In 2024, Chinese New Year is today – February 10 – ringing in the Year of the Dragon.

According to Chinese astrology, each year is represented by one of 12 animals, which in turn reflects the characteristics of those born within it.

According to legend, the Jade Emperor challenged a group animals to cross a river, with the order they arrived at the opposite bank determining their place in the astrological calendar.

If you want to find out how 2024 is going to go for you, you’ll have to work out which zodiac sign you belong to – and since the date of the lunar New Year can fall any time between January 21 and February 20, it might not be the one you think.

But once you’ve ascertained whether you’re a rat, rooster, rabbit, or another creature, you’ll find everything you need to know about your year ahead, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Born between:

  • February 7, 2008 – January 25, 2009
  • February 19, 1996 – February 6, 1997
  • February 2, 1984 – February 19, 1985
  • February 15, 1972 – February 2, 1973
  • January 28, 1960 – February 15, 1961
  • February 10, 1948 – January 28, 1949

The year 2024 will bring a mix of opportunities and challenges for you. Your professional life is expected to progress steadily, with the possibility of promotions and salary increases for those who have been working towards this for a while. It may be hard work, but you have the skills to go for your goals.

You may also feel inspired to take on more challenges this year. As your aspirations grow, so does your experience.

Relationships with other people look good too. For single Rats, you can feel open to meeting someone new. Perhaps this could be someone who shares a new hobby or interest of yours. Either way, they must mentally stimulate you for things to flourish.

The life for Rats in longer term relationships could see a steady progression. You may have to work a few irritations or differences out, but you can do this with honesty and open communication.

This year is a time to acquire more knowledge on a subject of your choice. What’s more, your way of thinking can become more flexible, and your creativity enhanced. This shift will open doors for you, particularly within your professional development. If you want to shift roles or your job altogether, you can. Just don’t make any hasty decisions. Strategy is everything.

In terms of health, it’s important this year to find ways to promote serenity, as conflict could bring on stress.

  • February 3, 1973 – January 22, 1974
  • February 15, 1961 – February 4, 1962
  • January 29, 1949 – February 16, 1950

This year can bring into focus your career, and there’s opportunity to climb the ladder. However, it’s important to think through any investments clearly as putting all your eggs in one basket may not be the best route to go down.

On occasion you might find that your patience is tested, so adaptability will be key to overcoming any frustrations. See these challenges as opportunities for emotional growth and personal development.

If you’re single, then 2024 is a great year to meet new people. Some of these will become steadfast friends, but there could also be a blossoming romance. If you’re in a relationship, it’s important to not let social media or idle gossip form a wedge between you.

  • February 5, 1962 – January 24, 1963
  • February 17, 1950 – February 5, 1951

This year can see you succeed in your career and in education, but you need to just keep an eye out for those who are envious of you, or that wish to take the credit for your hard work.

For those who are single, you may find yourself caught up in a whirlwind romance, but can it go the distance? The attraction could be very strong indeed, but do you share the same dreams and values?

For those Tigers in a relationship, it may be that boredom can set in. Just remember that all relationships have different seasons, and the grass is not always greener on the other side! So, think things through before making any hasty choices.

To get the most out of this year, dedication to education or a new hobby can bring you fulfilment. Sure, you may not feel like a natural at first, but with time you could really excel.

Regarding your health, you might find yourself making a few clumsy mistakes this year. When you can, try not to rush, it will only increase this likelihood and cause unnecessary pressure. If you’re always running around after other people, make 2024 a year where you incorporate some time for yourself.

If you’re looking to be in a relationship but are struggling to know where to start, then you might want to begin with your values. Do you have a local community group? Perhaps volunteering will bring you closer to someone who has just as much empathy as you do.

In a long-term situation, it’s vitally important that you feel respected by your partner. If your values align, then something beautiful could continue to grow. If they don’t, then you must question if you can sacrifice these for the sake of the relationship. Some things are too important to compromise on, but only you can make that choice.

This Chinese New Year begins on February 10, with people around the world celebrating the biggest event on the lunar calendar.

It also marks the start of the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac, putting focus onto all those born under this sign.

This form of astrology splits people into 12 signs, each represented by a different animal and denoting shared traits.

There are also classifications associated with the signs that change on a rolling basis – Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Wood, which is this year’s element.

But what does all this mean in practice?

For those not familiar with the Chinese zodiac, here’s everything you need to know about the year of the Wood Dragon – and what it means for your plans.

What are the Years of the Dragon?

You are a Dragon native if you were born between the following dates:

  • January 23, 2012 – February 9, 2013
  • February 5, 2000 – January 23, 2001
  • February 17, 1988 – February 5, 1989
  • January 31, 1976 – February 17, 1977
  • February 13, 1964 – February 1, 1965
  • January 27, 1952 – February 13, 1953

Dragon personality traits

The Chinese zodiac is said to stem from an old proverb called The Great Race. As the story goes, the Jade Emperor tasked a group of animals to get across a flowing river, with the order they arrived on the opposite side determining their place on the calendar.

The Dragon came in fifth, which surprised the Emperor since it could fly and was one of the strongest creatures in the race. Despite this, though, the Dragon had been waylaid making rain so the other animals had something to drink and blowing wind to help the Rabbit (who was at this point floating across the river on a log) get there first.

As such, Dragon natives are considered to be innately gifted and strong, with a desire to take risks in order to make the world a better place.

This is the only mythical creature featured in the Chinese zodiac, and it’s an especially auspicious sign symbolising power, nobility, honour, luck, and success.

In terms of strengths, those born in a Year of the Dragon are thought to be natural leaders, who are knowledgable, ambitious, adventurous and eloquent.

There are some weaknesses, however. Dragon natives can verge on arrogance at times, or appear elusive and intimidating to others. They may also be critical of others or get caught up in perfection and give up on things at the first sign of a setback.

The Wood Dragon in particular is said to be more introverted than those associated with other elements, with less enthusiasm for making or keeping personal relationships.

That said, they’re hard workers who give their all to achieving their dreams, often possessing a creative and curious nature.

Dragon compatibility

According to the Chinese zodiac, the signs most compatible with the Dragon are the Rooster, Rat, and Monkey.

The Rooster’s independence complements the Dragon well, creating a ‘power couple’ who help each other reach goals in work and money matters.

Rat natives, meanwhile, can live in harmony due to their shared passion and intelligence, with a shared understanding of the world cementing their bond.

The Dragon and Monkey are a good match as they’re both romantic and sociable. If they can quell any impulsiveness they can each bring something unique to the relationship; the Monkey offering grounding and organisation and the Dragon providing protection from life’s struggles

Year of the Dragon horoscope for 2024

Those born in the Year of the Dragon share characteristics, but Chinese astrology dictates that it impacts how the year will shape up too.

With the Dragon’s mystical qualities and association with luck, all signs can expect a transformative 2024 filled with excitement.

You can find out your tailored Chinese New Year horoscope here, but more generally, the year will be underpinned by a sense of curiosity, whether that means acquiring knowledge, exploring new hobbies, or taking leaps into relationship commitment.

There may also be a baby boom, as the Year of the Dragon consistently sees the highest number of births in the 12-year Chinese calendrical cycle.

Due to the Wood element’s influence, all this innovation and change will with be tempered with introspection. So while it will be very different to the peace-focused Year of the Rabbit in 2023, action will come alongside a strong sense of ethics.

Forge ahead like the Dragon, but don’t forget to check for any stranded bunnies or thirsty animals as you do so.

In 2024, Chinese New Year falls on February 10, ringing in the Year of the Dragon.

Rat Chinese horoscope for 2024

Born between:

  • January 26, 2009 – February 13, 2010
  • February 7, 1997 – January 27, 1998
  • February 20, 1985 – February 8, 1986

Health-wise, pressures at work could lead to stress, so it’s important to set healthy boundaries and to not promise more than you can deliver. New hobbies can help to relieve the pressure on this front.

Tiger Chinese horoscope for 2024

Tiger signs can expect promotions and recognition in work (Picture: Getty)

Born between:

  • February 14, 2010 – February 2, 2011
  • January 28, 1998 – February 15, 1999
  • February 9, 1986 – January 28, 1987
  • January 23, 1974 – February 10, 1975

Hare/Rabbit Chinese horoscope for 2024

Keep a level head, rabbit natives (Picture: Getty)

Born between:

  • February 3, 2011 – January 22, 2012
  • February 16, 1999 – February 4, 2000
  • January 29, 1987 – February 16, 1988
  • February 11, 1975 – January 30, 1976
  • January 25, 1963 – February 12, 1964
  • February 6, 1951 – January 26, 1952

2024 can run more smoothly for you than last year, but you will still have to hold on to that positivity that got you through it. Team-leaders in a work setting or bossy friends may leave you feeling a little fried, so you need to be able to speak up for yourself.

If there are politics surrounding your work life Rabbit, then it might be wise to take the middle road and to not pick sides, so as not to get caught up in unnecessary dramas.

For single Rabbits, there’s a real opportunity to meet someone special this year. Even if it ends up in friendship, it can be long lasting. It could also offer you some relief from the grind. So, go see that movie, take that trip or have that walk-in nature with someone special!

For those in longer term relationships, this is the year to keep open lines of communication to avoid a negative atmosphere forming. Particularly if you both feel stressed out. Frequent date nights, or just checking in with how each other is doing, will help hugely.

A balance of exercise and rest are important this year to improve your immunity and to revitalise your overall health. Even some simple stretches can shift your mood in a positive direction.

Dragon Chinese horoscope for 2024

Avoid overspending unnecessarily, dragons (Picture: Getty)

Born between:

  • January 23, 2012 – February 9, 2013
  • February 5, 2000 – January 23, 2001
  • February 17, 1988 – February 5, 1989
  • January 31, 1976 – February 17, 1977
  • February 13, 1964 – February 1, 1965
  • January 27, 1952 – February 13, 1953

2024 is Ben Ming Nian (Zodiac Year of Birth) for those born with Chinese zodiac sign of the Dragon.

This year may see changes to your original career plans, and whilst this might feel frustrating, it’s important to flex, to make the most of the opportunities that do come your way.

Financially, this is not a year to overspend unnecessarily. Balancing the books can give you more control and help you to avoid making any investment mistakes.

If studying a new topic, you may find a few challenges in understanding certain assignments, but it’s possible to really succeed if you keep your mind focused on the goal, even if this means re-taking any exams or tests.

For single Dragons, you may choose to use this year to pursue your own personal dreams and goals, rather than to be attached. This can be a great time to get to know yourself in empowering ways.

For Dragons in a relationship, if there are any worries about the future it’s important to voice them to avoid misunderstandings. Be bold in your needs and desires, and you may be surprised with just how supportive a partner could turn out to be.

In terms of your health, with plans changing and things not always travelling in a straight line, you could find yourself a little moody at times. Be gentle with yourself during this process. Talking to trusted friends, family or a professional, can really help you to release any frustrations and bring them out into the open.

Snake signs may have a decision to make in love (Picture: Getty)

2024 can see your intuition soar, Snake. This enhanced insight might allow you to make clear decisions, particularly involving your career.

You can find growth and success in this area, and by strategising the first part of this year may see you researching or planning behind the scenes before striking out and implementing any new plans.

Your social and professional circle could expand this year, as you become a great networker. New partnerships and collaborations can also further your career goals and working as a team may take you far.

Use your money wisely this year, however. You can increase opportunity for financial abundance, as long as you stay grounded and fight the urge to overspend.

2024 can see your values or beliefs tested. Don’t see this as a nuisance, but rather a chance to question your own philosophies and expand your consciousness.

Single? You could find yourself drawn to more than one person. Take time to really get to know people before committing, as this saves all parties any potential confusion. If you’re a Snake in a relationship, there could be times this year when you feel a little bored. However, remember steady is not the same as boring. In fact, steady can be magical, if you really allow it a chance to evolve.

For many Signs this year, financial frugality is important, and this is no different for you. Enjoy yourself, but look to do everything in moderation.

For Horses in a relationship, you may find that the bond deepens to new levels of understanding and trust. For singletons, this could be the year that you start to get to know someone at your own pace who may be very much part of your future.

If previous years have felt a little more serious, this one could allow you to demonstrate your passions and explore your creative side more fully.

There’s a real chance for career development, even awards and recognition may come your way. Fear not, you’re not going to have to trample over others to get to where you want to be. Sustained effort and gentleness will reap the rewards you desire.

For single Sheep, it could be that you meet that special someone through a creative project or shared interest. So, even more of a reason to make time for a new hobby. For those in a relationship, you and a partner can get creative together. Perhaps by planning a trip, decorating your space or even bonding over your shared pastimes.

To express your creative side this year you may have to invest. This could be in the form of home improvements or supplies for something artistic. Perhaps you’ll have to cut back in other areas to do this, but with a little imagination you will balance things out.

Monkey Chinese horoscope for 2024

The monkey is a sign known for its quick reactions (Picture: Getty)

Born between:

  • January 22, 2004 – February 8, 2005
  • February 4, 1992 – January 22, 1993
  • February 16, 1980 – February 4, 1981
  • January 30, 1968 – February 16, 1969
  • February 12, 1956 – January 30, 1957

2024 is the year where your adaptability and quick wit can help you get ahead. As with many Signs this year, finances can be a little squeezed. But with your ingenious solutions you’re equipped to deal with any headwinds well.

In the workplace, your innovative ideas can lead you towards the completion of a successful project and something that you may receive acclaim for. Yes, you will have to work for it, but this is a time to work smart and not just hard!

If you’re a single Monkey, it will be important to watch how any love interests act, particularly around others. Values matter to you, so if someone you like can talk the talk, check to see if they can also walk the walk.

For Monkeys in a longer-term situation, you may excel in articulating your ideas and making persuasive arguments. This can be useful if you want to make any life changes that you need a partner on board with this year.

Rooster Chinese horoscope for 2024

Rooster signs, the future is on your mind (Picture: Getty)

Born between:

  • February 9, 2005 – January 28, 2006
  • January 23, 1993 – February 9, 1994
  • February 5, 1981 – January 24, 1982
  • February 17, 1969 – Feb05,1970
  • January 31, 1957 – February 17, 1958

Roosters, you are known for your meticulous nature and eye for detail. During the Year of the Dragon, these qualities are likely to intensify, imbuing you with an extraordinary sense of precision and an enhanced ability to tackle complex tasks with great care.

Why can this be important? It’s because your diligence and application could lead to remarkable successes, particularly within your chosen career. 2024 gives you a real opportunity to reach professional milestones. Some of which you might have been working towards for a long time.

If you’re single, this may be the year where you start to think about what you really would like from all aspects of your life, including a romantic relationship. You might even find yourself putting together a check list of values that you would like a potential mate to possess. Just be careful not to let logic ruin passion. Sometimes tantalising connections are not easily explained with pen and paper.

If you’re in a relationship, perhaps you and your partner are making plans for your future. This may include expanding your family, focusing on home renovations or perhaps a relocation altogether. Just make sure to keep each other informed with your ideas.

There’s opportunity this year to refine your beliefs and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. Whilst this alone may not change your outer world in a dramatic way, it could help to heal your inner world.

Dog Chinese horoscope for 2024

Dog natives are looking for commitment (Picture: Getty)

Born between:

  • January 29, 2006 – February 17, 2007
  • February 10, 1994 – January 30, 1995
  • January 25, 1982 – February 12, 1983
  • February 6, 1970 – January 26, 1971
  • February 18, 1958 – February 7, 1959

Loyalty, commitment and empathy are going to be three words that reach into all areas of your life this year, Dog. You may find that you’re able to help a loved one in a profound way. Your support can be greatly appreciated, just make sure to take time for yourself too.

If there have been difficulties in the workplace in recent times, you could be commended for your ability to stay neutral and ethical. This integrity has not gone unnoticed, and while you may not have acted this way for any personal gain, you might receive praise regardless.

If your career doesn’t align with your personal values, you may start to construct a plan to make this better or move job altogether. You don’t need to rush this process, but you do need to be somewhere that you feel you belong for your own professional satisfaction.

Finances might though feel constrained at times during this year, but you can create solutions to complex problems. However, if you don’t feel you have all the tools, then reach out for assistance, support or advice. Always bear in mind that a problem shared is a problem halved.

For Dogs in relationships, you could be thinking of committing to each other in a new way. This might be through a formal marriage or renewal of vows, or even through expanding your family or moving in with each other. It may be in a more spiritual expression, that you become closer through sharing your feelings and showing some vulnerabilities.

For single Dogs, you may decide that 2024 is the year you want to take meeting someone seriously. It’s important that you find loyalty within a potential partner. If you’ve been hurt in the past you can heal, just take things slow and move at your own pace.

Pig Chinese horoscope for 2024

2024 is one of romantic exploration for pig signs (Picture: Getty)

Born between:

  • February 18, 2007 – February 6, 2008
  • January 31, 1995 – February 18, 1996
  • February 13, 1983 – February 1, 1984
  • January 27, 1971 – February 14, 1972
  • February 8, 1959 – January 27, 1960

You share some of the attributes of the Dog this year, Pig. The main one being your ability to show empathy towards others.

Because of this, you could find people coming to you for advice or support. You might not have all the answers, but you certainly have enough life experience to give some important pointers.

Your charitable nature will not go unnoticed, particularly within your profession. You may find that you wish to pursue more philanthropic activities this year, and some of these opportunities could come through your workplace.

Collaborating with others who share your ideologies may be a comfort to you this year, knowing that other people do share similar values.

If you’re a single Pig, you may be by choice. Perhaps it gives you the freedom to explore new things and get to know yourself on a deeper level.

It’s coming soon (Picture: Metro.co.uk/Getty)

Chinese New Year is just around the corner – but it’s not happening tonight.

The Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture – but it doesn’t fall on the same date as New Year’s Eve.

So, if you’re struggling to come up with a list of resolutions for 2024, fear not, because you still have a few more weeks until Chinese New Year.

Here’s everything to know about the celebration…

When is Chinese New Year 2024?

Chinese New Year falls on Saturday, February 10 2024.

This date differs every year – so, for example, Chinese New Year 2023 fell on January 22, and in 2022 it was on February 1.

Why is Chinese New Year different?

The most commonly used calendar in the world – and the one we use – is the Gregorian Calendar, which was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. It’s a solar calendar based on a 365-day year, divided into 12 months.

However, Chinese New Year is based on the lunisolar calendar – which is why it’s sometimes called Lunar New Year, too.

Each year, Chinese New Year is celebrated at the second new moon following the Winter Solstice and can fall anywhere between late January 21 and February 20 on the Gregorian Calendar.

The Chinese lunar calendar has 12 months and 353 to 355 days. During a leap year it has 13 months and 383 to 385 days.

What animal will Chinese New Year 2024 be?

Chinese New Year 2024 marks the start of the Year of the Dragon.

The Chinese Zodiac is a traditional classification cycle of 12 animals that assigns one of the creatures (and its particular attributes) to a given year. It’s based on the Chinese calendar and not only are the animals meant to represent years in China, they’re also meant to influence people’s personalities, career opportunities, marriage and fortune.

Because 2024 is the year of the dragon, specifically the Wood Dragon, people born next year will be fantastic leaders, charismatic, confident and have natural luck in abundance.

The Dragon is probably the most famous of the Chinese Zodiac animals. In 2023, we celebrated the Year of the Water Rabbit, because each animal is also assigned an element.

Wood is associated with springtime and signifies enthusiasm and growth.

  • Rat (1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020)
  • Ox (1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021)
  • Tiger (1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022)

Chinese New Year typically lasts for 15 days, starting on Chinese New Year’s Eve to the Lantern Festival, which is taking place on Saturday, February 24 2024.

How is Chinese New Year celebrated?

There are lots of traditions associated with Chinese New Year (Picture: Getty Images)

Families come together for banquets and to enjoy outdoor spectacles with firecrackers, fireworks and dancing dragons.

In China, families travel thousands of miles to be with each other to ring in the New Year – and since 1990, people have been given a week off from work for it.

Those who celebrate Chinese New Year typically decorate their houses with red for good luck, and children are given red envelopes with money inside.

Greeting Card 2019 Zodiac Pig
The Pig is the twelfth Chinese zodiac sign (Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto)

In the story of the Great Race – and as a result the Chinese zodiac – the Pig ends up in last place.

However, while the animal may not have much by way of a competitive streak, the Pig has a lot going for it in different ways.

Legend has it that the Jade Emperor challenged a selection of animals to cross a river, with their position determining where they’d end up in the Chinese calendar.

The Pig came in twelfth of twelve, after stopping to eat mid-race and dozing off before deciding to cross the finish line.

For this reason, the Pig has often been associated with laziness or self-indulgence, but it’s actually a lucky sign considered to be connected to wealth and abundance too (which makes sense given the piggy bank’s unique shape).

As Pigs have large litters, they’re a symbol of virility in Chinese tradition, and also carry traits like honesty, patience, a good sense of humour and a dislike for controversy or conflict.

The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, also splits Pig signs into five elements; Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth.

These are said to offer a deeper look into the characteristics of those born in certain years, with the Fire Pig encompassing a strong sense of ambition and the Water Pig possessing a more gentle and earnest outlook.

Below you’ll findeverything you need to know about how 2023 will play out for these porcine pals according to Chinese astrology, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Pig sign birth years

You’re a Pig sign if you were born in the following years:

  • 2019
  • 2007
  • 1995
  • 1983
  • 1971
  • 1959
  • 1947
  • 1935

However, if you were born in January, February, or March, you may want to double check your sign using an online calculator. Because the signs change from Chinese New Year onwards, it can catch you out.

Pig horoscope for 2023

Overall, 2023 is set to be a good year for Pig natives, with a lot of luck on the horizon – and a few unexpected (yet positive) developments too.

Those born under the sign are advised to maintain a positive outlook to allow these good things to come their way, as an attitude of doom and gloom will make it harder to achieve goals.

We’re currently in a Year of the Water Rabbit, which signifies rolling with punches and jumping right back up again, along with embracing change like these adaptable bunnies do so well.

Pig natives should look after their health and focus on living well (in a way that suits but within reason) for prosperity. Those born under the sign should also be careful when it comes to their possessions, as potential loss or theft is predicted.

Pig love horoscope for 2023

Single Pig natives are predicted to be inundated with opportunities to meet people this year, but will have to take the initiative to progress the relationship.

Spend time getting to know someone before going all in and don’t rush a potential match either, as doing so may lead to over-committing due to lust.

According to Chinese astrology, there may be misunderstandings in relationships for coupled-up Pigs too. Try to see your partner’s perspective before jumping to conclusions – and be as clear as possible in communication – and things will be back on track.

Temptation could be on the horizon romantically too, so those born in the Year of the Pig should be careful not to let their eye wander.

Pig work and money horoscope for 2023

The horoscope for Pig natives suggests periods of intense stress and hard work throughout the year, although efforts will be recognised by superiors.

Relationships with management and people of influence at work are set to be particularly harmonious, with opportunities for promotion or salary growth for Pig signs who remain diligent.

It’s not said to be a great year for investing or changing career for the sign, though. Carefully calculate any financial risks and ensure you have a safety net to fall back on if things don’t go to plan.

Those who are self-employed may experience more competition than usual or struggle to turn as much profit as previously. With a positive attitude and by keeping your eyes on the prize, however, Pig natives can weather the storm.

Lucky dates, numbers and talismans for Pig signs

Lucky days: Luck is smiling down on Pig natives on the 14th and 17th of each Chinese Lunar month, but the 11th, 10th, 7th and 2nd months (dōngyuè, shíyuè, qīyuè and èryuè) are also auspicious.

Lucky numbers: A Pig’s lucky numbers are 2, 5 and 8 – and this includes longer numbers containing these digits, like 82 and 58.

Lucky colours: Gold, yellow, brown and gold are all lucky colours for Pig signs, and can be worn or used to decorate a home to promote good fortune.

Lucky charms: Hydrangeas and daisies are among the Pig’s lucky flowers, and can be worn or held, while rubies are an auspicious gemstone for the sign.

Chinese New Year lantern and dog greeting card
The Dog came in 11th in the great race (Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto)

Dog is man’s best friend, and also the 11th sign in the Chinese zodiac.

In the origin story of the lunar calendar, the Jade Emperor asked a group of animals to cross a river. Their place in what’s now known as ‘the great race’ would determine their place in the zodiac.

Despite the dog being one of the best swimmers among the animals, it came second-last because it had been frolicking and bathing in the clear water.

This typifies the sign’s easily distracted nature, but there are a number of other traits associated with the Dog.

Loyalty is one of the main characteristics of Dog signs, along with kindness, honesty, reliability and bravery.

In terms of downsides, Dogs can be critical and somewhat stubborn. They can also be prone to acting too quickly in stressful situations, which leads to misunderstandings and frustration.

The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, also splits signs into five elements; Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth.

These are said to offer a deeper look into the characteristics of those born in certain years, with the Wood Dog known for patience and the Water Dog encompassing a shrewd and sometimes self-serving temperament.

Below you’ll findeverything you need to know about how 2023 will play out for these canines according to Chinese astrology, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Dog sign birth years

You’re a Dog sign if you were born in the following years:

  • 1922
  • 1934
  • 1956
  • 1958
  • 1970
  • 1982
  • 1994
  • 2006
  • 2018

However, if you were born in January, February, or March, you may want to double check your sign using an online calculator. Because the signs change from Chinese New Year onwards, it can catch you out.

Dog horoscope for 2023

According to Chinese astrology, it’s a lucky year for those born in the Year of the Dog.

There may be some instability in careers and wealth, but Dog natives’ love lives are on the up and up.

Throughout the Year of the Water Rabbit, this sign is predicted to see growth in a number of aspects, with your support network motivating you and pushing you forward.

Additionally, it’s expected that Dog natives will find greater ease in expressing themselves and their needs, which should lead to a reduction in stress and a calm mind.

Dog signs who like to travel are advised to be careful with their gastrointestinal health, as they may struggle with tummy troubles in a new place. Otherwise, their overall health should be stable.

Dog love horoscope for 2023

Single Dog signs may meet their match in 2023, as fortune dictates there will be a variety of social opportunities and offers for dates.

This flourishing relationship may be tumultuous, however, so watch out for conflict and misunderstandings.

Those in relationships also have a lot of luck coming their way, but must make sure to put the time and effort into planning romantic activities and effectively communicating feelings.

Be selfless (sometimes a struggle for Dog natives) and show how much you care, and you’ll see the benefit in a stronger connection.

Dog work and money horoscope for 2023

It’s a particularly good work year for Dog natives, who will be blessed with good fortune throughout 2023.

Those born under the sign will be recognised for their efforts, with potential for promotions and pay rises that could bring lasting career development.

One downside of all this attention you pups will be receiving is that colleagues may be jealous of your success and may try to cause trouble. Dog signs are advised not to brag or shout too loudly about achievements to avoid attracting ire.

In terms of money, although Dog natives are predicted to earn more (including the potential of a bonus or a lucrative side hustle) there may be losses too. This may be a failed investment or due to fraud or robbery, and perhaps even due to lending money to a distant friend or relative.

As long as Dogs mind their finances and focus on building wealth through hard work and creativity, it’ll be all good.

Lucky dates, numbers and talismans for Dog signs

Lucky days: Luck is smiling down on Dog natives on the 7th and 28th of every lunar month, but the 6th, 10th, and 12th Chinese months (héyuè, lùyuè and bīngyuè) are also auspicious.

Lucky numbers: A Dog’s lucky numbers are 9, 4, and 3- and this includes longer numbers containing these digits, like 49 or 34.

Lucky colours: Dog signs should wear or decorate with green, red or purple to invite good fortune.

Lucky charms: Roses and Cymbidium Orchids are among the Dog’s lucky flowers, and can be worn or held to promote good fortune.

Diamonds are also the sign’s lucky gemstone, so a piece of jewellery with a sparkler should help protect your energy.

The Rooster is nature’s alarm clock and the signal that night has turned to morning.

It’s also the tenth sign in the Chinese Zodiac – and its position in the calendar’s origin story can tell us a lot about its associated traits.

In the Great Race, the Jade Emperor challenges a group of animals with crossing a river. The order in which they made it to the opposite bank would determine their place in the zodiac.

The Rooster’s tenth spot was won through teamwork; the cockerel managed to find a raft, while the Monkey and Goat cleared away weeds and branches and helped steer the trio to shore.

Like their namesake then, Rooster natives are characterised as chatty, social, hardworking and resourceful.

They’re also said to encompass a trademark ‘cock of the walk’ attitude, but can be guilty of vanity or boasting – as well as ruffling feathers with their honesty.

The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, splits Dragon signs into five elements; Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth. That means that among Rooster natives you’ll find certain traits more prominent in certain birth years.

For example, the Water Rooster is associated with a compassionate nature, while the Earth Rooster is said to be particularly loyal and close to friends.

Below you’ll find everything you need to know about how 2023 will play out for these loud and proud birds according to Chinese astrology, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Rooster sign birth years

You’re a Rooster sign if you were born in the following years:

  • 1933
  • 1945
  • 1957
  • 1969
  • 1981
  • 1993

Rooster horoscope for 2023

2023 is a Year of the Rabbit, and Rooster natives are in for some less than good fortune due to opposition to the age god, Tai Sui.

Simply put, it’s unlikely to be an easy ride according to the Chinese Zodiac. Expect obstacles, ups and downs, and periods of uncertainty in most aspects of life.

That said, by getting through whatever crises come your way, you’ll learn a lot and feel better equipped to deal with life’s challenges.

There’s also the opportunity to improve relationships through putting the work in, and to take better care of your body and mind.

Rooster love horoscope for 2023

In love, Rooster natives are advised to make the effort.

It’s predicted that single Roosters may miss the right person if they close themselves off emotionally, or if they refuse to put themselves out there due to fear or negativity.

Similarly, coupled-up Roosters’ relationships could suffer without work. Those born under the sign should avoid taking work (and its associated headaches) home to their partner, instead spending quality time together and letting the partnership be a refuge.

Difficult conversations may be necessary this year. Don’t shy away from what needs to be said and be prepared to accept the consequences.

Rooster work and money horoscope for 2023

Rooster natives with business ideas or plans to make a big investment, proceed with caution throughout 2023.

In terms of work, it’s not a good time for those born under the sign to change careers or take any major risks. The focus should be on building a solid foundation of skills and learning from mistakes.

According to the Chinese zodiac, Roosters should also take a look at their teamwork. Are there any areas where you could use a hand? Could fresh eyes help you accomplish your goals in a different way?

The theme of taking stock and being careful is big for this sign across the year. Rooster natives are advised to be cautious with investing and financial decisions, and to stick to a budget in case of any unexpected costs.

The Rooster that prepares for emergencies will fare far better than those that don’t, and a positive (yet risk-averse) attitude will also serve you well.

Lucky dates, numbers and talismans for Rooster signs

Lucky days: The 4th and 26th of any Chinese lunar month are said to bring good fortune for Roosters, but the 2nd, 5th, and 11th Chinese lunar months (èryuè, wǔyuè and dōngyuè) are also lucky.

Lucky numbers: The numbers 3, 5, and 8 are considered to be auspicious for Rooster natives, as well as combinations of these digits such as 35 or 83.

Lucky colours: Roosters should wear and decorate their homes with the shades yellow, brown or gold for good luck.

Lucky charms: The flowers gladiola and cockscomb are thought to be lucky charms for those born in a Year of the Rooster.

However, since this isn’t predicted to be a great one for the sign, natives are also advised to use Fu Dogs to protect their Feng Shui.

The Monkey is the ninth sign in the Chinese zodiac, associated with curiosity and sharp instincts just like the animal.

The primate’s position in the origin story of the astrological calendar can also give us deeper insight into its trademark traits.

As the tale goes, the Jade Emperor tasked a group of animals to cross a river, with their places determining the order of the zodiac.

The Monkey, Goat and Rooster teamed up, traversing the river on a raft found by the Rooster as the Monkey and Goat cleared weeds and steered the trio to shore.

The Emperor was pleased with their teamwork and quick thinking, and the Monkey would forever be known as a smart, friendly and brave sign.

Monkey natives are said to have characteristics like a quick wit and a capable mind. They’re one of the social butterflies of the Chinese zodiac, beloved for their sense of humour and sense of optimism.

However, they’re great leaders as well as being class clowns, as their courage and opportunistic nature allows them to take on risk, which they back up with likeability and intellect.

That said, the downsides of being a Monkey native include a tendency to brag or overblow their own skills. They should be careful to avoid impatience too.

Chinese signs are also split into five elements – Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth – which are said to offer a deeper look into the characteristics of those born in certain years.

The Fire Monkey, for example, is associated with adaptability and maturity, while the Earth Monkey is known for its earnest, considerate personality.

The Goat is the eighth sign in the Chinese zodiac, typified by a gentle nature and strong sense of resilience.

The origin story of this zodiac illustrates the traits associated with each sign, with each animal’s position in the calendar determined by their place in what’s known as The Great Race.

The legend goes that the Jade Emperor tasked a group of animals with crossing a river to reach him on the opposite bank.

The Horse came in seventh after being startled by the wily Snake, while the Goat, Monkey and Rooster followed on a raft.

Although Rooster had found the raft, the Goat and Monkey worked together to clear away weeds and push the trio to shore.

As a result, the Jade Emperor praised the three for their cooperation, giving the Goat eighth place and cementing its position as one of the biggest team players in the zodiac.

Those born under the Goat sign are also predicted to move house this year. While this will improve the family dynamic, it may cause squabbles and tension. These arguments are easily resolved, so try not to sweat the small stuff and see the bigger picture during disputes (although you may need to set clear boundaries in some situations).

Goat love horoscope for 2023

It’s predicted that Goat natives will see some miscommunication in their love lives this year, perhaps due to an emotionally unavailable partner or more tangible issues like housing.

Goats may find that these struggles disappear by themselves over time, but if they cause the end of a relationship, it’s meant to be. Better things are on the horizon for those born under the sign, and negative energy must be released to leave space for the new.

Over spring and summer it’s expected that the sign’s social calendar will be full up, and single Goats might find romance during the warmer months. This connection can help rebuild trust after bad experiences, but do double-check that this fresh perspective isn’t merely a case of rose-coloured glasses.

Goat work and money horoscope for 2023

In 2023, Goats will be influenced by Tianyi nobles (four positive gods in Taoist tradition) and Kuigang nobles (another four ‘pillar gods’) in the careers sector, which is great news if you’re looking to make progress at work.

Promotions or significant advancement is predicted, with the hard work of previous years finally paying off. Look out for interesting opportunities Goats, and don’t be afraid to put yourself forward for them.

Goat natives will see a boost in their confidence as a result of this recognition, meaning they’ll breeze through presentations and client-facing projects. They should keep an eye on communication to ensure they’re not too blunt at times, but not shy away from taking credit where it’s due.

Money will also flow into the pockets of those born in the Year of the Goat in 2023, as all that groundwork (either at work or via investments) begins to offer financial rewards.

To temper this, Goat natives must set actually achievable goals (dreaming too big will leave you feeling inadequate) and avoid lending money. This sign is generous to a fault but may need some extra cash in years to come, so shouldn’t feel guilt at putting something away for the future.

Horse, zodiac sign
The horse is a symbol of strength and elegance (Picture: Getty Images)

The signs of the Chinese zodiac are represented by 12 animals, with traits and predictions associated with each.

Those born under the Year of the Horse are said to be strong and graceful, possessing the ability to go from gentle pony to wild stallion depending on the situation.

The zodiac’s origin story helps explain this further.

In the tale of the Great Race, it’s said that the Jade Emperor tasked a group of animals with crossing a river, with the results determining their order in the calendar.

The Horse came in seventh, after the Snake and just before the Goat. While the Horse and Goat tried to kindly let each other go first, the Snake pipped them both to the post by hiding under the Horse’s foot and scaring it.

Although the Emperor praised the Horse for its polite offer, it was set back by its flightiness. And like the real animal, this can be a problem for natives of the sign.

Horse signs crave freedom and hate being bored, but tend to be enthusiastic and cheerful in most situations, which makes them well-liked among their peers. This independent sign has a tendency to overestimate their abilities and should be careful not to let their straightforward thinking inadvertently hurt those around them – yet they’ll always stand up for the ones they love.

The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, also splits Horse signs into five elements -Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth – which are said to offer a deeper look into the characteristics of those born in certain years. The Fire Horse, for example, is associated with high energy and passion.

Below you’ll find everything you need to know about how 2023 will play out for these free-spirited fillies according to Chinese astrology, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Horse horoscope for 2023

We’re currently in the Year of the Rabbit, which is said to be particularly lucky for Horse natives.

Chinese astrology predicts there may be health issues towards November or December for this sign, but maintaining a healthy diet and being careful during potentially dangerous tasks should help reduce the risk.

Horses who are in education are said to get a popularity boost thanks to helping out classmates, and there is good fortune on the cards in terms of careers and investments.

It’s noted that natives of the sign should keep an eye on their mindset throughout 2023. They’re advised to avoid people whose negative energy spreads to them, causing low mood and halting progress in other areas of life.

Horse love horoscope for 2023

There’s a lot of luck in the world for Horse natives this year, and it’s predicted that some may even hear wedding bells before 2024.

Singles may meet someone special through an introduction by an older family member or acquaintance, so taking the plunge on a blind date could really pay off.

Those in a couple should be careful not to let silly squabbles harm the relationship and try not to complain about their partner to others. If they can approach things maturely, they’ll achieve greater mutual understanding and a deeper connection.

Horse work and money horoscope for 2023

Although it’s predicted to be a good year career-wise for Horse natives, there is the potential for things to turn sour.

According to astrology, those born under the sign are likely to be promoted or otherwise recognised for their enthusiasm at work, but misunderstandings could cause problems.

They’re advised to triple-check contracts and set out expectations clearly before starting any project, as well as to ignore jealous co-workers or rivals. Finding a way to work smarter rather than harder can also help avoid burnout.

In terms of money, steady growth is predicted for Horse signs and there may be some big opportunities to make cash through investing. That said, it’s recommended to do research before any big financial decisions, and to save some extra for a rainy day.

Lucky dates, numbers and talismans for Horse signs

Lucky days: Luck is smiling down on Horse natives on 20th and 5th of each Chinese lunar month, but the 12th, 9th and 4th months (Làyuè, Júyuè and Huáiyuè) are also thought to be prosperous.

Lucky numbers: A Horse’s lucky numbers are 2, 3 and 7 – and this includes longer numbers containing these digits, like 27 and 32.

Lucky colours: Brown, green and yellow are the luckiest colours for those born in the Year of the Horse.

Lucky charms: Cala lillies and jasmine flowers are also auspicious for the sign, so pop a bunch somewhere prominent in your home to invite the good fortune in.

Here’s how your year will shape up, Snakes (Picture: Getty)

You can learn a lot about the 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac from the story of The Great Race.

Said to be the origin of the classification, it tells the tale of the Jade Emperor and a group of animals.

The Emperor called the animals to a riverside while he stood on the opposite bank. He tasked them with crossing the water to join him, saying the order in which they reached the other side would determine their place in the zodiac.

The Snake came in sixth, just after the Dragon but ahead of the Horse: the reptile had hidden behind the Horse’s hoof, making itself known just in time to scare the flighty animal and sneak in front.

That sneakiness is what we tend to associate serpents with, and it’s certainly a factor within Chinese astrology.

However, there’s so much more to the sign, from a keen sense to intuition to the ability to be calm and collected in a crisis. So while calling someone a Snake is normally an insult, its far more nuanced in this instance.

You can also go deeper into Snake sign qualities by looking at the elemental groupings in the Chinese zodiac (or shengxiao) which splits signs into five elements – Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth.

These are said to offer greater insight into the characteristics of those born in certain years, with the Wood Snake, for example, representing refined tastes and the Metal Snake signalling strong leadership skills.

Below you’ll findeverything you need to know about how 2023 will play out for these slick creatures according to Chinese astrology, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Snake sign birth years

You’re a Snake sign if you were born in the following years:

  • 2013
  • 2001
  • 1989
  • 1977
  • 1965
  • 1953
  • 1941
  • 1929
  • 1917

However, if you were born in January, February, or March, you may want to double-check your sign using an online calculator. Because the signs change from Chinese New Year onwards, it can catch you out.

Snake horoscope for 2023

We are currently in the Year of the Water Rabbit, and it looks like it’ll be a positive one for Snake natives.

This year, it’s predicted that Snakes will have good fortune at work in particular. They can expect to grow their wealth and progress in their careers, although the theme of ‘effort coming to fruition’ will be seen across their lives.

The people this sign meets this year will be important, but they’ll need to be the driving force behind changes and decisions. They’ll also need to fend off self-doubt, as this could be what causes problems.

In terms of health, Chinese astrology says that Snake natives may be prone to minor issues related to overworking themselves. They’re advised to keep an eye on their diets and sleep schedules, and to try to maintain a good work/life balance.

Snake love horoscope for 2023

Because it’s set to be a big career year for Snakes, those that are in relationships need to be careful not to neglect their partners as a result. Otherwise, things will be steady, and quality time helps restore the connection.

It’s also said to be a good year for Snake signs to tie the knot if they’ve been considering it, with a romantic and exciting energy for weddings.

Single serpents should be careful of that forked tongue, as insensitivity can lead to missed opportunities. Additionally, they should watch out for financial imbalances with new partners and avoid investing too much in anyone before they truly know them.

Snake work and money horoscope for 2023

The Snake’s characteristic sharp eye and cool disposition will come in handy in the sign’s work life in 2023. They will be tasked with making decisions and completing key tasks – and be properly recognised for their efforts.

This success may invite negativity from others who are jealous or have underlying motives, but it’s predicted to resolve as the year goes on. Staying out of office politics will help speed this along.

Snake signs should trust their intuition when it comes to investing too, taking care not to be swept along by hype or hearsay.

The origin story of the Chinese zodiac can reveal a lot about each sign.

As the tale goes, the Jade Emperor challenged 12 animals to cross a river. The order in which they arrived at the opposite bank would determine their place in the astrological calendar.

The Dragon – the only mythical creature in the race – came in fifth, just after the Rabbit (meaning 2024 is a Year of the Dragon).

While we tend to think of them as fearsome beasts, the Dragon’s mediocre position was actually due to altruism and kindness.

When a fire broke out in a nearby village, it diverted from the race to extinguish the blaze. Then, on its way back from saving lives, it saw the Rabbit get into trouble in the water, using its powerful breath to blow the bunny safely to shore.

The Rabbit was unaware who came to its aid, but the honourable Dragon was happy to give up its spot to the animal it had surreptitiously rescued.

This exemplifies the Dragon’s nature, with the mythical being symbolising integrity and morality alongside success, power, and luck.

The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, also splits Dragon signs into five elements; Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth.  These are said to offer a deeper look into the characteristics of those born in certain years, with the Wood Dragon (2024’s element) characterised by a more introverted and insular personality.

Below you’ll findeverything you need to know about how 2023 will play out for these fiery creatures according to Chinese astrology, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Dragon sign birth years

You’re a Dragon sign if you were born in the following years:

  • 1928
  • 1940
  • 1952
  • 1964
  • 1976
  • 1988
  • 2000
  • 2012

However, if you were born in January, February, or March, you may want to double check your sign using an online calculator. Because the signs change from Chinese New Year onwards, it can catch you out.

Dragon horoscope for 2023

Although 2023 is a Year of the Rabbit, the God of Age in Chinese mythology, Tai Sui (who is said to make problems for people in their birth years) will be watching Dragon natives.

Thankfully there will also be some input from the lucky stars, who will keep those born under this sign on the right track even when things are tough.

Overall, Dragon signs can expect a year with some setbacks but steady (albeit gradual) progress.

To have the best outcomes, this sign should avoid giving up. Even when it feels like two steps forward and one step back, try to remember that slow progress is still progress.

Take some time to evaluate how far you’ve come, keep plugging along, and look after yourself as much as possible.

Dragon love horoscope for 2023

Single Dragons should be on the lookout for hidden intentions when dating this year.

This sign symbolises confidence and ambition (Dragon natives are natural leaders) which can attract people whose motives are less than pure, so it’s advised to be cautious of partners who seem like they prefer what’s in your wallet rather than what’s in your heart.

For Dragons in relationships, petty squabbles and issues with intimacy are predicted, so you should keep that fire-breathing temper in check to avoid ramping up tensions further.

According to Chinese astrology, those born under this sign may find themselves in a nostalgic mood throughout 2023, which translates to partners as cold or uncaring.

To overcome these malefic influences, try to see things from the other side, and make the effort to interact as much as possible – after all, the grass is greenest where you water it.

Dragon work and money horoscope for 2023

In work, the Dragon is predicted to experience a smooth 2023, thanks to the influence of lucky star Yue De.

Rivals will be keeping a close eye on this sign, so Dragons should work out who they can lean on and make the most of their support. In fact, Dragon natives in business may make a work connection that proves invaluable – someone you can rely on in future and is worth keeping around.

The overarching advice is to work hard and cherish the positive things you have, creating a solid foundation from which you can grow later.

Money-wise, it’s not expected to be a year of abundance, but one of reliable income and realistic earnings growth.

While promotions and pay rises might be on the cards, they’ll come about as a result of daily effort and gradually improved work efficiency.

You may be an ambitious sign that isn’t afraid of risks, but now is not the time for precarious investments or poorly-planned business endeavours.

I have always feared rats – in fact I find them repulsive.

I feel the same about snakes. And now, thanks to the latest wellness trend centred around an age-old practice, I discover I am both of them. A Yang Fire Rat and a Yin Water Snake to be precise.

However, I also discover I’m a (Yang Fire) monkey, which pleases me greatly.

I find all this out during a BaZi chart reading at the hands of Chinese medicine practitioner Katie Brindle. A healer, entrepreneur and author with twenty clinical years under her belt, she is also the founder of the award-winning lifestyle brands Hayo’u and Hayo’uFit.

Little known in the West, BaZi (Ba means 8, and Zi means character) has been used in classical Chinese medicine for years, with both Chinese Taoists and astrologers employing it to predict people’s destinies.

It works in conjunction with Western medicine – there is no conflict, but if we find ourselves constantly wondering why certain health symptoms persist, why some (unwanted) events seem to happen repeatedly and how to modify our behaviour to prevent these blockages, then a BaZi consultation is said to provide extraordinarily accurate insights and a comprehensive road map for the future, by harnessing the energy that was in the universe the day you were born.

Chinese medicine practitioner Katie Brindle can offer an in-depth BaZi reading (Credit: Supplied)

‘BaZi gives a deep and specific understanding into the meaning of your life,’ Katie explains to me at the start of our session. ‘It provides clarity and solutions if you become unwell or out of balance. It’s like looking at the hand of cards you’re dealt for your life: BaZi helps you to become a great player.’

Unsurprisingly, it’s attracting a growing fanbase of celebrity followers: Fearne Cotton, Trinny Woodall and Ian Wright have all enthused about their consultations and the bespoke guidance they have received.

As for me, I feel like I’m sitting opposite a one-woman Wikipedia. Inspirational, candid and charismatic, Katie’s knowledge is all-encompassing. It is impossible not to admire her.

But this sort of experience doesn’t come cheap. Having paid an eye-watering £425 for a one-hour reading, I couldn’t help but slightly question my sanity, especially in the current climate. Then to find out it was via Zoom and not even in person was really disappointing. Post-session however I realise the advantage of a Zoom recording, because most people refer back to their readings several times.

Before my consultation I gave my date and time of birth and also completed a short health questionnaire. I was reluctant initially; I wanted to see if my fate and symptoms were picked up psychically, like a fortune teller. But equally, having shelled out a small fortune for the reading, ultimately I wanted Katie’s answers and advice, and to trust more than test her.

So I shared that I have been suffering with chronic neck pain for the last nine months. I’m also getting scary leg cramps in bed at night.

My biggest problem though is driving myself so relentlessly that I rarely relax; I just can’t seem to stop. I beaver away at 5am writing travel copy for magazines, or working on upcoming schedules for SupercraftCruises.com, the company I started in 2018.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the mornings and getting so much done, but any normal work-life balance is long gone and my husband now watches our favourite TV programmes alone (because I’m still working or comatose on the sofa).

The reading was a total game-changer for me, and well worth the hefty price tag (Picture: Supplied – Julie Peasgood)

Katie takes all this in her stride.

With Sherlock-like diagnostic skills she identifies the root cause of my physical ailments first. Asian medicine will always start with the Chi, our natural life force. My neck pain and leg cramps are both apparently connected to the liver, which controls the free flow of Chi around the body. My liver is not happy: it’s overworked and underpaid.

I am prescribed a Hayo’u castor oil compress (£42) to detoxify my liver. After a quick Google I realise I could make my own, but I decide to treat myself. I’m to strap it round my torso overnight and use her body drumming tool (£38) to release the tension in my neck, shoulders and backs of calves. The Hayo’u products aren’t thrust at me, which is a relief, but I’m definitely swayed by the avalanche of 5-star rave reviews.

I also need to formulate a Major Plan. ‘Your life path needs to be clearly defined,’ Katie tells me. ‘You have a lot of strings to your bow but you’re not sure where to put your focus and you’ve lost direction.’

Having declared that I am part monkey, rat and snake, she points out these animals are all about energy forces rather than the actual animals themselves. ‘They entered the zodiac because back in ancient China they represented a way for people who were uneducated, who worked in the fields, to understand the characteristics each animal represented.

‘It’s not that you’re actually a rat, snake or monkey, it just means that you have these qualities,’ she adds. ‘You’re very busy, intuitive, fast and cunning, but you are also extremely sensitive and vulnerable.’

In other words I’m Curious George meets the Princess and the Pea.

‘Your Yang Fire Monkey is so energised and tries to do so much that it’s got distracted,’ Katie concludes. ‘You’ve got to tame that monkey and get that industrious rat into a plan.’

So my homework is to find my passion, my true calling now as a ‘wise elder’ (I quite like that). I thrive on connecting with people, and Katie predicts a strong future in business, which comes as a surprise as I still see myself as more of an actress and writer than a businesswoman.

She also gives me some practical advice for the allergic rhinitis (dust allergy to you and me) that I’ve suffered with all my life. Known as Halo therapy, it involves me taking two cheap aluminium cooking bowls (because they’re light) and some Epsom salts.

I’m to warm the salts in a frying pan and pour them into one of the bowls. Then I pour one into the other – to create salt powder by using a lot of height – and just breathe it in.

Immediately after my BaZi session I feel a medley of emotions: excited, exhausted and better equipped. I have a plan and I’m working towards a brand new platform. The jury’s still out on the Epsom salts (I burnt the pan) but I do seem to be sneezing less.

Three months on and my plan is gradually taking shape. And although the body drummer isn’t my favourite piece of equipment (I find it a bit heavyweight) the castor oil compress is working wonders. It felt weird at first – and admittedly it’s not the sexiest night-time attire – but if I strap it round my tummy it even helps with bloating, which is a major bonus.

But has my BaZi reading been a game-changer?

I would say yes. It definitely offers an intriguing overview of who we are and the legacy we want to leave behind. In fact, the overriding feeling I am left with is one of empowerment. I’m embracing my inner businesswoman and I feel calmer, centred and more confident.

And, as far as I’m concerned, if your budget will allow, that’s worth an A-lister price tag.

In the Chinese zodiac, 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit.

This sign is associated with peace, prosperity and ingenuity, as well as purity and longevity – which is great news for anyone born in a Rabbit year.

These characteristics stem from the Chinese zodiac’s origin story: legend has it that the Jade Emperor tasked a group of 12 animals to race each other across a river to him.

The order each animal reached the riverbank would determine their place in the calendar, with the Rabbit arriving fourth. Although the bunny had nimbly jumped from stone to stone to get across, it had fallen and been swept away by the current, only to be saved by a floating log that washed it to shore.

This tale typifies the Rabbit’s quick thinking, showing why the sign is linked to alertness and flexibility – even in a crisis.

The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, also splits Rabbit signs into five elements; Water, Wood, Metal, Fire and Earth.  These are said to offer a deeper look into the characteristics of those born in certain years, with the Water Rabbit (2023’s element) representing gentleness alongside a tendency to be taken for granted.

If you were born in the Year of the Rabbit, you may want to find out what your sign’s big moment has in store for you.

We’ve got everything you need to know about how 2023 will play out for these lively hares according to Chinese astrology, from what to expect in love to how to bring yourself a little extra luck.

Rabbit sign birth years

You’re a Rabbit sign if you were born in the following years:

  • 1915
  • 1927
  • 1939
  • 1951
  • 1963
  • 1975
  • 1987
  • 1999
  • 2011
  • 2023

However, if you were born in January, February, or March, you may want to double check your sign using an online calculator. Because the signs change from Chinese New Year onwards, it can catch you out.

Rabbit horoscope for 2023

As 2023 is your sign’s year, Rabbits may think they’ve got an easy 12 months ahead… however, it’s likely to be more challenging than you think.

On their birth years, signs are said to offend Tai Sui, the God of Age in Chinese mythology, meaning big life changes and obstacles lie ahead.

Major events like weddings and starting a business may run into snags, so consider postponing where possible and be on the lookout for potential problems so you can fix them ASAP.

That said, Rabbits are predicted to have a positive year overall, and natives of the sign will be rewarded if they persevere and avoid the tendency to hop to the next thing when times are tough.

Rabbit love horoscope for 2023

In love, the first quarter of the year is set to be very busy indeed for Rabbits. If you’re coupled up, expect a passionate period for you and your partner over the next few months, while singles are predicted to meet a special someone.

The influence of the Water Rabbit means 2023 is a good year for looking at where you’ve been a bit ‘wishy-washy’ in love. Have you taken your partner for granted? Are you worrying about the future and forgetting to be present in the here and now? Make changes to revitalise your romantic outlook.

According to Chinese astrology, married Rabbit natives have had a tough time over the last year or so, and should give couples counselling a go to work through any issues.

Take your time and try to remember that love (either finding it or keeping it) is a marathon, not a sprint. Just like in the fable of the tortoise and the hare, getting ahead of yourself will lead to careless mistakes.

Rabbit work and money horoscope for 2023

The Rabbit is associated with friendliness, and maintaining this amiable attitude will be vital for your career in 2023. Those you connect with throughout the year can offer big opportunities, as well as advice that you shouldn’t ignore.

However, also on the theme of ‘slow and steady wins the race,’ Rabbit natives are advised to put all their energy into current projects, rather than switching to something new (which comes with an added helping of risk).

If you’re in a bit of a rut, the prospect of something new and exciting can be tempting. If the Chinese zodiac is anything to go by, though, it’s worth remembering that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Diligence and patience will pay off with a bonus or promotion as the year goes on, making all the hard work worth it – just make sure not to overspend or invest in anything hastily.

It’s also predicted that Rabbits may come into money they thought they’d previously lost, but they should plan for the future rather than wasting it on impulsive buys.

Lucky dates, numbers and talismans for Rabbit signs

Lucky days: Times when luck is smiling down on Rabbit natives include the 26th, 27th, and 29th of each Chinese lunar month, with the 1st, 4th, 8th, and 11th lunar months (Zhēngyuè, Huáiyuè, Guìyuè, and Dōngyuè) bearing particular significance.

Lucky numbers: A Rabbit’s lucky numbers are 3, 4, and 6 – and this includes longer numbers containing these digits, like 34 and 63.

Lucky colours: Red, pink, purple and blue are said to be lucky for Rabbit natives. You’re advised to wear red underwear and socks when you need extra good fortune.

For 2023 specifically, forest green or azure blue are said to be lucky colours, with Feng Shui experts claiming the hues embody the Water Rabbit’s energy.

Lucky charms: As well as yellow citrine and red agate charms Rabbit natives can boost their luck in 2023 placing green plants in the north and west of their homes. This is the direction of Tai Sui, and the offering is said to appease the God and bring good luck to the whole family.

Happy New Year Chinese Rabbit 2023
2023 is the year of the Water Rabbit (Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto)

With Chinese New Year starting on Sunday January 22, people around the world will be getting ready to celebrate.

It also marks the start of a new season within the Chinese zodiac, with 2023 being hailed as the year of the Rabbit.

Within this form of astrology, each year is represented by a different animal, with those born within the signs said to share certain traits.

There are also classifications associated with the signs that change on a rolling basis – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water, which is this year’s element.

But what does all this mean in practice?

For those not familiar with the Chinese zodiac, here’s everything you need to know about the year of the Water Rabbit – and what it means for your plans.

Years of the Rabbit

You are likely to be a Rabbit native if you were born in the following years:

  • 1927
  • 1939

Rabbit personality traits

The Chinese zodiac is said to stem from an old proverb called The Great Race. As the story goes, the Jade Emperor tasked a group of animals to get across a flowing river. The order they arrived in would determine their place on the calendar.

The Rabbit came fourth, nimbly jumping from one stone to another and grabbing a floating log to make it to shore when it fell. As such, the animal is associated with a patient and calm approach.

However, this rationality is tempered by the fact the rabbit could potentially have come first but was hampered by arrogance. It was so confident in it’s speed that it took a nap, only to realise others had made it across when it awoke.

Although the Rabbit is perceived as polite and peaceful, natives of the sign harbour a quiet sense of ambition. They must be careful to avoid their kindness being taken as weakness, while keeping perspective on what’s achievable.

Rabbit natives are said to be steady and cautious on their journey towards their goals, but dislike routine or monotony in their lives. Though they think before they leap, they need spontaneity to ensure they don’t lose interest.

In their career, these reasoning skills and attention to detail will make them invaluable – especially in academia or high pressure roles. Their innate empathy also allows them to thrive in social situations and in the creative industries.

The Water Rabbit in particular is linked to style and beauty, so may be suited to roles within fashion or art (although this may manifest in the way someone dresses or decorates their home).

The Rabbit’s biggest issue is insecurity, so natives of the sign should surround themselves with supportive people and practice self care.

Rabbit compatibility

According to the Chinese zodiac, the signs most compatible with the Rabbit are the Dog, Pig, and Goat.

Rabbit and Dog natives both appreciate a quiet life, prioritising loyalty and lack of conflict in their relationships. This makes them a great match.

The Pig is known for its bluntness and love of comfort, which perfectly compliments the rabbit. There will be no ambiguity in this partnership, and a direct approach will bolster their connection.

Goat natives share the Rabbit’s creative outlook, and the Goat’s need for stability matches well with the bunny sign’s love of taking care of people.

Year of the Rabbit horoscope

Those born in the Year of the Rabbit share characteristics, but Chinese astrology dictates that it impacts how the year will shape up too.

Because the Rabbit is known for its ability to create lasting relationships, 2023 is set to be a big one socially. That means networking, deepening connections with existing friends and partners, and using people skills to hit new heights.

More Trending

The Rabbit also represents prosperity, which signals it’s a great time to focus on careers and building income. All signs should consider taking on a side hustle, going for a promotion, or wisely investing to grow their wealth.

Wise a key word here, and it’s important for people to look to the Rabbit and exercise caution in decisions. Be vigilant, as scams may get the better of you otherwise.

The creativity of the Water Rabbit makes it a fantastic year for branching out and learning new skills – especially in the arts. Tap into that energy and opportunity may just knock.

Chinese New Year takes place this weekend (January 22), ushering in the Year of the Rabbit.

The Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, is made up of 12 signs, each represented by a different animal.

Every year is assigned one of these animals, and the ancient form of astrology dictates that the sign you’re born under impacts a person’s traits and even their life trajectory.

The Rat, for example, is the first sign, encompassing quick-wittedness, resourcefulness and versatility. The Tiger signifies bravery and spontaneity, while the Dog is all about loyalty and honesty.

There are also subsections within these signs, represented by elements: Water, Wood, Metal, and Earth. These are said to offer a deeper look into the characteristics of those born in certain years.

As it’s the beginning of a New Year in the lunisolar calendar, you may be wondering what’s in store for your 2023.

Look to the Chinese zodiac for answers – and don’t forget to wear red for good luck.

The year of the Water Rabbit – which represents kindness and compassion – means 2023 could be a good year for those born in years of the Rat.

These traits compliment the Rat’s quick wit and determination well, and they should find the next 12 months filled with supportive energy from those around them.

It’s predicted that Rat natives will attract good fortune and prosperity, but will need to be prudent and carefully calculate any risks before taking them.

Observance is a key trait that’ll help this sign navigate setbacks wisely. This may also play out in health and love, where Rats are advised to trust their natural instincts.

Financially, 2023 is a good year for Ox natives, as the social energy of the Rabbit allows for career progression and moving up the ranks.

It’s important for those born under this sign to show gratitude to their supporters during challenges and avoid showing off or becoming arrogant – this may scupper the good fortune smiling upon you.

In terms of love, Oxen in relationships are advised to strengthen their bonds with some (albeit uncharacteristic) romance. Single Ox natives may attract a flurry of romantic attention as the year goes on, so get ready for passion.

Tiger Chinese horoscope for 2023

Year of birth: 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022

Due to the opposite natures of the Tiger and the Rabbit, 2023 may be a challenging one for the brave big cats.

As the Rabbit thrives on stability, Tiger natives are predicted to have a fight on their hands when it comes to making the changes they crave. They may be set to make more money than in previous years, but health problems and unexpected expenses may eat into this.

Romantic and career opportunities will be abundant for those born under this sign, but Tiger natives are advised to avoid drama and impulsivity to make the most of them – let your natural confidence shine through in decisions, but use that bunny energy and look before you leap.

It’s your year, Rabbit natives. This doesn’t necessarily mean good luck, but those under this sign should see positive changes in the coming year.

The Chinese zodiac predicts steady growth for Rabbits in their relationships and careers. These natives are advised to tap into their innate patience and allow hard work to gradually pay off, as well as saving for rainy days (as there may be periods where money is tight).

In love, coupled-up Rabbit signs should find their connection to their partner deepening. However, they should avoid unrealistic expectations about what a relationship should be, as this could cause problems. Single Rabbits may find ‘the one’ in 2023, though caution is advised before committing too quickly.

Dragon Chinese horoscope for 2023

It’s set to be a lucky year for Dragon natives according to Chinese astrology – particularly in their romantic lives.

Those in relationships are predicted to reach a turning point with their partners at some point in 2023, either moving forward or fizzling out. Single Dragons will also have romantic choices to make, so being open and honest about what they want is imperative.

While the Dragon is associated with adventurous spirit, they can have issues with laziness. The supportive energy of the Rabbit means they have the potential to thrive in their careers this year, but proactivity is required to bring that potential to life.

Snake Chinese horoscope for 2023

The sixth sign in the Chinese zodiac is the Snake, considered to embody intuition and natural intelligence.

2023 is set to be a big year for Snake natives, particularly in the career and financial spheres. Although their logical outlook and determined attitude will make them a force to be reckoned with, they may need to step out of their comfort zone and take risks – particularly in the next few months. It may be scary, but luck is on the Snake’s side.

This period will also be transformative in Snake love lives, as partnered natives of this sign settle down and single serpents make passionate connections.

Predictions state it’ll be a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but if natives of this sign can temper their caution with openness and confidence, they’ll flourish.

The year of the Water Rabbit envelops Horse natives in support, with relationships growing in intensity over the next few weeks and the confidence to forge deeper connections as the months go on.

The Horse is energetic but can have a tendency to lose interest in things quickly, so those born under this sign should be careful to avoid excitement getting the better of them.

That said, they shouldn’t lose their positive outlook, as this will help them make it through ups and downs (particularly money-wise, there could be both good times and bad). It’s predicted that Horse natives will feel reinvigorated in all areas of life, making it an excellent time to learn a new skill, take up a new hobby or start a side hustle.

Sheep Chinese horoscope for 2023

The Sheep is also sometimes known as the Goat (Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto)

The Sheep is experiencing a particularly lucky year, with the luck of the Water Rabbit signalling social, romantic, and financial success.

In love, Sheep natives should expect a more stable outlook after a few years of turbulence. Disputes will be quickly settled, and any issues that do crop up in relationships will see this sign coming back stronger than before.

But it’s the world of careers where those born under the Sheep will strike it lucky in a big way in 2023. The summer months promise opportunities galore, though this will also bring new responsibilities.

This sign should use their characteristic seriousness to build a steady foundation ahead of these changes, learning more and analysing how to reach their goals. Bonuses and pay increases are predicted – just make sure you put some of this money away for the future.

Although the Monkey and Rabbit are astrological opposites, the primate’s wiliness and curiosity help them get out of sticky situations.

In spite of challenges, 2023 is predicted to be a positive one. Monkey natives will be faced with big decisions, so their innate resourcefulness will be in high demand. Those carrying the sign should embrace their cheeky side, as great things can happen if they avoid getting bogged down by overthinking.

Things may get messy in the romance department – there could even be a love triangle on the cards. Expect mixed signals, new developments, and crossed wires – these things may be confusing in the moment, but the aftermath (if the Monkey native keeps their cool) will be partnerships that fulfil and excite you.

In contrast to the Rabbit’s gentle consistence, the Rooster is typified by creativity and boldness (sometimes to the point of showing off).

This antithesis can lead to inner conflict for Rooster natives this year, as they battle with their instincts and the correct course of action. In careers, it’s predicted to be busy, so Roosters should aim to manage expectations and not overstretch themselves.

Unpredictability is also a theme in love for Rooster natives in 2023. New friends and crushes have the potential to shake things up, but if they exercise the Rabbit’s caution before making decisions, everything should pan out.

Dog Chinese horoscope for 2023

The Dog is a sign that knows how to appreciate the little things, and their year will be enhanced if they take advantage of positive events coming their way.

Chinese astrology signals potential misunderstandings in relationships in spring, along with social drama around summer. The Dog’s loyalty can mean natives of the sign struggle with the idea of letting people down. They’ll do best if they ignore that pressure and focus on their own needs, tuning out the background noise.

Unexpected financial boosts are also on the horizon, and Dog natives should keep an eye out for collaboration opportunities that may prove lucrative.

The Pig is the last sign in the Chinese zodiac, predicted to have an auspicious year of the Water Rabbit.

After a tough time, Pig natives are set to finally get some recognition at work. They will need to retain their usual reliable and calm demeanour, yet in turn will be rewarded as those around them take notice of their talent.

Those in this sign will find happiness in relationships by showing gratitude to their partner and making them feel appreciated. If conflict arises, this will stand Pig signs in good stead. Unattached people born in this sign should watch out for a steamy fling – put in the effort and it could become a real love story.

It may also be worth taking up meditation or some form of self care, as this is one little Piggy who will need to de-stress in 2023.
