Nicole Kidman’s unsettling new thriller is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, as the incredibly busy star’s latest release.

Added today, Holland — which Oscar-winner Kidman also produced — calls itself ‘wildly unpredictable’ and premiered at SXSW in early March as an original movie for the streamer.

It co-stars Matthew Macfadyen and Gael García Bernal, and tells the story of meticulous Nancy Vandergroot (Kidman), a teacher and homemaker who shares a picture-perfect life with her community pillar husband (Macfadyen) and son (Jude Hill) in tulip-filled Holland, Michigan.

However, things take a turn into more twisted territory after Nancy and her colleague (Bernal) become suspicious of a secret, only to discover nothing in their lives is what it seems.

Holland, which comes hot on the heels of movies like Babygirl, A Family Affair and Spellbound, as well as Expats and The Perfect Couple on TV for Kidman, has had something of a bumpy ride with critics so far.

It’s only managed to muster a score of just 35% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, with IndieWire claiming: ‘There’s a decent movie in here somewhere, but you’d be digging up a lot of tulips to get to it.’

Matt Donato for Daily Dead added: ‘It’s baffling how such a talented cast and crew can be attached to such a wreck, but here we are. The award for 2025’s most disappointing release has a clear frontrunner.’

Elsewhere the Mimi Cave-directed film was also called ‘deadly dull’ and ‘a massive disappointment’.

But some critics disagreed, pointing to a twist at the end and the movie getting to some ‘squirmy places’.

‘The big reveal will be seared into my brain for years to come — and I will never look at a Pomeranian the same way again. A slowburn, but that moment is absolutely worth the wait,’ insisted critic Tessa Smith.

Kidman’s ‘zany’ performance is also praised elsewhere, with Variety calling the film’s point of view ‘fun one for those who like teetering in that is-she-crazy-or-is-she-the-only-sane-person-here zone’.

‘Holland is one of those films that refuses to be placed in a box — and takes a special, sadistic pleasure in putting the audience through it,’ suggested The Standard’s review.

The film, which has had mixed reactions from critics, also stars Gael García Bernal (R) and Matthew Macfadyen (Picture: Prime Video)

‘Many good twists and it’ll stress you out in a good way. I’d rate it 85/100,’ he suggested.

Meanwhile Demise L complained that ‘scene after scene was ridiculous’ and added: ‘Throughout the movie I laughed out loud at how absurd each scene played.’

Holland is streaming now on Prime Video.
