Upset TV viewers have branded Bill Murray ‘gross’ for kissing Naomi Watts during a joint appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

The pair recently starred in The Friend together, and were on the Bravo show on Monday night to promote the sweet flick, which was released in US cinemas last month before a UK premiere at the end of April.

However, things quickly took a turn during a Q&A segment with the audience, when the 56-year-old was questioned over the best kiss of her career.

Before she could answer, the camera panned from host Andy Cohen to his guests, showing 74-year-old Bill tipping his castmate’s head back and kissing her on the mouth.

As the audience loudly screamed over the bizarre moment, the Mulholland Drive actress kept her head in her hands and shook it, while Bill – who was previously linked to Kelis – stared straight at the camera.

‘You’ve got lipstick on your face,’ Naomi laughed, before asking if she went ‘red’ over the shock moment.

‘That was too easy,’ her co-star insisted. ‘That was way too easy.’

According to Decider, she then took the opportunity to answer the question herself, adding: ‘Well, of course, it’s Billy Crudup, my husband.’

Viewers were incensed by Bill’s actions and flocked to social media to unpack the scene, with many branding it ‘disgusting’.

Reddit user Classic-Carpet7609 fumed: ‘Jesus, the death grip on her face. Poor Naomi.’

TenPotential commented: ‘Ummmm thats gross wtf lol [sic].’

‘His smug face and Andy laughing…beyond gross,’ Morethansad agreed.

TechnicalDark9211 penned: ‘I saw it in shock. So disrespectful wtf?’

Vanitaa3 wrote: ‘How gross and horrifying. Andy saying “yes” and “so good”, ugh just awful.’

‘I was in utter shock! I felt so bad for her,’ RealityShizz added.

Naomi has yet to speak out over the kiss, but has been active on social media and shared other videos from the WWHL episode on her Instagram story.

Andy also posted a video from the program on his own Instagram page but offered no comment on the reaction, while Bill has not addressed the backlash publicly.

Naomi is currently married to Billy – the pair grew close while filming psychological thriller series Gypsy in 2017.

They walked down the aisle in June 2023, before celebrating their connection in a second ceremony in Mexico last year.

She also shares children Sasha and Kai with ex-husband Liv Schreiber, who she split with in 2016 after 11 years of dating.

Bill was previously linked to singer Kelis in 2023, but recently poured cold water on any romance rumors during an appearance on SiriusXM in March, insisting there was no truth to the speculation.

Metro has contacted reps for Bill and Naomi for a comment.

During an episode of The One Show, Sally Phillips accidentally let a swear word slip live on air.

The star, 54, is best known for comedic appearances in TV and films such as Bridget Jones, Smack the Pony, and Veep is set to appear on the new BBC series Austin.

Appearing alongside her Austin co-star,  Ben Miller, 59, the star appeared on The One Show to discuss their upcoming series.

The pair discussed their co-star Michael Theo and Sally revealed: ‘We did have a word with each other early on, we were like “Oh s**t. S**t he’s really good. We’re going to have to raise our game.’

As the story continued, Lauren Laverne realised the mistake and then apologised for the ‘fruity language’.

‘We should just apologise guys, for any fruity language, sorry about that.’

Ben and Sally immediately looked at one another and burst out laughing as they realised that Sally had sworn live on air.

Lauren then told co-host Alex Jones, ‘It wasn’t you Alex,’ who looked rather confused as she appeared to have missed the bad language.

‘I think it might have been me, yes I’ll take it,’ joked Claudia Winkleman who was also on the couch alongside the singer Mika.

Claudia gave a nod to Sally as she jokingly took the blame for the on-air swear.

During their appearance on the BBC series, Sally and Ben spoke about the importance of their new TV show, which focuses on neurodiversity.

The series follows Julian (Ben), a newly-cancelled author on a book tour in Canberra, who discovers that he has a 28-year-old son named Austin.

Julian and his wife, Ingrid (Sally), then get to know Austin, who is neurodiverse and has tracked down his father in hopes of forming a connection.

In conversation about the series with Metro, Sally revealed: ‘I think disabled representation, it’s definitely been the poor cousin of race and gender. Also, disability hate crime is the one hate crime that is rising,’ she said.

‘And I really firmly believe in the power of especially television, weirdly, more than cinema, because with TV, you’re turning up in people’s homes.’

Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash on the red carpet

Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash’s TV series Stacey & Joe kicks off tonight and shows what the couple is really like behind closed doors.

Stacey is known for being a Loose Women panellist and clearing up clutter on BBC’s Sort Your Life Out.

Anyone who follows her on Instagram will know that she’s qualified after spending the last few years on a one-woman mission to make Pickle Cottage even more beautiful, armed with a paintbrush, a glue gun, and a dream.

It’s been quite the journey for Stacey with her public life beginning on The X Factor in 2009, and taking her to Loose Women, before starting a new chapter as a social media star, and TV’s hottest property.

Let’s take a look at her life outside of TV, and her career so far…

Stacey Solomon’s home

Stacey and her husband Joe Swash, 42, moved into their incredible house, reportedly worth over £ 1 million, in 2021.

Home Sweet Home And so a new chapter begins We can not even describe how strange it feels that this is home. Never in a million years did we ever think this would be. We feel so lucky and are so grateful to have found this hidden treasure closer to our family and further out. We can?t wait to fill it with love and give it our everything. To raise our family here. And to just start a fresh. I?m very emotional for some reason. It still hasn?t sunk in and doesn?t quite feel real. Thank you for all of your supportive, kind, loving messages. We love you to the moon and back and I can?t wait to show you around... Here?s to the next chapter in pickle cottage

The Essex abode, which is surrounded by over two acres of land, was sweetly named after Stacey’s nickname for her children, and she’s made the space perfect for her family’s needs.

She may be doing well for herself but that hasn’t stopped Stacey from getting her hands dirty with some DIY. For every project, she has documented the process on Instagram, or in her book, Tap to Tidy. We’ve seen her jet wash her swimming pool area, stencil her children’s rooms, and even surprise Joe with his own ‘den’. We’re just wondering when Stacey sleeps.

She doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon either, recently confessing: ‘I don’t think I’ll ever be done DIYing… Although don’t tell Joe that. It’s almost therapeutic for me.’

Happy 40th Birthday DADDY We hope you had the best birthday ever and we can?t wait to make memories with you forever in your Den? You?re always doing everything you can to make us happy so making your man cave was just the best project ever. You mean everything to us. You?re the best dad, best friend & fianc? we could ever wish for. To the moon and back Joe, Always Now let?s get married

After months of getting everything to their taste, Pickle Cottage was used as a venue for a special occasion…

Stacey Solomon’s family life

On July 24 2022, Joe and Stacey said ‘I do’ in front of their loved ones after seven years of dating at the place they feel happiest.

Announcing their nuptials, Stacey wrote: ‘🕊Forever 🕊 Me and My Husband 😭 I don’t think I will ever get used to saying that. It all feels like a dream.’

She then quoted Dr. Suess: ‘You know you’re in love when you don’t want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.’

Stacey describes herself as a proud mum of five (Picture: Stacey Solomon/Instagram)

On their wedding date, the couple already had two children together Rex, five, and Rose, three, but there was an extra guest in Stacey’s stomach unbeknownst to them. Although it was a surprise, they couldn’t have been happier.

‘So grateful & can not believe I’m saying this… Another little pickle is on the way… 😭 A HUGE surprise, but one that we are so thankful for,’ wrote Stacey.

Belle was born in February 2023, with Stacey sharing: ‘We can’t wait to love you forever and ever we are so grateful we get to be your family.’

Their three children together also have older siblings – Stacey’s sons Zachary, 17, Leighton, 12, and Joe’s son Harry, 16 – making up their beautiful blended family.

There are two more beloved members of their clan – pups Teddy and Peanut.

The pups are part of the family (Picture: Stacey Solomon/Instagram)

Also in her tight-knit family is her sister Jemma Solomon, who runs the business The Label Laby, which was invested in by Lord Alan Sugar. Stacey can often be seen attaching her sister’s items to her pantry jars.

Stacey has a very useful family as her other sister, Samantha Stone is a personal trainer, who has been helping her utilise Pickle Cottage’s garage gym, while her dad David Solomon is a photographer and often captures beautiful family photos which Stacey shares with her 5.9 million followers on Instagram.

Stacey Solomon’s journey from The X Factor to TV star

Stacey first burst onto our screens in 2009 on the talent competition, The X Factor, where she made it to the final. From the moment she told Simon Cowell ‘Hiya’, British TV was forever changed.

When asked if she was good at singing, our humble Queen replied: ‘I hope so, you may not think so.’ Stacey, then 19, got four yeses from judges Simon, Louis Walsh, Danni Osbourne and Cheryl Cole, after singing What A Wonderful World.

Although her vocal range was impressive, her personality shone equally as bright leading to more TV work.

At the time, Stacey was a single mum after having her first child as a teenager. Speaking about becoming a parent at a young age, she said: ‘I haven’t done anything that thousands haven’t done’ and spoke of her privilege of having such a supportive family.

She now ‘barely remembers’ life before motherhood, but does remember the judgements she’d get.

‘I do remember all of the looks I’d get & all of the things that people would say when they saw a “child raising a child”. I can’t believe I am now a mummy of 5,’ she wrote on Instagram.

She continued in the defiant caption: ‘And all I can say is, not one of those judgments or opinions back then were true.

‘No matter how real they felt I look at each of them now and I have never felt so proud. They are the kindest most amazing people and I was a part of that.’

The following year, she appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here and became Queen of the Jungle. The person who placed the crown on her head was none other than her future husband, Joe, as he was the reigning champ.

She went on to appear on The Jump, where celebrities learnt winter sports (and Stacey ended up in a relationship with Jackass co-star, Steve-O – the streets never forget), and was eventual host of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Extra Camp – a spin-off of the main show.

By 2016, she was a regular panellist on Loose Women, where she used that platform to create her own personal brand on social media.

She is currently the most-followed ITV presenter, with followers enjoying insights into her life as a mum-of-five, her friendship with fellow influencer Mrs Hinch, and watching her organise every inch of her home. A 60-second reel of Stacey restocking the snack cupboard is surprisingly entertaining, and we won’t be told otherwise.

Stacey often uses Instagram to celebrate small businesses and has recently begun investing her own money into them. She began with Rehab, who sell vegan and cruelty-free hair products. Someone needs to get Stacey on Dragons’ Den – she’s certainly got the funds as it was recently reported she’s almost taking home the average yearly salary of UK residents every single week, a whopping £27,000.

Although Stacey occasionally pops up on Loose Women, she’s mainly focused on her own shows, including Sort Your Life Out, which has won a Royal Television Society award, Crafty Christmas, and her 2024 offering, Stacey Solomon’s Renovation Rescue.

In an interview with The Mirror ahead of the new TV series, Stacey shared that she was excited to make this show so they can show the footage to their children.

‘This is such a lovely family album to have. In years to come, when the kids are getting married, we’ll have so much footage to show them what they were like,’ said Joe.

Stacey also teased that the show is set to be a very honest reflection of their relationship.

‘What you see is what you get,’ said Stacey. ‘What we’ve learnt about each other is that we’re not a perfect couple. We’ve never said we’re a perfect couple, but you get to watch yourself back, which is something that doesn’t happen often.’

Stacey & Joe begins tonight at 8pm on BBC One.

Fans can’t rave enough about the ‘masterpiece’ (Picture: BBC Picture Archives)

A TV show that’s been described as one of the ‘best crime dramas ever’ is completely free to watch on a UK streamer – and fans can’t rave enough about it.

First premiering in 2017, Snowfall is a series that follows the crack epidemic of the 1980s in Los Angeles.

It marked the breakout role of British actor Damson Idris, who played a 20-year-old drug kingpin, while also starring Carter Hudson, Angela Lewis, Isaiah John, Amin Joseph and Emily Rios in the cast.

Snowfall – which is available to stream in its entirety on BBC iPlayer – aired for six seasons until the final episode was released in April 2023, with a spin-off also in the works.

Several fans of the drama have enthused about it on social media, with one Reddit user called Brungala saying that after finally finishing all six seasons, they believe it ‘might be one of the best crime stories I’ve ever watched in recent memory’.

‘After finishing the series finale, I was left with a feeling of emptiness. But the kind that you experience when you just finished watching something so good, and as it ends, you might not find something as gripping and engaging to binge for a while,’ they wrote.

What are some of the best crime dramas on streamers right now?

If you’re a fan of crime dramas, there are plenty of offerings available to watch on streamers that you can binge right now.

For starters, the second season of Black Snow, an Australian crime drama starring Vikings actor Travis Fimmel, is coming to BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on Friday April 4.

The series follows a detective called James Cormack who is tasked with investigating a cold case murder, and has been described as a ‘hugely compelling mystery’.

The Missing, an anthology series that first started airing on BBC One in 2014, is leaving Netflix very soon.

Starring James Nesbitt as a man who suffers the devastation of his son going missing, the show has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

There are also plenty of police dramas on streaming platforms that you can watch at your leisure, some of which are regarded by viewers as even better than Line of Duty.

They include Happy Valley on BBC iPlayer and Protection on ITVX, with the latter recently receiving rave reviews from audiences as the new series airs.

‘The show has some of the best writing I’ve seen in years, and while some episodes of prior seasons fall a little short, it’s still really good, as it kept me wanting to see what happens next.’

In response, Interesting-Run-5497 agreed that Snowfall was a brilliant watch, saying that ti was ‘probably one of their favourite crime dramas after Breaking Bad, Justified, Ozark, Narcos and Banshee’.

Several people who have been singing Snowfall’s praises on social media emphasised that not only is it a great watch throughout, but it ‘wrapped up perfectly’ by the final episode.

‘The ending is totally unexpected and brilliantly done. In fact, that entire final season is both cinematically and narratively amazing,’ Complete-Meaning652 said.

Reddit user chill90ies labelled it a ‘masterpiece’ saying that it is ‘one of the best shows I have seen in many years’.

A number of fans also compared Snowfall to other shows regarded as the best crime dramas ever shown on TV, including The Wire, The Sopranos and Breaking Bad.

‘Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are sort of in a separate category in my mind, like how can you really compare anything to those shows, but I would personally say Snowfall is “as good” as both of them,’ NAlaxbro stated.

‘Probably my favourite show of all time,’ simplycari shared.

The adulation continued in the show’s Google reviews, with Mounzer writing that being a ‘perennial watcher of mob/gang TV series’, they thought that the genre ‘could no longer tell us something that we didn’t already know, nor provide an original take that rises to the heights of such masterpieces of television’.

‘But I was wrong. Snowfall matches, if not exceeds the very best of these, in terms of narrative power, acting quality, historical/political perspective, empathy and passion,’ they continued.

Tara exclaimed that Snowfall was ‘by the far the absolute best series I’ve ever watched’ and made them feel ‘every emotion possible’, while Greg added that it was ‘one of the best shows to come out on television ever’.

‘The show is a must watch! I could rant all day about it,’ they added.

Consider us sold!

Snowfall is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Amazon Prime’s new comedy series, Last One Laughing UK, has made a case for itself to be added to the canon of classic TV less than two weeks after it debuted.

Hosted by Jimmy Carr and special guest Roisin Conaty, the reality show has broken the streamer’s records as one of its biggest UK launches ever, with the first episode watched nearly 3 million times.

For the uninitiated, the six-parter features 10 comics desperately battling to keep a straight face: Bob Mortimer, Daisy May CooperJoe LycettJudi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, Harriet Kemsley, and Richard Ayoade.

They must not, under any circumstance, laugh; even when their poker faces are tested through a series of unhinged challenges. If they do, they are eliminated from the competition until there is one comedian standing.

The format has proved a hit with viewers, with X user @alanturnerr among those branding Last One Laughing as a comic masterpiece: ‘Last one laughing UK is one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. Haven’t laughed at TV like this in years.’

Jon Richardson has revealed a new career move after joking he’s quitting comedy.

The stand-up comedian and TV star, 42, revealed in an Instagram video yesterday that taking a break from the industry made him realise he wants to stay away from the limelight, and after reading a diary entry from 1997 he’s ready to pursue his dream of becoming a teacher.

‘I’ve loved being a comedian, it was absolutely the right choice. But I’ve decided that it would’ve been nice to try the other option, so that’s exactly what I’m gonna do,’ he shared in a video with his 187k followers.

Jon told fans he’s been training and taken on a teaching position, and was showered in support from fans and friends alike, but it has now been confirmed that he is in fact just starring in Waterloo Road.

The move will add to his various TV appearances, but even if he did plan a move to into the public sector, according to reports, Jon has a small fortune to fall back on.

What is Jon Richardson’s net worth?

As per celebritynetworth.com, his net worth stands at $5,000,000 (£3,869,000).

How did Jon Richardson earn his huge fortune?

Jon soared to fame after winning his heat of the BBC New Talent Comedy Search in 2003, before reaching the semi-finals of the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year competition the following year.

His first performance at the Criterion Theatre in London’s West End received glowing reviews, and just a few years later, after touring with Alan Carr, Jon’s first solo Edinburgh Fringe show, Spatula Pad, earned him a Best Newcomer nomination at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

In 2008, he won the Chortle Award for Best Breakthrough Act, and took it around the country for his first solo tour.

Following his stand-up success, Jon hit screens in various programmes, from Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You to taking over as a team captain from Jason Manford on 8 Out of 10 Cats.

He’s also published a book, It’s Not Me, It’s You, and presented Channel 4 documentary A Little Bit OCD in 2012, and has hosted various radio shows.

Around the same time, Jon revealed he had bought his mum a house in the Lake District.

As well as his own TV and radio appearances, Jon has appeared in mockumentary sitcom alongside his now-ex-wife Lucy Beaumont, Meet The Richardsons, with the former couple also fronting their series Jon & Lucy’s Odd Couples, which launched in January 2023.

The pair, who share one daughter together, announced last year that they were divorcing after nine years of marriage, and have since remained tight-lipped about their relationship breaking down.

It emerged last year that Jon had agreed to a seven-figure payout to Lucy after buying shares from her when she stepped down as director of their company, This Guy At Night Limited.

Jon is still holds the role of director in the company, which, according to Companies House, held shareholders’ funds of £3,950,140 in November 2023.

Lucy stepped down as a director last June, with Jon paying her £1,625,000 for her shares and a further £8,125 in Stamp Duty costs.

According to MailOnline, before their split, the couple’s company raked in £32,000 a week, and reportedly amassed a £6million fortune.

In October, Hullraisers stars Lucy admitted in an interview with The Guardian that her ‘biggest disappointment’ was ‘that money doesn’t buy happiness’.

When asked when she was happiest, she said: ‘I remember going to my auntie Pauline’s house in winter when I was eight or nine and she made me a roast beef sandwich. I ate it and fell asleep next to a fire. I felt like a cat, fed and left to nap.’

This Morning star backtracks after being slammed for ‘poor taste’ April Fool’s pregnancy prank https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/01/this-morning-star-backtracks-slammed-poor-taste-april-fools-pregnancy-prank-22829826/ https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/01/this-morning-star-backtracks-slammed-poor-taste-april-fools-pregnancy-prank-22829826/#respond Tue, 01 Apr 2025 15:49:39 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=22829826

A This Morning star has been slammed after she pretended to be pregnant.

Georgina Burnett, 46, was formerly a weather presenter and news reporter, but is now best known for working on ITV’s flagship breakfast programme where she shares DIY and home improvement tips.

She is also a regular presenter at the Ideal Home Show and Grand Designs Live.

However, she’s drawn criticism today after posting what appeared to be a fake pregnancy announcement.

Earlier today she shared a black and white photo of herself by a staircase on Instagram, which showed her face obstructed while she looked down on and held her stomach.

She captioned the post ‘News!’, with many quickly rushing to question if she was expecting.

She posted this earlier today before indicating it was an April Fool’s prank (Picture: Georgina Burnett/ Instagram)

But after she started commenting on some comments with a wink face emoji, others pointed out the date and indicated she may be making an April Fool’s joke, saying her actions were ‘insensitive’ if it was a prank.

‘Not funny if this is an April Fool’s joke,’ one person commented.

‘As a grown adult you actually think this is funny? Embarrassing,’ someone else shared.

‘I’m sure you’ve meant no offence, but this is in incredibly poor taste,’ another added.

Meanwhile another follower wrote: ‘This is deeply hurtful to the huge number of women suffering with infertility. Did you know 1/4 of pregnancies end in miscarriage and 1/6 of couples have trouble falling pregnant? You would do well to consider this before making “jokes” about such sensitive topics in the future.’

As other negative comments calling her out starting coming through, Georgina deleted the post.

She’s since added a post wishing her cat Dexter a happy birthday.

Just a few days ago she posted the following on social media: ‘I only have 2 children but ended up with 4 Mother’s Day cards so I’m feeling very blessed today. There isn’t a day that goes by (even on those days!) that I’m not immensely grateful for my kids. My heart goes out to anyone feeling sad for any reason today as I’ve been there xxx.’

It was on Valentine’s Day in 2023 she also announced she’d split from her husband Andy Flawn after more than 20 years together.

She announced her split from her husband in 2023 (Picture: Ken McKay/ ITV/ Rex/ Shutterstock)

‘It’s time for me to share some personal news for a change. Something I’ve been dealing with this past year is my marriage splitting up,’ she wrote.

‘Never easy for anyone, especially the kids, but don’t worry, I’m not alone today and I’m excited about my next happier chapter and making the most of my life as a very fortunate single mum.’

Some other April Fool’s jokes today have also fallen flat, with Lorraine viewers saying a prank in which she was ‘given a tattoo’ in honour of her granddaughter Billie saw her name spelt wrong.

Pretending to storm off set after the ‘mistake’ was pointed out, Lorraine’s prank was called ‘cringeworthy’.

Metro has contacted Georgina Burnett for comment.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.

Gogglebox is pointless without Mary and Giles’ outdated politics https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/01/gogglebox-pointless-without-mary-giles-outdated-politics-22830951/ https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/01/gogglebox-pointless-without-mary-giles-outdated-politics-22830951/#respond Tue, 01 Apr 2025 15:41:16 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=22830951
Mary and Giles, Gogglebox 28.03 (Picture: Channel 4)
They’re so out-of-place that they somehow feel so perfect for it (Picture: Channel 4)

After joining Gogglebox in 2015, Mary Killen and Giles Wood immediately became firm favourites with fans.

I was one of them – this stiff-lipped, upper-class ‘hippy’ couple has a clear disdain for pretty much all television they’re forced to endure and are unlike anyone else on Gogglebox. They’re so out-of-place that they somehow feel so perfect for it.

They wince at pretty much everything they’re shown, including their hilarious horror at Naked Attraction.

For years, I was convinced they were liberal lefty academics, with a flair for dancing in fields and championing peace and love.

I was sold on their fractious relationship, driven by the sort of bickering that can only come with couples who have lived together and been in love for decades.

And then it became clear that I – and so many other Gogglebox fans – had them wrong.

In my defence, they admitted to previously pretending to be lefties (like me) back in the 1990s. During an episode in 2024, Gogglebox stars reacted to two by-election defeats for the Tories to Labour.

TRIC Christmas Lunch 2022
Mary and Giles stunned fans again when the latter appeared to back Donald Trump (Picture: Dave J Hogan/Dave J Hogan/Getty Images)

Watching the results in their respective battered armchairs, Giles said: ‘Oh God, do you remember that? Labour victory, with all those Labour people crowing about their victory.’

Mary sighed: ‘But this is going to be even worse.’

Giles then candidly admitted: ‘And we pretended that we voted Labour… We thought we were going to be lynched.’ (Mary then proclaimed, ‘you pretended!’)

Considering their comments came during the peak hell of the previous Conservative government, which admittedly doesn’t feel much worse than the mess we’re in under this Labour one, Gogglebox fans were alarmed.

Then last month, Mary and Giles stunned fans again when the latter appeared to back Donald Trump after his row with Volodymyr Zelensky over the Ukrainian President’s suit (or lack of).

Giles also defended Vice President JD Vance from accusations he was raising his voice in the argument.

Up Next

‘I don’t think he was speaking loudly,’ he told Mary, who teased: ‘We can see which side you’re on. You’re on the side of the wrong’uns!’

The final straw for viewers came last Friday though, when they mocked man-of-the-moment and national treasure-in-waiting Stephen Graham while discussing Adolescence, the Netflix series widely hailed as the most important television in years.

Mary dubbed him the ‘actor who always plays short northerners’.

Graham is one of the finest actors Britain has produced, his IMDB ranges from Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire to a violent boxer in A Thousand Blows, and even Matilda’s dad Mr Wormwood in the Netflix musical adaption of the Ronald Dahl classic.

If anyone has range, it’s Graham.

Mary’s comment came as Sir Keir Starmer announced Adolescence is going to be shown in schools across the UK to tackle misogyny and the increasing popularity of incel culture among young boys.

British Prime Minister Kier Starmer holds a roundtable meeting at Number 10 Downing Street in London, Britain, March 31, 2025. Created by Graham and Jack Thorne, it’s a rare moment when a televised drama really feels as though it could change the course of history.

Given the timing, there are few things that could have gone down worse with Gogglebox viewers, including backing Trump.

As a result of Mary’s poor jibe, fans of the show in droves have called to ‘get rid’ of the couple. And as someone who spends life determined to be surrounded by my echo chamber of friends, I sympathise.

I, too, can go from zero to 100 when someone shows a glimmer of support for a Tory or Trump because sitting on the fence is no longer an option.

The world feels like it’s on the brink of collapse, life has never been bleaker, and I stand by blaming everything wrong with the world on right-wing politicians and their reckless greed.

It is unfathomable to me that anyone could have lived through the last 14 years of Conservative rule and have an ounce of sympathy for the Tory Party.

Up Next

I get the disappointment in Mary and Giles because I felt it too. But unfortunately, Gogglebox would be pointless without them.

Gogglebox reflects the mood of the nation. It’s a celebration of multicultural Britain and its multitude of values and takes on the week’s television.

I categorically disagree with every political statement I’ve heard from Mary and Giles but that’s exactly the point of Gogglebox. Yes, it’s a lol-a-minute but it’s also the best reflection of how Britain has been gripped by the weekly news.

Mary and Giles also raise a different self-confronting issue: can I like someone who doesn’t align with me politically? As long as they’re disguised as a Labour voter, it turns out I can.

Before I knew anything about their political leanings, I’d go as far as to say Mary and Giles were possibly my favourite Gogglebox couple – or at least up there with the greats like Sophie and Pete Sandiford, The Moffatt Family and Warner sisters.

Should I no longer find their dry humour quirky ramblings spoken with the enthusiasm of John Major because they may have voted for him?

The thing is, I just do. They’re wonderfully strange creatures I’d miss if they left Gogglebox.

Gogglebox has always included right-wing views. Boozers Steph and Dom had a ball wining and dining with Nigel Farage for a TV special in 2014, while Andrew Michael stood as a UKIP candidate before he died in 2021, but neither seemed to be met with the same vitriol by Gogglebox fans.

Perhaps it feels more disappointing to have a couple less clearly Conservative turn out to seemingly be sympathetic to Trump, but still, it feels essential to have them there alongside the liberal lefties.

There are no villains in Gogglebox, that’s part of its charm.

Everyone is brilliant in their own way – whether they voted for Boris Johnson or they worship at the altar of ‘wokeism’, they’re extraordinary ordinary folk who all bring something so unique and special to what on paper is a woefully boring concept.

They give a show that follows everyday people watching TV its life, the eclectic mix of characters keeping it just as popular now as when it began 12 years ago.

Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.

Mock the Week S21,23-09-2022,1, Dara O'Briain

Dara Ó Briain has hit back at claims that he was ‘bullied’ on Mock the Week three years after the show was axed.

The Irish comedian, 53, fronted more than 200 episodes of the BBC Two programme from 2005 until 2022, when it was cancelled ‘in order to create room for new shows’.

The basic format of the show involved six comedians answering questions about the week’s news.

Previously, Dara agreed that criticism directed at Mock The Week over a lack of diversity among the show’s panellists was ‘bang on’.

Now, however, the comedian has defended the show after being asked about how he felt being the butt of many jokes, with panellists often making fun of his nationality, voice, weight and appearance.

Asked whether the treatment he received was a form of bullying, the 53-year-old told The Times: ‘No. It really wasn’t. If I was in a low-status position it would be bullying.

‘But I’m the one pressing the buzzer and handing out the points and I have a kind of high-status mien about myself. So actually it’s fine. It’s grand.

‘And a lot of it was from Ed Byrne, who is one of my closest friends. So I think it’s allowable.’

He also added: ‘I don’t think you need to give young men licence to slag each other off. We didn’t invent the notion of people joking at each other. We just basically stepped into thousands of years of it.’

Why was Mock the Week cancelled?

After deciding to cancel the show in 2022, the BBC said in a statement: ‘We are really proud of the show but after 21 series we have taken the difficult decision in order to create room for new shows.

‘We would like to thank Angst Productions, host Dara O’Briain, panellist Hugh Dennis and all the guest comedians involved in the show across the 21 series.’

The show’s creator Dan Patterson expressed his disappointment following the news.

He added: ‘It’s been announced that the next series of Mock the Week will be the last after 17 great years on the BBC.

‘Desperately disappointing but hopefully we will resurface again soon. Huge thanks to Dara and Hugh and all the wonderful performers over the years. It’s been a privilege.’

Mock The Week has been credited with launching a number of comedians into household names, including the likes of Frankie Boyle, Angela Barnes and Russell Howard.

Previously, the show’s creator, Dan Patterson, told Metro that Dara learnt the show had been cancelled while he was on a family holiday.

‘I called him,’ Dan explained. ‘The unfortunate thing was that he was on holiday with his family.’

After learning that his show had been cancelled, Dara confirmed the news, sarcastically saying the ‘UK has finally run out of news’.

‘The storylines were getting crazier and crazier – global pandemics, divorce from Europe, novelty short-term prime ministers,’ he said. ‘It couldn’t go on.

‘And so, regretfully, we are closing the doors on Dara and Hugh’s Academy for Baby Comedians.

‘We just couldn’t be more silly than the news was already. Huge thanks to all our guests over the years, so many of whom went on to huge successes of their own, and never write or call. It was a joy!’

Mock the Week is available to stream on U.

Amazon Prime adds series fans hailed ‘best TV show Australia ever produced’ https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/01/amazon-prime-adds-series-fans-hailed-best-tv-show-australia-ever-produced-22829623/ https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/01/amazon-prime-adds-series-fans-hailed-best-tv-show-australia-ever-produced-22829623/#respond Tue, 01 Apr 2025 14:43:41 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=22829623

Amazon Prime Video fans are only just emerging out of hibernation after binge-watching an Australian medical drama all winter.

Described as ‘one of the best shows’ to hail from Down Under, All Saints followed staff overseeing the so-called ‘garbage ward’ as it treated overflow patients at the fictional All Saints Western Hospital.

However, the focus was switched to the team working on the emergency department after the ward shut down roughly halfway through the show’s 12-year run.

All Saints’ cast included Georgie Parker, who played the ward’s compassionate nun, sister Terri Sullivan, Erik Thomson as doctor Mitch Stevens and John Howard as head of emergency, Dr Frank Campion.

Nearly two decades after it ended, viewers have been rewatching or discovering the TV show on Amazon Prime, with several claiming it was the best medical show of all time.

Among them is Mary Short, who raved: ‘This is the absolute best medical drama I have seen! There is a good balance between medical drama and personal drama. Regarding this aspect, I think it positively compares with ER. The only thing that isn’t working for me is that I have pretty much given up most of the things I need to do just so I can continue to binge on this show.’

Echoing their sentiment, Cheryl Crocker said: ‘This TV show has to be the best that Australia has ever produced. The acting is fabulous and the wonderful writing expertly married with truth, and the best plot lines.’

Michelle Porter wrote: ‘All Saints quickly became one of my favourite medical dramas. The characters suck you into the family that is woven into the show. I won’t lie, at times it seems that drama was added just for the added chaos, but once you see through the extra writing, it’s a beautiful journey. So many twists and turns make sure that you’re never bored. The duality of characters adds reality to sometimes over-dramatised situations. This is definitely an Australian favourite for good reasons.’

Cactus Queenie added: ‘I just discovered All Saints on Amazon Prime, and have been binge watching all winter. I am not a fan of today’s medical shows, which seem to focus on nonstop manic action and graphic depictions rather than story and character development. This is my 2nd favorite med TV series(only behind the great ST. Elsewhere on the 80s).’

All Saints originally aired on Australian broadcaster Seven Network for 12 seasons and 493 episodes from 1998 until 2009.

All Saints is not the only Australian TV export fans have been recommending on Amazon Prime.

They’ve also urged everyone to watch the ‘excellent and gritty’ true crime drama series, Underbelly, which they say has been ‘criminally underrated’ since it started airing in 2018.

At the time, it was hailed as ‘Australia’s answer to The Sopranos’ but has flown under the radar in recent years.

Each season of Underbelly is inspired by real-life events, with the first loosely based on the 1995 to 2004 gangland war in Melbourne.

During this time, 36 underworld figures were killed, causing a power vacuum within the city’s criminal community.

Jonathan LaPaglia in Underbelly (2008)
Underbelly is considered one of the best Australian true crime drama series (Picture: Nine Network)

Many of the murders remain unsolved, but drug trafficker Carl Williams pleaded guilty to the murders of three people.

In 2010, he was killed by an inmate aged 39 while serving life in prison for the crimes.

Williams is portrayed by Gyton Grantley in Underbelly, with other actors including Vince Colosimo, Simon Westaway and Kat Stewart.

Discussing the 00s drama on Reddit, FooteHarry said: ‘Australian show Underbelly about real gangland wars in Melbourne is (pardon the pun) criminally underrated and should be seen by an international audience.

‘Australia has always punched above its weight in terms of crime dramas both cinematically and televised, but after re-watching Underbelly (season 1, the others weren’t so good) there is a strong case to be made that we do it better than anyone else with a massively underfunded media industry.’

Over on Google, Principe Raphael described Underbelly as ‘must-watch’ TV.

All Saints is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Could the Simpsons have something to do with the White Lotus…? (Picture: 20th Century Fox)

The White Lotus fans are convinced that a very subtle reference to the Simpsons has revealed the killer twist in season three – and it’s not an April Fool’s Day joke.

The third series of Mike White’s iconic drama transported the star-studded cast – including Carrie Coon, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey and Patrick Schwarzenegger – to Thailand, where they enjoyed the lap of luxury at a swanky resort.

Ahead of the finale on Sunday, viewers have been flooding social media with speculation over who the mystery shooter is, and who will get gunned down, and a new theory about the Simpsons is picking up speed.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) previously rocked a necklace adorned with the face of baby Maggie Simpsons, who famously shot Mr Burns – and questioned whether this could be a nod to the identity of the killer.

Reddit user _minion_ posted: ‘I’m pretty sure this is a reference to the Simpsons episode named “In Who Shot Mr. Burns?” where basically a wealthy and cruel owner of the local Nuclear Power Plant, Mr Burns, is shot in a crowd after making enemies across town because he blocked out the sun, polluted the town, and basically made his money very suspiciously.

‘Then the town attempts to find the shooter, with many suspects since the shooting happened very quickly in a rlly big crowd before it’s in the end it’s revealed that Simpsons family baby Maggie Simpson “accidentally” pulled the trigger while trying to pry a lollipop out of Mr burns’ hand.

‘And since Maggie is just a baby, the police chief Wiggum basically just lets her go and everything goes back to normal. So back to white lotus, I think this is a subtle Easter egg where Chloe is the shooter who accidentally kills her husband gregary or something [sic].’

While many followers in the sub joked that the theories had officially gone too far, and reminded the user that Mr Burns ‘survived’ the incident, others saw the vision and were convinced that Chloe is connected to the shooting.

Lazarchdog replied: ‘In that episode of the Simpsons, Maggie accidentally shoots Mr. Burns. A rich old man… could be Gary?’

TheDeadlySpaceman commented: ‘Holy s**t I noticed she had a Maggie pendant and thought it was weird, this actually makes sense.’

‘Her wearing a Maggie necklace is pretty random so this is a very plausible theory for me,’ Known_Ear_6012 agreed.

Zealotstim wrote: ‘Lmao, that would be the deepest reference ever. I am so glad you noticed it.’

‘Sometimes you don’t know the answer until you see it, and this is one of those times. 100% has to be it,’ HeretoFore200 suggested.

The Simpsons connection also popped up on Twitter, after some users also spotted Chloe’s unique jewelry.

Anjuluah added: ‘Is Chloe’s necklace supposed to be Maggie Simpson or am I missing something? #TheWhiteLotus.’

Someone get Mike White on the phone, immediately.

The two-part Who Shot Mr Burns special served as the season six finale, and season seven premiere, with both episodes airing in 1995.

They followed a whodunnit taking place in Springfield after Mr Burns was shot and collapsed on the sun dial in town, with a string of residents in the frame as the possible shooter.

In the premiere, it was eventually revealed that the billionaire businessman fought with Maggie over a lollipop and the baby was somehow the one to pull the trigger.

Things took a turn in a later instalment, Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Three Times, when Homer appeared to confirm that he actually shot Mr Burns and framed his baby daughter.

Thankfully, viewers don’t have to theorize on the White Lotus for too much longer as the finale airs on Sunday, meaning we will finally get answers over who pulled the trigger, and whose holiday came to an untimely end…

The White Lotus is available to stream on Now in the UK and HBO in the US.

The countdown is on for Celebrity Big Brother, with the new series set to launch in just a few days.

A fresh batch of celebrities are preparing to abandon the outside world and enter the house on Monday, and though the official line-up has yet to be announced, rumours have been swirling of it could include.

Last year saw Ekin-Su Culculoglu join Fern Britton, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne in the house, with David Potts crowned champion.

This time, it’s been claimed Hollywood icon Goldie Hawks, EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer, Chesney Hawkes, Corrie’s Jack P Shepherd, Daley Thompson and Annie Walker are taking part.

They’ll reportedly be joined by reality star Ella Morgan, Love Island’s Chris Hughes, and drag queen Danny Beard.

And though we still don’t know for sure who will be entering the house, a winner has already been revealed.

According to the latest odds by Card Player, Daniel Curtis, who goes by Danny Beard on stage, is the current market leader as 3/1 to win the new series.

He’s followed by singer Chesney at 7/2 and Patsy at 5/1.

Liam Solomon, spokesperson for Card Player, said: ‘As we gear up for the upcoming series of Celebrity Big Brother on Monday, drag queen Danny Beard has taken the top spot in the market to win the show.

‘We’ve priced Beard at 3/1 as our current outright favourite the win the show as we expect him to be a fan favourite in the Big Brother house following various successful television appearances on Britain’s Got Talent and RuPaul’s Drag Race.

‘The remaining candidates in the top three in the betting are Chesney Hawkes and Patsy Palmer, priced 7/2 and 5/1 respectively.’

Other names thrown in the mix include Towie star Ella Rae Wise, who stands at odds of 7/1 to win, Angelica Bell, at odds of 12/1, and politician Michael Fabricant, at odds of 20/1.

Danny reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2016, and won season four of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, becoming the first bearded winner of any Drag Race franchise.

They’re also no stranger to the Big Brother franchise, having appeared on Late and Live last year, and having expressed their desire to work in TV.

Back in 2022, they told GayTimes: ‘I really wanna work in TV and I don’t mean celebrity picking up dog s**t, I would love to work in TV.

‘I would love to host television, I’d love my show eventually. I’d like to crack TV presenting and I think I can do it.

‘Listen to me! I’m sat here with no bloody knickers on saying, “I could be a TV presenter!”

‘I’d love to do it. It’s always been a dream, so let’s see if we can do it.’

A source previously told The Sun: ‘Danny is hilarious and witty yet also great to be around. They’re going to make a great housemate for viewers and the other celebs alike.’

Meanwhile, an ITV spokesperson has previously told Metro: ‘Any names suggested for Celebrity Big Brother are speculation.’

Celebrity Big Brother is returning for a second season after it was revived last year for the first time since 2018, hot on the heels of the successful ITV relaunch of Big Brother’s civilian edition, with AJ Odudu and Will Best as hosts.

ITV brought Big Brother back in 2023 after it had spent five years off the air following its earlier revival by Channel 5, which ran from 2011 to 2018.

Since its return, Jordan Sangha and Ali Bromley have been crowned winners, with a third season expected to air in October.

Celebrity Big Brother returns on Monday, April 7, at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

All good things must come to an end, and that is certainly true of TV shows on Netflix.

The global streaming platform may have added extraordinary content in recent weeks, including the ground-breaking Adolescence, but this month, seven top titles are being removed from its library.

Among those getting booted off Netflix are a British comedy series with a cult following, a Spanish-language show about a real-life boxer who murdered his wife and a beloved anime series.

Viewers are likely to be most disappointed by the culling of sci-fi crime drama Life On Mars, which was so popular it led to the production of an equally successful spin-off.

However, they still do have just over two weeks to watch the TV show that has been called ‘the best British drama I have seen in years’ by Google reviewer Scotland Scotland.

In the 70s, Sam works the same job in the same location, but this time under the command of Detective Chief Inspector Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister).

The BBC series originally ran for two seasons from 2006 until 2007 and later produced spin-off drama, Ashes to Ashes.

TV star Jeff Brazier has opened up about his one ‘regret’ when raising his young children after watching hit Netflix series Adolescence.

The 45-year-old media personality raised his two sons as a single father – Bobby and Freddy – from the ages of four and five after his late wife, Jade Goody, died of cervical cancer in 2009, aged 27.

Although his children, now aged 20 and 21, are past the turbulent teenage years, the ITV presenter reflected on what he could have done differently while raising them.

He appeared alongside Craig Doyle, Jordan Banjo and Iain Stirling on a Loose Women special with an all-male panel to discuss the impact of Adolescence and the national conversation it has sparked.

When asked by Craig about his experience raising his two boys alone, he credited his mum and Aunty Leslie for their huge help.

He then explained: ‘In terms of doing it all alone I put all the pressure in the world on myself because I think the way that I coped with challenges that we faced in my childhood was to be positive and roll your sleeves up.

‘Naturally that became a coping strategy that I adopted when I was like “right I’ve got two children of my own and I need to somehow get through this. I need to cope”.’

He made his world ‘really small’ to just deal with what was ‘in front of him’.

The host continued: ‘I just used the shield of positivity which meant that I was batting off anything negative. I wasn’t really sitting on “how is this for you? How are you doing? Are you keeping a balance here?”.

‘That wasn’t in my mind whatsoever. It was just “are they alright? Do they have what they need? Are they being fed? Are they getting to school?”

‘So I regret that. I think that it is a really natural way to go about that so there’s no shame or embarrassment.’

But if he could go back and talk to his ‘younger self’ he would have said to be a ‘full menu’.

He would have said: ‘You need to be the full menu. For yourself as much as them. You need to be able to show the full range of emotions. The negative ones where you feel a bit despondent and feel like you can’t carry all of this pressure and weight.

‘You have to be able to voice that and share that with friends and let them see that as well because it would have been a really important.’

He said that he ‘wasn’t able to do that at the time’ and his coping strategy was ‘pre-determined’.

Jeff concluded: ‘But I’ve certainly done loads and loads of work on it since and I make sure I am as much of a full menu as I can possibly be.’

Later in the episode, he read out a letter to his younger self in which he discussed similar topics, getting emotional as he took a trip down memory lane.

And, as the conversation turned to the manosphere and Andrew Tate’s influence on young boys today, he admitted that he ‘can’t be the answer to everything.’

Since its release last month, Adolescence has broken a UK viewing record for Netflix and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has confirmed the four-part drama will be shown in schools.

In his column for Metro, Starmer said he was ‘delighted that Netflix is making the drama free for secondary schools across the country’.

He wrote: ‘This is a fantastic step to start the essential conversations we need to be having in classrooms across the nation.

‘Because almost every week, we hear shocking stories of violent crimes against women.’

Loose Women airs at 12:30pm on ITV on weekdays.

Kristin Davis has claimed she was pressured into a topless scene while filming Sex and the City.

From 1998 until 2004, the actress played Charlotte York in the HBO romantic comedy, starring alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon.

She later reprised the role in the 2008 movie Sex and the City, its sequel Sex and the City 2 in 2010 and in the revival of the show And Just Like That…, which launched in 2021.

However, the 60-year-old actress has now spoken about a particularly uncomfortable experience on the set of the original series.

Recalling filming a scene during season 5 where she ‘flashed my boob’, Kristin accused showrunner Michael Patrick King, now 70, of not giving her a choice in the matter.

‘I didn’t want to do it. Michael Patrick forced me to do it. And he kept telling me like “it’ll be fine, it’ll be great”’ she said on the latest episode of her Are You A Charlotte? podcast.

‘And it is. But we were in a restaurant. There were people everywhere.’

Speaking with Jenny Bicks, a writer on the show, Kristin admitted the story was ‘not going to sound good’ when the episode was released.

However, she added her former boss ‘knows’ about her feelings.

She added: ‘I do think the other thing, and Michael always talks about this a lot too, is that we always wanted the sex to be like, “oh we are shooting a soft porn”. The tone was important.’

In the episode the actress also spoke about her first completely nude scene the following season when Charlotte converts to Judaism and steps into a mikveh bath.

Reflecting on that moment she explained: ‘It was a very, very integral part of the storyline. Because it wasn’t sexual – it’s much easier to have some nudity in a non-sexual way in a spiritual way.’

However, she said the filming environment was uncomfortable after having to walk through a room full of men smoking cigars.

‘I was like, “Uh, I’m trying to do something here without feeling self-conscious. Could you possibly move all those guys?” It’s crazy back then what went on,’ she shared.

‘Even in a situation where you theoretically did have so much power, all that stuff was still able to happen and you had to be the bad guy and be like, “They can’t smoke cigars literally in my eye line”.’

However, she said the mikveh scene was ‘gorgeous, romantic perfection’ and she was glad she’d done it.

Earlier this year Kristin, who has also appeared in Melrose Place, told People she was ‘scared’ of showing sex on the show and didn’t think all of the intimate scenes were needed.

‘I did not feel protected. I had to hide in my dressing room at the end of the scenario. I had to hide in my dressing room and call my manager in L.A, at two in the morning,’ she admitted.

Metro has contacted representatives for Michael Patrick King for comment.

Sex and the City is streaming on Now.

Up Next

A ‘ground-breaking’ revenge thriller from the makers of Adolescence is set to be released by the BBC next week.

Reunion is a four-part series presented in both spoken English and British Sign Language (BSL), which follows a deaf man’s quest to uncover the truth about the events that led to his incarceration 10 years earlier.

Unable to fully integrate with the hearing world and shunned by the deaf community, Daniel Brennan (Matthew Gurney) reunites with his estranged daughter Carly (Lara Peake) while the wife of his victim, Christine (Anne-Marie Duff), searches for answers as to why he killed her husband.

Written by Sheffield-born deaf writer William Mager, the show was produced by the team behind Netflix’s smash hit Adolescence.

Starring the likes of Eddie Marsan and former EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis, the show has been hailed for pushing boundaries.

In an interview with Liam O’Dell, Ayling-Ellis said: ‘This is a big one. I think that it’s ground-breaking because you’ve got a deaf writer, you’ve got deaf actors – more than one, there’s a lot of them. We’ve even got deaf SAs [supporting artists], as well.

‘Also, we have deaf crew – there were so many deaf crew, I’ve never seen that many in my life, but that was completely new to me in the whole experience.’

Gurney – who plays newly-released murder convict Daniel Brennan – told Metro that the show has redefined what deaf representation looks like in mainstream media.

The lead star said in an interview: ‘Obviously, Brennan’s a deaf character, and he’s very different from the stereotypes we’ve had in other programs or films, where it’s all very patronising, “oh the community”.

‘This isn’t about that at all. He’s just a man who happens to be deaf, and he’s on his own journey and that really hooked me. If he was a victim, I wouldn’t have auditioned for him as a part for me but it was a really exciting character to play.’

How to Have Sex star Peake also praised how the show strikes a balance between being a thriller and highlighting issues within the deaf community.

She said: ‘There’s a huge amount of humanity in [this series]. This need to communicate and understand one another and want answers. It’s not just a cold-hearted revenge story where somebody’s getting whoever it is they need.

‘It’s about connection and relationships and forgiveness. So I think it’s really beautiful that it’s got all these different layers, as well as the heart of it – this driving force of the revenge story,’ she said.

Following Adolescence’s record-breaking viewing numbers on Netflix, the show’s producers will be hoping for a similar impact with Reunion.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Netflix drama is now being made available for free in all British schools.

The four-part drama, co-created by and starring Stephen Graham, deals with incel culture, social media addiction and the difficulty of parenting in today’s world.

The announcement was made as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer met with the show’s creators at Downing Street during a meeting about the issues tackled by the series.

Saying that the programme hit him, his wife, and his son ‘hard’, the Labour leader added that he wished to work out ‘what can we do as a society to stop and prevent young boys being dragged into this whirlpool of hatred and misogyny’.

He added: ‘It’s pernicious and persistent. But what Adolescence shows is that it’s now taken on a different form, or different characteristics [that can be] pumped directly into the minds of our children.’

Reunion starts on BBC One on April 7.

South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun has tearfully denied dating late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor after allegations made by her family.

In February, Kim Sae-ron, one of the country’s most promising young stars, died by suicide at her home in Seoul at the age of 24.

After her death, in a scandal that has shocked South Korea, her family claimed that Kim Soo-hyun dated her when she was 15 and underage.

They also alleged that Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, co-founded by his relative, GoldMedalist, pressured her into repaying a debt.

At a surprise press conference in Seoul yesterday, Kim Soo-hyun refuted both claims.

‘I can’t admit to something I didn’t do,’ the 37-year-old actor said, according to the BBC.

Kim Soo-hyun denied dating Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor, but said they were in a relationship when she was an adult.

He said: ‘I never dated her when she was a minor. Except for the fact that both of us were actors, our relationship was just like that of any other ordinary couple.’

Kim Soo-hyun explained he previously denied they were in a relationship to protect their acting careers.

In the South Korean entertainment industry, it is scandalous for a celebrity to admit to having a romantic partner.

The actor said: ‘I had so much to protect as its lead actor. What would have happened if I had admitted to a year-long relationship? What would happen to the actors, the staff who were working overnight and the production team who had everything staked on that project?

‘The more I thought of it, the more I thought that shouldn’t be what I do.’

Kim Soo-hyun also denied allegations Kim Sae-ron ‘made the tragic choice because of me or my agency pressurising her over a debt.’

In 2022, Kim Sae-ron took a hiatus from acting after being charged with drunk driving. She was fined 20 million won, which is around £11,000.

Her family claim that GoldMedalist paid the fine and later pursued legal action for repayment.

Kim Sae-ron’s career began when she was nine, and her early work included A Brand New Life.

She went on to appear action film The Man from Nowhere, which was the highest-grossing film in South Korea in 2010, and the 2012 thriller The Neighbour.

Kim Sae-ron’s first adult role was 2016 TV drama series Secret Healer before starring in Netflix’s Korean thriller Bloodhounds, which was released in 2023. The series was in the platform’s top 10 shows across 83 countries.

Meanwhile, Kim Soo-Hyun made his TV debut in 2007 with family sitcom Kimchi Cheese Smile and he went on to establish himself in shows Dream High and Moon Embracing Sun.

His other credits include My Love from the Star, The Producers and It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.

In 2020, Kim Soo-Hyun was one of South Korea’s highest-paid actors.

He was also reportedly due to star in a Disney Plus series, which has been put on pause due to the scandal, according to Korean publication Yonhap.

James May has shut down rumours there could be a reunion between him, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

From 2003 until 2015, the trio hosted BBC’s motoring show Top Gear, going on to present The Grand Tour between 2016 and 2024.

Since then, there’s been plenty of talk about whether they will be seen on screens together again, however May has now ruled that out, saying they’ve now ‘disbanded’.

‘There isn’t going to be a reunion,’ he told ABC News Breakfast.

‘We’re not like Led Zeppelin or anything like that. In many ways, we’re not like Led Zeppelin.’

However, he did admit the end of their TV partnership last year was an ‘emotional experience’.

‘I was in that job longer than I have been in any other job by a long, long way,’ he continued.

‘Most other jobs I managed a few years in before I was fired for one reason or another. It was longer than I spent at school. So, whether I like it or not, those other two are a very significant part of my life.

‘It’s a cliche to say end of an era and all that sort of stuff, but it was.’

After more than two decades working together, May said they realised it was ‘probably time to stop’ as they wanted to ‘land it with dignity and not fly into thee cliffs’.

Adding they were ‘getting on a bit’, he said it was time for a younger generation to ‘think of a new way of talking about things like cars and transport generally’.

However The Grand Tour will be returning to screens with four specials (Picture: Amazon Prime Video/ PA Wire)

How long did James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond work together?

After more than 20 years working together, in 2024 James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond ended their professional partnership.

From 1988 until 1999, Clarkson was a presenter on the original Top Gear, with May briefly also appearing on the show its final year on air.

Two years after the series was cancelled, Top Gear relaunched with Clarkson and Hammond at the helm, with May then joining the second season in 2003 after replacing Jason Dawe.

The line-up then remained unchanged until the end of the 22nd season, when the BBC chose to not renew Clarkson’s contract in 2015 after he assaulted a producer while filming. The other two then also stepped down from the programme.

They then signed up to work on The Grand Tour together, which ran from 2016 until last year.

At the time he spoke about the decision to step away to The Sunday Times: ‘After 36 years of talking about cars on television, I’m packing it in, because I’m too old and fat to get into the cars that I like and not interested in driving those I don’t.

‘What this means of course is that my 22-year partnership with James May and Richard Hammond is now over. You can see our final road trip together on Amazon Prime very soon. It’s emotional.’

However earlier this week Amazon Prime revealed details of four upcoming The Grand Tour specials that would see them reflect on that long-running series.

In 2016, they reunited for the series, which initially followed a similar format to the BBC motoring series.

However after a decade, last year the final special went to air, which saw the trio travel across Zimbabwe in cars they always wanted to own.

But six months on, Amazon Prime has now announced it will be releasing four retrospective episodes, which will look back at the best moments of the series.

The first special will be The Not Very Grand Tour: The Power And The Glory, which will see Hammond and May ‘celebrate the glory of the internal combustion engine’ by looking back at the series.

‘These include the hyper car holy trinity, muscle cars in Detroit, a city sprint in a Bugatti, the world’s craziest tank, and a race between the past, present and future,’ the streaming service said.

Other instalments include The Grand-ish Tour: A Trip Down Memory Lane, The Grand-ish Tour: A Bit Further Down Memory Lane and The Grand-ish Tour: Completely Lost Down Memory Lane.

Clarkson will take part in those, where they will all look back at moments in California, Morocco, Colorado, Scandinavia, and Mongolia.

Amazon has also teased that they will also celebrate stuff they built including a self-assembly car that crossed Mongolia, and Clarkson’s home-made SUV, along with their explosions, and making a ‘heartfelt farewell to an old friend’.

They specials are set to be released later this year and into 2026.

Last year Clarkson admitted he was ‘mostly smashed’ while filming the final episode of The Grand Tour.

Speaking at a Q&A following a premiere screening of The Grand Tour: One For The Road, the 64-year-old revealed he and his co-stars were ‘mostly smashed’ during filming but ‘hopefully nobody will notice’.

The Not Very Grand Tour: The Power And The Glory will be streaming from April 18 on Amazon Prime Video.

The co-creator of The Last of Us has revealed the blockbuster series could end after just a few seasons.

Based on the video game franchise of the same name, the TV show was created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

Set 20 years into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection that causes its host to transform into zombie-like creatures, its spread has caused the collapse of society.

The show follows Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting immune teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States.

Premiering in 2023, the first season launched to crucial acclaim and was nominated for a whopping 24 Emmys, winning eight.

It also averaged almost 32 million viewers per episode by May and became HBO’s most watched debut season.

First look at season 2 of ?The Last of Us.? Pedro Pascal and @BellaRamsey in #TheLastOfUs Season 2, now in production. Coming to @HBO and @StreamOnMax in 2025. Last edited 7:27 AM ? May 15, 2024

This month the second season will be released, with a third also already in development.

However, Mazin has now said there’s a chance the series won’t be a long-running one.

In a recent interview Druckmann, who helped develop the video game, told fans ‘don’t bet on there being more of Last of Us’ when asked if there could ever be a third game.

Now Mazin has confirmed they have no plans to extend the series if there’s no source material from the game to work off.

‘I am not going to go past the game,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Co-creator Craig Mazin said they are ‘not going past the game’ (Picture: Monica Schipper/ WireImage)

‘I’ll just say that flat out. So, if people are thinking, “Oh, these guys are planning the old cash grab thing…”’

‘I’m basically setting a decade of my rapidly dwindling life on fire to tell this story. The show is so hard to make. It has to have an end. So, I’m not going to go past.

‘Who knows me, there might be a Dunk and Egg The Last of Us show that happens that somebody does. But for me, the only question is: Is it going to be one more season or will it require two more? If this can happen all in one more season, great. If we feel like it makes sense to break it into two, then we will do that.’

His comments come after Mazin told Entertainment Weekly in February that it was ‘pretty likely that our story will extend past a season 3’.

‘How far past? I can’t say. And that’s not to say that there are not other stories that could be told, but this story is the one that Neil and I are telling.’

However the second video game is set to span several seasons (Picture: Christopher Polk/ Variety via Getty Images)

However, the TV adaptation of The Last of Us: Part II game is set to stretch out over several seasons, with Mazin telling Deadline last year a fourth season ‘may be required’

Fans don’t have long to be able to dive into the next season.

Set five years after the events of the first, it’s been teased of the upcoming episodes: ‘After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.’

The creators have also said they are ‘high-calorie, dense episodes that pack quite a wallop’, assuring viewers they would ‘not be bored’.

The Last of Us season 2 is set to premiere on Monday April 14 on Sky and NOW.

The TV licence fee has risen in line with inflation (Picture: EPA)

Today, the cost of a TV licence has increased in the UK – but before the change came into effect, many people rushed to cancel their subscriptions.

It was previously announced that on April 1 2025, the annual fee would be going up by an extra £5 from £169.50 to £174.50.

The money is used to pay for eight national TV channels plus regional TV services, BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, 56 radio stations, the BBC website, BBC World Service and BBC apps.

‘This is a rise of just over 1p a day and is the second time the licence fee has increased since 1 April 2021,’ the TV licensing company said.

‘The Government decided that the licence fee would rise annually in line with annual CPI inflation from 1 April 2024 for the remaining four years of the Charter period. The BBC’s current Charter runs until the end of 2027.’

Although some viewers weren’t happy about it, it is legally required to have a TV licence if you watch live television – on any channel – or use BBC iPlayer.

Following the announced, some suggested that it should be scrapped altogether, or admitted that they were personally checking out.

Do you need a TV licence to watch anything on TV?

While a TV licence is required to watch live TV channels or streaming on BBC iPlayer, you don’t need it to watch absolutely all television.

That means that you can watch on other streaming platforms without the need for a licence, including Netflix, Disney Plus, ITVX and the Channel 4 streaming service.

If you watch any live TV on the platforms mentioned above, then you do need to have a TV licence to be able to watch the programmes legally.

If you live in a shared household, then you need to pay for your own TV licence if you have separate tenancy agreements to your housemates and you watch TV in your own room.

If you’re a student, you also need to have your own TV licence to watch TV in your room.

‘I will say it again as I think it is important. We need to scrap the BBC TV Licence Fee. Who is with me on this?’ wrote Jamie A on X, which led to some followers responding in agreement.

ElizaT56623 urged others to cancel: ‘We should defund the BBC. If I can live without watching iPlayer or any live TV broadcasts then I’m pretty sure you can too. It’s really easy to cancel your TV licence, I even got a refund!’

‘If there is ever a reason not to pay your TV licence this is it,’ wrote Ian and shared a short clip of David Tennant presenting the Baftas.

‘I don’t buy a TV licence, I don’t watch BBC, iPlayer or anything live on any channel or platform. After reading the tweets about the Baftas I think I’m allowed to say that I win,’ added Cheekypinot. While Sentinel called the TV licence fee ‘blatant robbery’.

‘High time the licence fee was scrapped,’ stated Louise Greenan.

Of course, not everyone feels this way and some people appreciate the BBC for providing TV that leads to major talking moments.

In January, there was more fury when it was revealed radical new measures were being considered by the UK government.

Ministers debated whether to extend the fee to all streaming platform users to plug the BBC funding gap, according to Bloomberg.

Not everyone has to pay the rising costs of the TV licence.

State pensioners aged over 74 and receiving Pension Credit can apply for a free TV licence, and discounts are also offered for the blind, as well as those who live in care homes or sheltered accommodation.

Amazon Prime’s new comedy series, Last One Laughing UK, has left viewers in stitches and even proved to be one of their biggest hits.

The reality show – hosted by Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty – gathers together some of the UK’s finest comedians with one rule: ‘You laugh, you lose.’

This season features 10 comics desperately battling to keep a straight face: Bob Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, Harriet Kemsley, and Richard Ayoade.

But as the contestants whip out a bizarre magic show, dish on their secret celebrity crushes and attempt some daring physical comedy they find that, much like ‘suppressing a fart’, it’s a near-impossible task.

The format has proved a success in the past with a German, Canadian, Australian and Irish (hosted by Graham Norton) spin-off.

Fans have been left mightily impressed by the new version as it shoots to number one in the UK, outpacing Reacher, Wheel of Time and the Irish spin-off.

Recent figures by Barb reveal the first episode has been watched by 2,976,100 viewers, the second by 2,527,300 and the third by 2,485,400.

What are the top 10 TV shows on Amazon Prime Video?

As of Tuesday April 1, the top 10 TV shows on Amazon Prime Video in the UK are…

  1. LOL: Last One Laughing UK
  2. Reacher
  3. Neighbours
  4. The Wheel of Time
  5. LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland
  6. Bosch: Legacy
  7. Invincible
  8. House of David
  9. Clarkson’s Farm
  10. LOL: Australia

TV fan account SuperTV praised on X: ‘RATINGS! Amazon Prime’s LOL (Last one Laughing!) has broken records as one of their biggest UK launches ever — the first 3 episodes last week have appeared in the Top 50 shows of the week with 2.5m, 2.5m & 3 MILLION viewers!’

‘Well deserved, it’s FANTASTIC! Me and my family binge watched it in one evening,’ X user Siobhan replied.

‘I wouldn’t last 2 minutes on Last one Laughing UK. It’s hilarious!!’ @danrgardiner elsewhere wrote on X.

‘Last One Laughing UK is one of the best things I’ve watched in ages. Hope they do more seasons of it!’ Sarah added.

‘Last one laughing UK is one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. Haven’t laughed at TV like this in years,’ @alanturnerr praised.

‘Just watched the first 2 eps of Last One Laughing UK. Bob Mortimer is just a joy to watch in everything he is in,’ @stepharnee said.

‘Funniest thing I’ve watched in a while. I wouldn’t last 2 seconds,’ @helwid87 posted.

‘I am literally crying with laughter,’ @danielinton commented.

Over on Reddit, the sentiment was heartily echoed.

‘So many great comedians all in one room! It’s kinda refreshing seeing them all together when it’s not for a quiz/panel show.

‘Literally just talking and trying to make each other laugh. I wouldn’t have lasted a minute in that room haha,’ @aromatic_vast_5480 said.

‘I really loved it. The Harry Potter bit and Joe’s Joker had me in stitches. Wish I could watch it all now,’ @stoppedlisteningtome shared.

In an interview with Radio Times, host Jimmy revealed his strategy to make people laugh may have failed quite quickly.

‘Comedians are a competitive bunch and I think, at our worst, we don’t want to acknowledge how funny our colleagues are.

‘I appear to be quite proper and use wordplay, but I don’t know if that’s the way to play this game. It’s about the weird and wonderful: a fart gag from me would be very unexpected,’ he said.

And in a chat with The Telegraph, he said that while filming they created a ‘really fun, giddy atmosphere.’

He added: ‘Twenty-five years ago, you couldn’t have named 20 comedians, and now you could name 30 that would be great on the show.

‘It’s one of the most fun days of telly I’ve ever had.’

Last One Laughing UK is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

Big Brother star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace has revealed she nearly died after her experience with fake diet injections.

The 46-year-old rose to fame in 2006 as a contestant on the seventh series of the reality TV show, alongside the likes of Nikki Grahame and Pete Bennett, who won Big Brother that year.

Aisleyne continued to remain in the public eye after Big Brother, appearing on the likes of Celebrity Coach Trip, Good Morning Britain and Celebrity Botched Bodies.

She’s now opened up about the pressures of fame she faced, saying you have to be ‘thick-skinned’.

‘I had a neck lift after the black-market diet jabs because I kept seeing bad angles of myself in the press,’ she said in an interview with OK! Magazine.

‘People say the nastiest things online just to get a reaction. And listen – if you’re going on reality TV thinking your life will instantly change? It won’t.

‘A lot of people have to go back to their normal jobs, and they can’t handle it. You have to be mentally prepared for that.’

Speaking of her experience with the black-market diet jabs, she warned: ‘DO NOT DO IT.’

Aisleyne went on: ‘Unless you go through your doctor, don’t touch it. I nearly died. I lost my vision.

‘My whole body shut down. People don’t realise how dangerous these black-market jabs are.’

In 2016, Aisleyne revealed another nightmare cosmetic surgery during her appearance on Celebrity Botched Bodies, where she wanted to get her teeth fixed after being left in agony when trying to get veneers, as her teeth were shaved down to stubs.

‘I looked at my face, I didn’t recognise who I was.’

She spoke of how her confidence had been ruined after self-esteem issues stemming from her childhood, when she was ‘badly bullied’ at school.

Following the treatment on the reality programme, she said: ‘I’d say my life has improved since the treatment because my confidence is back. I’m happy to smile, I don’t feel so self conscious. I don’t cover my mouth when I’m laughing anymore.’

‘My nerves have gone, I’ve got no anxiety, I don’t need sedating. I believe in dentists again. I can’t wait to show off my gnashers,’ she added.

The TV star has elsewhere been open about other cosmetic surgery procedures she has had, and previously revealed she raked in £1,000,000 on OnlyFans after getting her ‘t*ts and teeth’ done.

She said:  ‘I made a million, especially when I got my bum done, but I’ve done that already now.

‘I mean, I thought to myself how am I going to make loads of money I’ll get my t*ts and teeth done, and I was right. I’d always been a bit of a show-off, I always liked getting in front of the camera and going to shoots and sticking my bum out and my boobs.’

Actress Sian Barbara Allen has died aged 78.

The star appeared in American historical drama TV series The Waltons as well as films You’ll Like My Mother and Billy Two Hats.

She died in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Monday, after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Paying tribute after announcing the news of her death, her family said: ‘Sian was most often cast in roles in which her characters showed great vulnerability and uncommon empathy, which won her a legion of fans all over the world.’

They added: ‘Sian’s favorite things in the world were her family, mystery books, C-SPAN, poetry, all things Ireland, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon’s Graceland album, mac and cheese, root beer floats and bacon cheeseburgers (no lettuce or tomato).

‘She lived her final year of life in North Carolina, surrounded by all of her favorite things, new friends, and more time with [her daughter] Emily than she’d had in 35 years.’

In The Waltons, Allen played Richard Thomas’ John-Boy’s love interest, who she earlier starred alongside in 1972 film You’ll Like My Mother, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for most promising new actress.

The two were involved in a relationship for several years, with Thomas suggesting his then-girlfriend took on the role of his onscreen love interest in The Waltons during episodes in 1973.

Allen also appeared on programmes including The Rockford Files, Ironside, Bonanza and Gunsmoke.

Her final onscreen role came in an episode of LA Law, titled Whatever Happened to Hannah?, in 1990.

Following her withdrawal from public life, Allen went on to focus on politics as well as poetry.

Fans have paid tribute to her on her obituary page, with one, Eldo, writing: ‘I have often thought of Sian Barbara Allen and wondered where she went.. she made an indelible mark on my young brain watching her in various TV shows and of course , You´ll Like My Mother.

‘I was very drawn to her face, her fragility …she had that “thing” that only a few actresses have. I missed seeing her. I´m sure I have googled her many times over the years.

‘So…saddened at this news. But happy to learn she had a wonderful life past her acting career with many folks who loved her. And a beautiful daughter.’

Al added: ‘My condolences to Sian Barbara Allen’s family and friends. I am an admirer from her acting career. As a child growing up in the 1970s, I was fascinated by this charming, lovely young actress who was able to portray such fragile, delicate characters. I live in the Triangle area of NC, and am sorry I never had a chance to meet her and tell her how much I loved her performances.’

Allen is survived by her daughter, two sisters and ex-husband.

BBC’s new thriller, Reunion, follows a newly-released murder convict Daniel Brennan (Matthew Gurney) in his pursuit of vengeance.

The dual-language drama, told in English and British Sign Language, was created by William Mager features an ensemble cast starring Rose Ayling-Ellis, Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marsan and Lara Peake.

And, as Matthew tells Metro in a new interview, the show is pushing the boundaries of what Deaf representation looks like in mainstream media with a ‘fast-paced’ plot that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

As the official synopsis explains, we meet Daniel, a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison.

‘Unable to fully integrate with the hearing world and shunned by the deaf community’, he reunites with his estranged daughter Carly (Lara) while the wife of his victim, Christine (Anne-Marie,) desperately searches for answers as to why Daniel killed her husband.

‘Obviously, Brennan’s a deaf character, and he’s very different from the stereotypes that we’ve had in other programs or films, where it’s all very patronising, “oh the community”,’ he shared in a mocking tone.

Carly (LARA PEAKE) and Daniel (MATTHEW GURNEY)
Reunion is BBC’s new bilingual revenge thriller that will leave your heart pounding (Picture: BBC)

The lead star continued: ‘This isn’t about that at all. He’s just a man who happens to be deaf, and he’s on his own journey and that really hooked me. If he was a victim, I wouldn’t have auditioned for him as a part for me but it was a really exciting character to play.’

And there were plenty of ways in which Matthew related to the character, especially through Daniel’s isolation from society.

‘When I left school, I left a Deaf school where I was taught in sign language.

‘I was in the real world, and I realised that no one signed – not as many as I thought. I was in my own little bubble at school. Everybody signed. And then when I left, I was like, “wow”.

‘So that gives me empathy. I’ve struggled. It took a long time to realise what the world is like outside of our community,’ he said.

The balance the show strikes between the issues facing the Deaf community and maintaining the thriller aspect at the heart of it has been praised by Lara.

‘There’s a huge amount of humanity in [this series]. This need to communicate and understand one another and want answers. It’s not just a cold-hearted revenge story where somebody’s getting whoever it is they need.

Daniel (MATTHEW GURNEY) and Carly (LARA PEAKE)
The series explores the complicated father-daughter dynamic between Carly and Daniel (Picture: BBC/Warp Films/P)

‘It’s about connection and relationships and forgiveness. So I think it’s really beautiful that it’s got all these different layers, as well as the heart of it – this driving force of the revenge story,’ she said.

Matthew had several conversations with the director Luke about the ‘aim for Reunion’ and making it different to how hard-of-hearing people are typically portrayed on screen.

Something he believes this show achieves.

‘I think the audience will see deaf people as hearing people, as humans on a journey where things happen. We’re not just tokenistically put into a story, we have loads to tell, and it can happen to anyone.

‘It happened to Brennan, and the focus is on his journey, and I hope the audience will focus on that, rather than the fact that he’s a sign language user and he’s deaf. It’s not about that, really.’

‘We’re not invisible,’ he said. ‘We are here. We’re just maybe not seen as much.’

One element that showcased that to Matthew was during the physical fight scenes he had in prison.

‘[At one point] I was threatened with something in my eye. Rarely as deaf actors do we get the opportunity for doing combat. Most deaf people are on Casualty or Holby City as victims in a bed.

‘It was good for me, because I’d always wanted to do that, be a stuntman. It’s like, “Finally, it’s my time.” I’ve been waiting for this for so long.’

During another altercation in the show, Daniel accidentally whacks Miri in the face, an incident that requires an immense level of trust and intuition between the actors, as the Strictly winner explained.

‘Matthew is deaf so he can’t hear me when I’m behind him. We had to be extremely safe. I had to put my hand on his back to make sure he knew I’m there and he had to do that [whack his arm back] and hope for the best. Each time he got so close but he never [actually hit me],’ she said.

Although she added that at the stunt had been so realistic that Luke and the crew had been genuinely concerned she was hurt before being quickly reassured.

The diversity of the set, both in front and behind the camera, made this job unlike any of the others Rose has been on.

She said: ‘I always have to do the extra work but in this one I didn’t, I literally just came and played the character. That’s never really happened for me before. And having so many deaf crew, it was like I don’t have to explain it, I literally just have to perform.’

And there was nothing she loved more than having the opportunity to play the Bad Sisters’ star’s daughter.

Miri (ROSE AYLING-ELLIS) and Christine (ANNE-MARIE DUFF)
Anne-Marie Duff and Rose Ayling-Ellis had lovely chemistry on set as a grieving mother and daughter (Picture: BBC/Warp Films/P)

Especially during one scene in the second episode, when Miri has a tender conversation with Christine reflecting on her late father’s legacy.

Anne-Marie recalled: ‘When we filmed that scene, it was very beautiful, it was really interesting. The set was very quiet. Everyone was very focused. And Luke came in and sat there with us while we were filming it. He wasn’t looking at a monitor, [he was] watching us.’

As for what other production companies can learn from Reunion on how to implement inclusive storytelling from script to screen – there’s no excuse, said Anne-Marie.

She continued: ‘When do we ever turn on an advert and see anybody who isn’t able-bodied or hearing. I’ve never seen an advert when somebody’s signing, it’s just never there. So it’s really important that we start to say, “this is another English language”.’

Meanwhile, Rose reflected that inclusivity on screen must go beyond the brief period the Paralympics are on TV.

She added: ‘It’s not that difficult. Also not having a fear of getting things wrong. No one is being malicious, it’s just a lack of knowledge. Feeling like “oh this is not my place I’m not going to do it”. No do it! It’s okay.’

Christine (ANNE-MARIE DUFF)
There’s ‘no excuse’ to not make show’s as inclusive as possible – across the TV landscape (Picture: BBC/Warp Films/P)

The Doctor Who actor later added: ‘We have seen many times in the past, a non-disabled person playing a disabled character. That should finish now.

‘And all the people that say, “Oh, well, that’s the whole point of acting.” Okay. I don’t get to act like a hearing person. Do I ever get a cast as the hearing person? No. That’s my role.’

Ultimately, viewers should tune in for a thrilling time and get ready to be sucked into a wild world of revenge, murder and chaotic family dynamics.

As Matthew shared: ‘It’s completely different from other deaf programs you’ve seen like Coda, Sound of Metal. Those like portrait frame shots. These are really dynamic shots.

‘This is what I want audiences to see, that we’re just normal, rather than just “we have to get the sign language in the shot”. No, it’s just fast-paced. It’s moving.’

Reunion starts on BBC One on April 7.

Jeremy Kyle has revealed he ‘collapsed’ into his doctor’s arms and feared he was ‘dead’ after hearing the news of his cancer diagnosis.

The former ITV chatshow host, 59, was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, undergoing surgery just before Christmas that year to remove one of his testicles.

He’s since been open about the ‘horrific’ time hearing of his cancer diagnosis, and later said he felt ‘lucky to be alive’.

During an upcoming appearance on Kate Garraway’s Life Stories, Kyle has now recalled hearing the news, explaining he put off going to the doctors for weeks after having a ‘feeling’ that something wasn’t right.

‘I got to the hospital and I was on my own,’ he says.

‘I remember walking down this corridor and this huge bloke opened the door.

‘He was an anaesthetist, he was about 11ft tall.

‘I collapsed into his arms and started crying. I remember thinking, “I’m dead”.’

What are the symptoms of testicular cancer?

On the NHS website, the national health service outlines that usually, testicular cancer affects one testicle, but it is possible for it to affect both.

The main symptoms of testicular cancer can include:

  • A testicle becoming enlarged
  • A lump or swelling being found in the testicle
  • The scrotum feeling ‘heavy, firm or hard’
  • An ache or pain being felt in the testicle or scrotum

  • Weight loss with no explanation
  • A cough
  • The chest feeling sore or swollen
  • Experiencing difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • Pain or an ache being felt in the back or lower tummy

For more information, visit the NHS’s website here.

According to The Sun, Kyle goes on: ‘I remember waking up to this amazing nurse, who stayed with me all night and held my hand.

‘I was terrified. I thought if she went out of the door and the light went out, that was it. I thought I was dead.’

He discovered his testicle was ‘95% toxic’ after they took it out and that the cancer would have spread.

‘I was very lucky,’ Kyle tells Good Morning Britain presenter Garraway.

He later went on to have rounds of chemotherapy before being given the all clear, and returned to work on The Jeremy Kyle Show four months later.

Kyle fronted his controversial programme between 2005 and 2019, creating 3,320 episodes across 17 seasons.

It saw families reunited and torn apart over numerous scandals involving drugs tests, paternity tests and lie detectors.

It was taken off air permanently in May 2019 after the death of guest Steve Dymond, whose episode never aired.

Dymond died by suicide, and though The Jeremy Kyle Show was cleared of any connection to his death after an investigation, its reputation was tarnished.

Kyle, speaking in his first-ever TV interview which was recorded just weeks after he was exonerated in the inquest last September, elsewhere admitted to Kate: ‘I understand entirely that The Kyle Show had to fall on its sword because of that.’

Kyle did state that he accepts his show and those who worked on it had to take responsibility after the tragic nature of Dymond’s death, who failed a lie detector test while filming the show six years ago.

The test was administered to prove whether Dymond was cheating on his partner Jane, and it was later revealed that during his time on the stage, Dymond was urged to ‘be a man’ and ‘grow a pair of balls’ by Kyle, who told him he was a ‘serial liar’.

Dymond was found dead aged 63 seven days later after an overdose, and his son, Carl Woolley, has previously expressed his belief that Kyle was directly responsible for his father taking his own life.

‘Anyone watching the clips of the show can see that he was in tears and was spoken to in the most brutal way by Jeremy Kyle,’ he previously said in a statement.

‘The only good thing that came of my father’s death is the Jeremy Kyle Show is cancelled.’

Despite the tragedy and criticism he’s faced over the years for shouting at guests, Kyle elsewhere tells Garraway he’s proud of that chapter of his life.

‘It was a juggernaut,’ he said. ‘You’d look now and go, “It’s a bygone era.” We launched in 2005, just before the advent of social media, and I think that changed everything.’

‘People watched to make themselves feel better about their own lives, but the world has changed dramatically—you can’t say boo to a goose now, can you?

‘So, understandably, shows like that have gone by the by.’

He added: ‘I’m immensely proud of the 17 series, of taking it to America, and the people that we genuinely helped. 15 years is a long time.’

He did however admit the scrutiny took a toll, saying: ‘You can be the king of the castle one day, and the next day you’re not allowed in the castle grounds.’

Returning to the public eye, Kyle hailed ITV as ‘really supportive’ since his show was cancelled, having been diagnosed with anxiety in the wake of the scandal.

The dad-of-six has returned to TV screens in recent years presenting on the channel Talk since 2022.

It seems Eamonn Holmes has faced another knock due to the cancellation of his live show.

The former This Morning host, 65, was due to front his first-ever live stage event this month, alongside Paul Coyte.

Titled Things We Like!, the evening was scheduled for March 11. However, it didn’t go ahead.

It was due to mark the beginning of a nationwide tour for the pair, but it has now emerged that the run of dates has been scrapped due to poor ticket sales.

A source told The Sun: ‘Eamonn was really looking forward to the show.

‘He loves interacting with the public and meeting fans. But ticket sales just weren’t there.’

Eamonn Holmes OBE @EamonnHolmes Here?s your last minute Christmas gift with me and Paul Coyte
The broadcaster and Paul Coyte were due to head out on a tour across the country (Picture: Instagram)

They added: ‘It’s been a tough time for him personally, and this is another disappointment to deal with.’

Eamonn and fellow GB News personality Paul revealed their plans for a live podcast tour in December.

The shows were set to begin in Radlett, Hertfordshire, with tickets priced at £40 and offering a chance to meet Eamonn backstage.

Promoting the show on his Instagram, which boasts 780k followers, Eamonn wrote late last year: ‘Coming your way soon and in theatres around the Country. Maybe the perfect last minute Christmas gift’.

The comments section generated plenty of buzz—alas, not enough to generate a profit—as fans hailed Eamonn and Paul as a ‘perfect duo’.

Just last week, the Irish broadcaster returned to social media to reveal the plans had been majorly diluted.

It’s believed Eamonn, who was also offering meet and greets, struggled to sell tickets (Picture: Instagram)

‘Working with my mates @Coytey67 and Deano on our soon to be released podcast/ videocast Things we Like today [sic]’, he wrote.

‘Hoping you like the same things. Will keep you posted re launch date’, Eamonn added.

The career blow comes after further details of his divorce from Ruth Langsford emerged, not exactly painting Eamonn in the best light.

He and the Loose Women star, 65, married in 2010. In May last year, it was confirmed they were separating as Eamonn moved out of their family home.

As both TV stars move on with their lives—Ruth is embracing singlehood while Eamonn is dating relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, 43—it’s been claimed he was unfaithful during their marriage.

Sources say Eamonn, with whom Ruth shares 22-year-old son Jack, was caught on the phone with another woman while unaware his wife was inside their Surrey home.

The news comes amid reports he was unfaithful during his marriage to Ruth Langsford, which ended last year (Picture: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock)

It’s believed he continued speaking to other women behind her back as, weeks later, Ruth allegedly discovered ‘intimate’ messages on their shared laptop.

A mole described the discovery as ‘a real kick in the teeth’ for Ruth, who has supported Eamonn throughout his health and mobility struggles.

The insider reckons the ‘awful experience’ was ultimately ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back as far as the marriage was concerned.’

Reps for Eamonn Holmes have been contacted for comment.

Jason Isaacs has opened up about filming the White Lotus, comparing it to Lord of the Flies ‘in a gilded cage’.

The Harry Potter actor is currently starring as troubled Tim Ratliff in the third season of Mike White’s gripping HBO drama, leading a star-studded cast alongside Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood.

While the gang seemed to be having a blast in Thailand, with pictures of their sunny exploits filling up our Instagram timelines, the 61-year-old teased that it was very different behind the scenes.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s finale, the Lucius Malfoy icon said of the cast dynamic: ‘It was like a cross between summer camp and Lord of the Flies but in a gilded cage.

‘It wasn’t a holiday. Some people got very close, there were friendships that were made and friendships that were lost,’ he told Vulture.

‘All the things you would imagine with a group of people unanchored from their home lives on the other side of the world, in the intense pressure cooker of the working environment with eye-melting heat and insects and late nights.

Will there be more of The White Lotus after season 3?

The end of The White Lotus season 3 is coming very soon, with the final episode airing on Sudnday night in the US and in the early hours of Monday in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW.

But what is the future of the series looking like afterwards?

Fortunately, we already know that The White Lotus will be returning for a season four, the details for which are currently scarce.

It was rumoured that it was going to be filmed in Norway – however, it’s since been reported that the country will no longer be the chosen filming location, according to Norwegian news website NRK.no.

Nonetheless, it seems that somewhere else in Europe is still on the cards.

‘I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe,’ HBO programming executive Francesca Oris said, Deadline reported.

After Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand for the first three seasons, we can’t wait to find out what’s next!

‘They say in the show, “What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand,” but there’s an off-screen White Lotus as well, with fewer deaths but just as much drama.’

When asked if he wanted to share any of the drama, he laughed: ‘Absolutely not. I became very close to some people and less close to others, but we still all had that experience together and there’s a certain level of discretion required.’

Jason is currently starring as dysfunctional dad-of-three Tim, who takes his family – wife Victoria Ratliffe (Parker), sons Saxon (Patrick) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola), and daughter Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) to Thailand for a relaxing getaway.

However, his trip to the White Lotus gets off to a rocky start when he’s contacted by a journalist asking questions about his shady business endeavors.

The actor previously made headlines after his response to questions regarding one of the patriarch’s most shocking scenes from the beginning of the season – when he accidentally flashes his penis in front of his family.

The hit series was filmed in Thailand (Picture: HBO)

Jason was met with intense speculation over his use of a prosthetic penis as he bared all, and slammed the scrutiny as a ‘double standard’.

‘I’ll tell you why, because the best actress this year is Mikey Madison at the Oscars and I don’t see anyone discussing her vulva, which is on television all the time and I’m not talking about Swedish cars,’ he told Gayle King on CBS Mornings.

‘I think it’s interesting that there’s a double standard for men, but when women are naked, Margaret Qualley in The Substance, no one would dream of talking to her about her genitalia or her nipples or any of those things.

‘So, it’s odd that there’s a double standard,’ he suggested.

After facing a huge backlash over the remarks, he admitted that he ‘said the wrong words’ in a chat with Variety, conceding that he was ‘tired’ after taking on ‘so many interviews’.

‘I said the wrong words in the wrong way. I used the phrase “double standard,” which I didn’t mean at all,’ he said.

The exploits and misadventures of various guests and employees at a tropical resort over the course of one week. Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff Series 3, S3 HANDOUT.

‘There is a [different] double standard — women have been monstrously exploited and men haven’t.’

The Harry Potter actor continued: ‘I absolutely should not have mentioned those two actresses, whom I respect enormously. Mikey Madison I’m a massive fan of.

‘My point wasn’t that men have had a harder time than women — that would be absurd. Women have had a monstrous time on camera forever, and I hope to God that is changing.’

Jason emphasised that women have been ‘exploited forever in cinema’ and have been ‘made to be gratuitously naked’ in scenes, while also being asked ‘totally inappropriate questions’.

He added that he found the scrutiny of whether or not he wore a prosthetic penis in his scene in The White Lotus as ‘a bit weird and slightly obessive’.

‘I thought I could have fun batting it off, but I batted it off very poorly,’ he added.

The White Lotus is available to stream on Now in the UK and HBO in the US.

Black Mirror is back with season seven right around the corner.

New episodes of the hit Charlie Brooker sci-fi dystopian anthology arrive on Netflix on April 10, with the latest trailer teasing AI nightmares and sentient video game characters.

With new doses of tech terror on the horizon, fans have been asking themselves the most important question of all: what is the correct ranking of the episodes?

There have been 27 episodes in all in Brooker’s technological nightmare show, not including the interactive film Bandersnatch, and everybody has their favourites.

But we here at Metro needed to find out what the absolute greatest Black Mirror episode ever was, so we decided to put together our official ranking of each and every offering in the life-ruining series.

*Yes, definitive. All complaints can be filed in the comments section.

Major spoilers ahead…

27. Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too

Miley Cyrus in Black Mirror
Ashley O unfortunately failed to wow us (Picture: BBC)

We know, we know. Ashley Too is an icon, and On A Roll is a bop, but this episode officially ranks last on IMDB’s ratings of the series, so into last place it falls.

The season 5, episode 3 instalment sees Miley Cyrus appear as sickly sweet pop star Ashley O, although her existence isn’t quite as rosy as it may seem.

Her deep, dark secrets come to life as her life collides with teenager Rachel (Angourie Rice), as the youngster grieves her mother’s death while befriending an AI version of her pop idol, Ashley Too.

When the real Ashley slips into a coma, the dark truth behind Ashley Too’s consciousness and existence comes to life and leads to devastating consequences.

With the current rise of AI, this episode feels more apt than ever and maybe came out a little before its time to be loved by audiences.

However, it did give us some bizarre reimaginings of some Nine Inch Nails songs – so there’s that.

26. The Waldo Moment

The Waldo Moment
The Waldo Moment just didn’t work (Picture: Netflix)

Series 2, episode 3, offering The Waldo Moment, also came in low in our rankings.

This episode follows a failed comedian voicing a blue cartoon bear who runs for MP, only for it to end up becoming the face of a totalitarian authority in the future—a future that pops up during the end credits and makes no sense.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, half of our reporters returned this in dead last, with one saying: ‘This episode didn’t even need to be made.’

Sure, that might be harsh, but even Brooker admits he didn’t ‘nail’ this one, so we stand by our decision. Skip this ep in your Netflix binges and it doesn’t exist.

25. Joan Is Awful

Black Mirror. Annie Murphy as Joan in Black Mirror. Cr. Nick Wall/Netflix ?? 2023.
This meta offering didn’t land with everyone (Picture: Nick Wall/Netflix)

The first season 7 episode on the list is Joan Is Awful, which pokes fun at Netflix itself.

Opening the series, it focuses on Joan (Annie Murphy), an average woman who discovers her every move, no matter how incriminating or embarrassing, is being turned into a TV series starring Salma Hayek.

It’s an interesting exploration of reality and our relationship with streaming services, celebrities, and cancel culture, but its twist is somewhat predictable and self-referential gags bordering on cringe-inducing.

24. Beyond The Sea

Black Mirror. Josh Hartnett as David in Black Mirror. Cr. Nick Wall/Netflix ?? 2023.
This star-studded Black Mirror episode struck a chord with viewers (Picture: Nick Wall/Netflix)

Despite really pulling at our heartstrings, Beyond The Sea is pretty forgettable when you consider the other space exploration-inspired episode (more on that later).

Taking bizarre inspiration from the Manson Family, Brooker’s sixth series episode is set in a retrofuturistic 1969 and follows astronauts Cliff (Aaron Paul) and David (Josh Hartnett).

They can transfer their consciousnesses to replicas of their bodies on Earth when not needed on the ship, but when a terrible tragedy occurs back home, the astronauts are forced to grapple with grief, obsession, and betrayal.

23. Metalhead

Metalhead wowed with its dramatic visuals (Picture: Netflix)

This offering from the fourth series is undoubtedly beautiful due to its black-and-white cinematography, but the story falls short.

The post-apocalyptic plot centres on Bella, who attempts to outrun robotic guards known as ‘dogs’ that send trackers piercing through their targets’ skin.

While we all love Maxine Peake, this episode was a bit underwhelming—there was no real character development, and its lack of backstory or creepy lesson made it feel… well, not very Black Mirror.

22. Demon 79

About Black Mirror S6: Expect the unexpected. The long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker?s dark, satirical anthology series which reinvents itself with each new episode. The sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet.
What would you do in this situation? (Picture: Nick Wall/Netflix)

Demon 79 is unique in the Black Mirror universe in that it’s the first that doesn’t deal with a technological horror, and instead delves into the supernatural.

While maybe not perfect for the average Black Mirror viewer, it’s certainly an interesting direction for the series to travel in, and its exploration of societal pressures and racism is as horrifying as any other episode.

The season 6 instalment follows sales assistant Nida (Anjana Vasan), who accidentally unleashes the demon Gaap (Paapa Essiedu) and must kill three people in three days to prevent the apocalypse.

21. Striking Vipers

Season 5’s first episode, Striking Vipers, failed to make an impact on us here at Metro.

The 2019 offering follows two estranged college friends who reunite in later life over a virtual reality game, triggering a series of events that change the course of their lives.

It’s an episode that very much felt like a scaled-back version of another iconic Black Mirror plot that addresses queer relationships in a virtual field—we will, of course, get to that soon—but it did raise interesting questions about infidelity and online relationships in a modern environment that helped elevate it ever so slightly.

20. Loch Henry

Our obsession with true crime is put under the microscope (Picture: Netflix/Everett/REX/Shutterstock)

One for the true crime fans, Loch Henry kicks off our top 20 after captivating viewers as it explores our obsession with true crime in uncomfortable detail.

The season 6 episode focuses on Davis (Samuel Blenkin) and Pia (Myha’la Herrold) as they make a true crime documentary in Davis’s run-down hometown in Scotland.

They explore the story of Iain Adair (Tom Crowhurst), a convicted serial killer from the town who killed Davis’s father, Kenneth (Gregor Firth), during his arrest, but as the duo digs deeper, they uncover some horrifying home truths.

19. Mazey Day

Black Mirror dabbled with traditional horror in Mazey Day (Credits: Netflix/Everett/REX/Shutterstock)

Following in the footsteps of From Dusk Till Dawn, Mazey Day switches genres so violently that it completely threw a lot of viewers, in a good way, of course.

It tells the story of Mazey Day (Clara Rugaard), an actress hiding from the media after a car accident.

Paparazzi Bo (Zazie Beetz) invades Mazey’s privacy to capture much-sought-after shots of the actor, but soon gets more than he bargained for when he discovers there’s more to Mazey than it seems.

18. Smithereens

Andrew Scott - Black Mirror's Smithereens
Andrew Scott plays relatably unhinged better than anyone on telly (Picture: Netflix)

Completing the season 5 rankings, episode 2, Smithereens, comes in 18th place in our round-up.

The story follows an hours-long standoff between the police and a kidnapper, played expertly by Andrew Scott, who doesn’t want money or to harm his victim.

It’s a nail-biting episode that will have you questioning what our mystery rideshare driver’s intentions really are, though the final payoff isn’t quite as dramatic as one might expect.

17. Playtest

A divisive one, this. Some people from the office ranked it dead bottom, while others placed it surprisingly high.

But all can agree that the ending is a bit too confusing to give it a high score in the end.

The story, about an immersive video game that shows players their most terrifying fears, is a strong plot, but the character actually dying four seconds into the playtest and the whole episode being in his head was a bit too ‘Dallas, it was all a dream’ for us.

16. Men Against Fire

This series 3 episode was gritty and visceral—it basically had all of the makings to hit the top 10.

But the big plot twist—that the monster-like ‘roaches’ are actually normal humans, and Stripe’s implant made him see them as zombies—was just a bit too expected.

Next!

15. Crocodile

Crocodile Black Mirror
Crocodile wasn’t as well received as some of Black Mirror’s earlier dark offerings (Picture: Netflix)

Now, some of us actually really liked Crocodile, but it was overwhelmingly voted down.

The story of a machine that can recall people’s memories, Crocodile was one of the bloodiest and most uncomfortable episodes to date, somewhat like a less successful Shut Up And Dance.

Perhaps the final twist—that the guinea pig that witnessed the child’s murder could have its memories read, thus catching out killer Mia—was just a bit too ridiculous for some tastes.

14. Arkangel

Arkangel had some questionable plot choices that bumped down its ranking (Picture: Netflix)

This Jodie Foster-directed episode was a cool indie departure from Black Mirror’s usual style, but the open ending wasn’t very satisfying.

Then there was the fact that the mum watching her daughter have sex was deeply cringeworthy (and expected—what did she think was going to happen by watching it?), and the glaring error that suggested using emergency contraception could abort a baby.

Must do better.

13. 15 Million Merits

Does this look sort of familiar? (Picture: Netflix)

Much of our office had to be reminded of episode 2 of series 1, and while nobody disliked it per se, nobody was screaming from the rooftops about their love for it.

The twist on talent shows has been done so much before that the suggestion of exploitation isn’t all that new.

But it’s visually gorgeous and gave us Irma Thomas’s Anyone Who Knows What Love Is song that goes through the entire Black Mirror universe, so not a total loss.

12. Nosedive

Nosedive is pretty great. But its middling ranking is because many of us tune into Black Mirror for utter devastation, and this was just too fun.

Bryce Dallas Howard as a reputation-obsessed wannabe social media queen was wickedly funny, and the app on which you rate people like Uber in the episode is probably the most likely to exist out of all the Black Mirror inventions.

But did we leave the episode emotionally scarred? No, and that is not good enough. Soz, Bryce.

11. Black Museum

Rolo Haynes and Nish in Black Museum
Rolo Haynes’ motives are soon uncovered (Picture: Netflix)

The final episode of series 4, Black Museum, seems like a bit of a farewell to Black Mirror, which would be a very sad thing.

But this ode to the series is clever, dark, and manages to pack a whole lot into an hour.

It’s not the strongest compendium episode, though, so it loses marks.

10. USS Callister

Black Mirror soars into space in USS Callister (Picture: Netflix)

Into the top 10 we go.

Props to Black Mirror for managing to get us thinking this was an episode actually set in space.

The concept of USS Callister is clever, the visuals are great, and anything with Michaela Coel in it gets a thumbs up from us.

Its slightly ambiguous ending leaves us wanting more, though.

9. White Christmas

Black Mirror White Christmas
Who wouldn’t like a Christmas special with Jon Hamm? (Picture: Zeppotron/Channel 4)

The better of the two compendiums, in Metro‘s humble opinion.

With all the Christmas cheer of an EastEnders festive special, White Christmas manages to entertain and also horrify, particularly with the idea that people could be made to experience five minutes as 30 years as a form of punishment.

Plus, Jon Hamm. Who could want more?

8. Be Right Back

Starring Domhnall Gleeson before he really made it big, Be Right Back is probably the saddest of Black Mirror’s offerings.

While technology is at the heart of it, with Domhnall’s character being brought back to his girlfriend via a weird replica after his death, Be Right Back deals with loss and love sensitively, and even without the dystopian aspect, it would still tug at the heartstrings.

7. Hated In The Nation

This proved to be another divisive episode (Picture: Laurie Sparham/Netflix)

Another crowd-splitter, this. Hated In The Nation received a lot of high ratings, but also very low ones, completely skewing its place. Sorry about that.

There’s a lot to love about it—notably, the parable on why you shouldn’t tell somebody to die on X, lest you be murdered by a hijacked bee, may be slightly overblown.

But Kelly Macdonald and Faye Marsay are excellent, and there are so many twists and turns that it feels almost cinematic.

6. Hang The DJ

Hang The DJ date
Black Mirror nailed the dating scene online in this episode (Picture: Netflix)

Some criminally low ratings have given Hang The DJ an unfairly low ranking, for which I can only apologise.

The most successful episode of season 4 by far, this look at love on dating apps may concern a computer simulation, but is one of the most relatable Black Mirrors there is.

Anyone who has used dating apps like Tinder, OK Cupid or Bumble will see a bit of themselves in Frank (Joe Cole) and Amy’s (Georgina Campbell) attempt to find love. And the sweet payoff at the end of the episode is definitely bound to warm your cockles.

5. Shut Up And Dance

Shut Up And Dance
Shut Up And Dance is probably the most grim of Black Mirror’s tales (Picture: Netflix/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock

Shut Up And Dance is almost a painful watch as it’s so bleak, but that’s why we love it so much.

The uber-grim episode sees teenager Kenny being blackmailed after being watched masturbating through his laptop camera.

That is tense enough, but the ending, where we discover that Kenny’s (Alex Lawther) crime was not what we thought, is a punch in the gut.

Black Mirror’s stomach-churning horror at its best.

4. The National Anthem

This is the episode that kicked off our obsession with the show (Picture: Netflix)

The episode that started it all, and that had us all thinking Brooker was a legit mind reader.

In The National Anthem, Rory Kinnear plays the Prime Minister, who has been threatened by a blackmailer that he will murder the princess if he doesn’t have sex with a pig on live television.

The plot seems ludicrous—and it is—but it’s actually a rather grim look at the humiliation we will watch on television and how oblivious we are to things happening around us.

This one was made infamous, though, when allegations regarding David Cameron and a pig’s head circulated. Brooker maintains he did not know about it.

3. The Entire History Of You

The Entire History Of You saw life replayed like a dull reality show. (Picture: Channel 4)

This episode was so popular that the idea was snapped up by Robert Downey Jr for a big-screen adaptation, which still, unfortunately, hasn’t made it past the initial planning stages.

The story teams a device which allows you to re-watch your memories (which, let’s face it, will probably become a thing) with real human emotions of jealousy and obsession, resulting in a classic tale of infidelity and betrayal.

Plus, it has former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker in it—always a bonus.

2. White Bear

Lenora Crichlow in White Bear (Picture: Channel 4)
White Bear’s twist captivated many a Black Mirror watcher (Picture: Channel 4)

Our runner-up is White Bear, the episode which reflects the worst of our society, because let’s face it, we’d all do the same as the bystanders.

The episode sees a woman (Lenora Crichlow) being chased and terrorised through a forest until we eventually discover that she’s being forced to forget who she is, a child killer, every day and relive torture and misery over and over again.

It’s a chilling twist that takes you by surprise and leaves you reflecting on how we react to villains.

The episode is so beloved that Victoria Skillane pops up across the universe in other instalments.

1. San Junipero

San Junipero
San Junipero is as close to perfection as Black Mirror can get (Picture: Netflix)

Well, what else could it be, really?

San Junipero, from season 3, won an Emmy for Charlie Brooker and has received the highest critical acclaim of any Black Mirror episode—and now, it’s the Metro number one, which is obviously the best accolade.

The love story between Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Yorkie (Mackenzie Davis)–two women who, we discover, have had their souls uploaded to a sort of alternate reality as a precursor to death–is one of the best representations of queer romance on television in years, and doesn’t use their sexuality as a gimmick.

And when you find out that Yorkie is living her true self while in a hospital bed with locked-in syndrome, we defy any of you not to cry.

Throw in one of the best soundtracks ever–Heaven Is A Place On Earth will never sound the same again–and you have a masterpiece.

Take a bow, Brooker.

And last but not least, an honourable mention…

Netflix
Bandersnatch put Black Mirror in the hands of the viewer (Picture: Netflix)

If we’re talking about Black Mirror, we can’t leave out the hit 2018 interactive film Bandersnatch which put audiences in the centre of their own episode.

The spin-off film allowed Netflix users to decide the actions of the film’s protagonist, programmer Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead), as the narrative unfolds, creating a completely unique experience with each click.

The nature of its interactivity was not confirmed ahead of its release, making Bandersnatch quite the spectacle when it finally dropped on the streaming giant.

What’s more, it featured an engaging, though at times fairly confusing, storyline that played out just like the game it centred around, fully immersing viewers in the world of Black Mirror without any terrifying real-world consequences.

All six series of Black Mirror are available to stream on Netflix. Season 7 lands on the streaming service on April 10.

Being a WWE superstar isn’t for everyone.

From crashing through tables to constant travel, life as a wrestler can be tough, but Grayson Waller has insisted there is a much more basic reason most people ‘quit’ wrestling training early on.

Speaking alongside his tag partner Austin Theory before Monday Night Raw at The O2 arena tonight, the Aussie Icon exclusively told Metro: ‘As much as we do all the wild things, I don’t think a lot of people realise that the very simple things we do hurt too.

‘But we’re just calloused and stupid!’

Grayson has been helping with WWE tryouts, and he’s seen college athletes in the US and beyond struggle to get used to hitting the ropes or falling in the ring.

‘We have big time college athletes quitting because it hurts too much,’ he revealed.

Grayson Waller and Austin Theory weighed in on the tough reality of a WWE superstar (Picture: WWE/Getty Images)

‘We’ve gone through tables with broken bones, but like for these tryouts, the time that people quit the most.

‘The first is when they run the ropes, because people don’t realise running the ropes hurts. And then the second is when they take their first flat back bump on the ring.’

Austin added: ‘My favourite is seeing people land in the ring for the first time, because they all have this illusion in their mind that it’s soft and it’s bouncy and it’s like a trampoline.

‘And it’s the best when they land and they’re like, “Oh, wow!”‘

Meanwhile, Austin also recalled his fear over being thrown from the top of the Elimination Chamber to the ground below.

‘The Chamber moment was, maybe one of the biggest stunts that I’ve done in WWE,’ he said.

‘And honestly, going through knowing I was going to do that the night before, having to sleep on that, I was like, “Oh man, hopefully I don’t break my legs.” ‘

Despite the grind and tough times, both men love what they do, and remain determined.

Outspoken star Grayson, who appeared on Australian Survivor in 2019 before joining WWE two years later, admitted despite receiving more reality TV offers, he’s focused on his in-ring future.

‘There’s definitely opportunities there, I’ve had people reach out to me,’ he said.

He teased: ‘Maybe down the line, when my body breaks down or something like that, there’ll be opportunities to go run through reality shows and beat all these stupid Americans and these type of things.

‘But for me, right now, like I want to be in the WWE. I want to be at the top, and that’s where my focus is.’

Grayson is open to more reality TV once his WWE career is done (Picture: WWE)

Now, Grayson and Austin are focused on WrestleMania, and doing everything they can to raise their own stock.

‘We always have a bunch of ideas, but we’re also two guys that know exactly how to do our job,’ Austin said. ‘We just make it the best that we can. Whether it’s in our favour or it’s not, we just do the best we can.’

With the huge event in Las Vegas just a fortnight away, A-Town Down Under are trying to find their spot on one of WWE’s most stacked shows in years.

‘It’s hard to fit into the WrestleMania landscape. I think, right now, this is the best roster WWE’s ever had, hands down. I don’t think it’s even close,’Grayson added.

‘So, you know, when you have so many big people, it’s hard to slot your way in, but we’re doing our best.’

WWE brings WrestleMania to Las Vegas on April 19 and 20. Tune in live on Netflix.

Adolescence fans aren’t convinced it should be shown in schools (Picture: Netflix/ AP/ Reuters)

Many people have said the decision to show Adolescence in schools is ‘pointless’.

This week it was announced the four-part drama, which stars Stephen Graham as a father who faces the shocking news his teenage son has been accused of murdering a female classmate, would be made available for free in all British schools.

Since being released last month the Netflix series has already been called ‘the best TV show of the year’ and has become the biggest streaming show in the UK in a single week, with 6.45 million people watching the first episode within a week.

The series deals with incel culture, social media addiction, the difficulty of parenting in the 2020s, and bullying among school pupils, as well as school funding and police resourcing, across four hour-long episodes.

However, while many have praised the series, they don’t think it needs to be played in the classroom.

‘The message is important, but I think it’s more important for parents to see this. The message will be lost on a teenager,’ user myawesomeafro posted on Reddit.

Adolescence
It was announced earlier this week the Netflix series would be made available to watch for free in classrooms (Picture: Netflix)

‘I always thought the intended target for the message was for non tech savvy parents, not for children,’ Richie217 shared.

‘Yeah I don’t really see what kids are going to get out of this. This is a wakeup call to those guiding kids into adulthood,’ belizeanheat added.

‘It’s a great show but is it really something the kids need to see? Seems like the show’s message is intended for parents who can ignore the signs of their kids becoming radicalised. Don’t really see the point of showing this to kids, tbh,’ someone else explained.

However, others said they believed it could be a valuable teaching tool.

‘Watching challenging films in high school and discussing them afterwards were very memorable, and definitely informed my perspective on the world,’ tannhauser0 posted.

Many think those who need to be tuning in are parents (Picture: Netflix)

‘Often parents aren’t willing to have serious talks with their kids, and neither are teachers. You’d be surprised how important it is for kids to have exposure to some of the harsh realities of life and discussing them after the fact. Leaving them alone to wander the depths of the void (the internet) can be incredibly corrosive.’

Another shared: ‘Movies and shows like Adolescence aren’t a substitute for teaching but rather foster discussion and analysis.’
