh, zesty, apricot and pink pepper flavours to have in your fridge door for the festive period and beyond.

Co-op

Irrestistible La Courbe, Switzerland, £8.50 was £10.50 (save 19%)

This is one of the deepest discounts Co-op have mustered up for Black Friday. It’s also a super unusual red blend from Switzerland, of all places. One of the headliner grapes is Gamaret (think Gamma Ray in pronunciation, not flavour), a crossing of Gamay and Reichensteiner. Its lab name is Pully B-13, so you can see why they changed it. Blended with Pinot Noir here gives deep, delicious bergamot and violet notes with a soft palate of damsons and grains of Paradise.

Majestic

Josh Cellars Pinot Noir, £10.99 was £18.99 (save 42%)

You might have seen this brand go viral on social media via the Josh meme, compared it to driving a Hyundai. The ‘Josh’ name was suddenly everywhere, with people in America gifting bottles to family members called Josh. Great for marketing, with Joshua being one of the most popular boy’s names in the US. The wine itself is a plush, pillowy, fruity expression of Pinot Noir, now at a very reasonable price. Perhaps it’s more of a Ford Focus?

Waitrose

Little Giant Barossa Shiraz, Australia, £9.99 was £12.99 (save 23%)

Maybe not the most gargantuan money-off deal, but then that’s on-brand for Little Giant. It’s aesthtic is based around the small-but-mighty wombat, down to the short and stocky bottle. My goodness though, the wine inside is the mighty part. There’s power, complexity, poise and freshness here, with blackcurrant, liquorice and mocha flavours in the line-up. This may well be one of the best wines you’ve tried in a long time.

Sony has launched a PlayStation Store sale for Black Friday, with big discounts on Hogwarts Legacy and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Black Friday no longer spans a single day but is stretched over several weeks, with many retailers having already dropped the prices of video games ahead of the official date on November 29.

Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony have all gone live with discounts across consoles and games, while stores like Amazon have also kicked off their respective sales.

If you’re in the market for discounts on digital PlayStation games though, Sony has launched a Black Friday sale on the PlayStation Store featuring over 500 PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games. The sale, which is live across the UK, US, and Europe, runs until December 2, 2024.

As for the highlights, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is 38% off at £43.49 and is one of the best showcases for the PlayStation 5. In a similar vein, Astro Bot, which only came out in September, is 15% off at £50.99.

If you’re one of the few who hasn’t bought it already, EA Sports FC 25 is 50% off at £34.99, while Hogwarts Legacy remains under a cheap spell at £19.49 on PlayStation 5, and even lower on PlayStation 4 at £17.99.

Some of the best discounts are in the bundle deals. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth Twin Pack, for example, is 40% off at £56.99, while Resident Evil Remake Trilogy, which combines remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, is 45% off at £41.24.

On the cheaper end of the spectrum, Mortal Kombat 1 is 60% off at £17.99, while Red Dead Redemption 2 can be picked up for £18.14.

While some of these prices are the lowest out there, it’s worth comparing them with physical versions you can pick up on other retailers (if you have a PlayStation 5 with a disc drive), as they’re often even cheaper.
