Martin Compston has teased the future of Line of Duty and it’s good news for the fans.
The actor has predicted that the BBC drama will get a series seven at some point.
‘We are all quite busy but I’m sure you will get to it at some point,’ Martin replied when questioned about its future on the Lorraine show.
‘We don’t want to get people’s hopes up. I’m sure there are ideas though.’
However, Martin (DI Steve Arnott) said just days ago that there is nothing in the immediate future. ‘There’s nothing coming soon’ were his exact words.
The actor did quickly add that despite this he still enjoys people always asking about the show’s return.
‘It will be a sad day when people stop asking about Line Of Duty. I appreciate that people want it back,’ he told The Sun.
Martin also highlighted that the cast is booked and busy, which adds a bit of a barrier as it’s difficult to get everyone free at the same time.
‘It’s just a case of… one of the great benefits of that show is that it’s given us great careers outside of it,’ he explained.
‘I just started my new show yesterday [the thriller Red Eye], so I’m filming in London and Vicky [McClure]’s working on Trigger Point.’
At least there was a mini-reunion of sorts over the weekend as Vicky, 41, (DI Kate Fleming) and Martin, 40, got up on stage at the Brits to present the international artist of the year to Chappell Roan.
Martin also recently met up with writer Jed Mercurio in Las Vegas. He told the publication that the whole group remain very close so naturally they’d be ‘gutted’ if anyone was killed off in a potential reboot.
When it was pointed out that series seven should be soon as Hastings is nearing retirement, Martin laughed and warned to ‘not f*****g say that’ to Adrian Dunbar, 66, who plays Supt Ted Hastings.
‘To be fair, Ted Hastings has been retiring since series three,’ he continued.
‘Believe me, there’s life in the old dog yet. He’s one of my great friends and he’s one of the most energetic people I know.’
Just last month, Christina Chong, who starred as DI Nicky Rogerson hinted she’d been asked to partake in new material.

Viewers were totally hooked for six series, and, at one point, the show, centred on anti-corruption unit AC-12, became the highest-rated series on BBC Two in 10 years.
The last episode of season six in 2021, which revealed the identity of the mysterious antagonist ‘H’, was watched by an estimated 16.44 million people.
